Re: Taking the plunge

Morning everyone 🙂

I slept in. Like a full on, real sleep in! I worked on and off all day yesterday between juggling kids, appointments (from home - I had our first telehealth appt yesterday) and messages from parents. It was big and full on but felt good to do. I felt connected with my gig place and like I was doing something to contribute. I even went to the supermarket (and failed at getting much of anything we needed, and shook and felt sick with anxiety, but I did it). Try again another time maybe.

Things turned very wonky for Mr Friend last night. He had his first big brain bang since we met, sending what was effectively "the world is better off without me" messages. It was really concerning and scary. I'm not surprised it happened and was aware this could happen being we met where we did when we did, but it was tough. I sat with him through it on the phone until late last night then crashed in bed myself. I felt my heart pleading with him to hold on, knowing how intense it feels but knowing it can pass if you let it. I felt my professional hat racing through a checklist of things I should be asking and going through with him, and my lived experience mind racing through what it has felt like for me when I've been through it. I felt like any wrong move had potentially huge repercussions. We got through it and will take it tiny bit by tiny bit for now.

That was yesterday. Today I am working on a job application and resume. I suck at this big time. The self-doubt and the "not good enough" is creeping in. The excuses and reasons I should let it go and not even think about it, are thumping down. It's going to take me a gazillion hours to do and it shouldn't be this hard. I want to do it though, so, so, sooooo badly so I will push on.

@Maggie I missed you again this morning. Counsellor day today? Have you had any colour (paint, yarn, tiles etc) in your day? Wish I could come and bring you a coffee, some bread and loo roll and see your dots in person ❤️

@TheVorticon I wonder how people survive without coffee! Sorry it has been a stressful weeek for you. Is your work impacted by a certain global issue? Hope it's a calmer day today.

@Former-Member, @eth and all - thinking of you, hoping things are OK enough. Bonkers world right now 😕

Re: Taking the plunge

Dearest @CheerBear I feel for you so strongly about what went down with Mr Friend last night. I can really relate to the 'two hats' analogy. You really don't deserve any extra pressure atm and I know how alarming it must have been. I really hope things settle down today.

Well done with working from home in the midst of all else you are managing so well.

Do you have a concession card? I posted yesterday on A long rave about woollies online form to apply for access to home delivery to continue. Maybe you are eligible. I was more anxious about shopping the day I went than I was even about my driving lesson.

Just last weekend my peer support mentor and I completed my resume so maybe I can help you with that a bit. I totally know the feelings you describe about doing it. I just hit a wall every time I tried to do it by myself. Just finding a template that worked for me took us nearly 2 hours. But that's where I suggest you start. There are many different templates available through a google search. Some are free and some not. I settled on one that cost less than $10.

So ... Large font name on left and smaller contact details to the right at the top. Then mine has a left column about 1/4 of the page wide that has education, skills, technical and volunteer categories with a few details under each - summarise everything you can. Then in the rest of the space on the right it has goals, work experience (dot points for massage therapy, disability support, ethnobotany small business and secretarial - medical and legal) with a brief description of where and what was involved. Then referees (2) at the bottom.

You can also find templates for cover letters online.

Really hope this is helpful to you.

Take care with all that you are juggling - I take my hat off to you. Lots of love xoxo

Re: Taking the plunge

Hi @CheerBear ... a real sleep in sounds like luxury. Although taking into account all that you were dealing with last night around Mr Friend, its little wonder you crashed in the end. I really hope everything is okay there now? As for your professional hat kicking in ... thats a great thing. I expect when its so close to home and very personal .. its not easy for training to kick in, rather than panic and fear set in. So it should come as a relief to you, that your instincts are all there under such circumstances. With all that in mind ... go forward with confidence with your job aps ... you are ready and you are good enough. Definitely push on ... no matter how long it takes to get there with these applications and resumes. This is something you want, and even something I think you need ... for your confidence and ongoing wellbeing and sense of achievement.

Great advice there @eth ... as always. Waves and a hug to you @Maggie . Hi @TheVorticon @Shaz51

Sherry 💕

Re: Taking the plunge

Thanks heaps @eth ❤ I have a pension card so I'll use it if I really need. I went to the supermarket at 7:45 yesterday, not wanting to take advantage of having it but needing to not get flooded as I so easily do. There was next to nothing there and the panic and frustration of everyone massively escalated my anxiety. If I need to I'll work it out but for now it's an adventure of "what can we make with staples", feeling lucky we have staples.

Thanks also for your support with the resume. I will definitely keep it all in mind. I think my block is mental and emotional more than anything. It's triggering and destabilising just trying and thinking about it. Trying not to fall into that pit though. I'm super lucky to be part of such an understanding workplace and this is for a position there so it feels safe enough 🙂

I'm getting a real sense of calm and collected from you. It's noticed and appreciated, thank you ❤

@Former-Member thanks also, lots ❤ I smiled at "you are ready and you are good enough". It helps with the opposite thoughts. I feel as ready as I have for a long time even though banana brain is trying to convince me otherwise.

Mr Friend has been in touch this morning so there's relief there. He's feeling isolated (as many of us are or are about to start). Maybe some together time, which we haven't had this week, will help a bit.

One more share, before I head out and get moving with this resume - my degree arrived in the post an hour ago 😁 Graduation was a couple of days ago (I didn't go) so I was hoping to see it in a few weeks. I was surprised to see it so soon.

In my hands right now is a shiny, sparkly certificate and transcript that, until a month or so ago, I didn't expect I would have and until I was holding it, didn't think I'd ever see. It means so much 😁👩‍🎓 Best timing (for a change) too 🌈

Re: Taking the plunge

Thank you lots @Snowie ❤

Hearing you with anxiety. The shop situation is more than an inconvenience for many. Anxiety thinking about schools closing as well as schools still being open, which I'm thinking maybe you might be feeling a bit of too (or maybe not). My kids have been home since Tuesday. Right now two of them (the love/hate duo) are getting along by looking in to online pet shopping. Yeah nah 😳😆

Big ❤

Re: Taking the plunge

@CheerBear Oh gosh, what a day yesterday was. So sorry Mr friend is struggling so hard. That really is tough for you both. I really don’t know what to say. So many thoughts racing in my head, none coming out sensibly unfortunately. But lots of these for you. 💜💚💙❤️💛💛💛💛

Wow to the certificate. 😊😊😊 well done. 👍👍👍 I hope you have a designated place on your wall.

I really don’t know how anyone manages shopping. It’s scary. I haven’t moved far from home I admit. I hope you can get the basics at least.

All the best with the resume. 💚💚💛💛

I have been painting, so some colour at times. I wish we could dot/crochet/coffee together. Virtual has to do. ❤️❤️

@TheVorticon I hope you manage to stay awake behind your desk today. I would recommend a coffee. I can only imagine how busy it is at this time for everyone in different situations. ☕️☕️☕️💜💜💜

@eth @Former-Member 👋👋💜💜💜

Re: Taking the plunge

My kids are still at school for now @CheerBear The school is taking it one day at a time. The have cancelled camps, excusions, parent-teacher interviews, assemblies, etc.

Only one week left and they are on school holidays anyway. They are happy enough to go to school.

Good luck with little ones at home, trying in the best of times!
