Re: Taking the plunge

@Zoe7, America was never on my list either.. ex girlfriend was American and she wanted to go home for a while. Canada is really amazing and nice. The lakes and mountains there are so beuaitful. It's one of those places where pictures really don't do it justice. The glacial water that runs into the lakes is so blue/green its something else. The people are really nice too. It's very different to the USA.

I have to head home now, it's been a real treat to chat with you today 🙂 Have a good afternoon and take care. I might peak in for a little while later on. 🙂

Re: Taking the plunge

Hi all ....

Loved reading about @Gazza75 @Zoe7 travels this afternoon. I envy you both. I would love to travel Europe, but have never got there. My Mums family are originally from Ireland and my Dads family from Kent, England.

I have travelled several African countries, including South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, which I loved. Spent a week in Mauritius and Reunion on my way home. Also spent time in a number of Asian countries, eg Philippines, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, etc.

Like you two, I never had any particular desire to visit USA. But my hubby had to travel there for work at the time, and I went with him on one of his business trips. Surprisingly I loved New York. Didnt think too much of LA, although entertained myself at Disneyland while hubby was busy doing business things. Toured a few of the Southern states by car while there too, including Memphis. Hubby is a big Elvis fan so of course we did the Graceland thing. Had a few days in Hawaii big island on our way home. Never got to Canada, which I would have liked to have done. But sadly hubby has no interest in Canada.

@Shaz51 Only two jobs today? That sounds pretty light duties compared to usual. I'm glad. So all your tests are done, now you just have to wait for results. Fingers crossed the results are good. Went with hubby to his oncologist review today. Big relief that the scans show no further spread of the melanoma at this stage, and her remains in remission. Although some of his blood tests need to be followed up on. Creatinine (kidney related test) levels arent too good, so a repeat blood test for that is needed next week. The oncologist wants to see him again in 3 months time for continued monitoring. I had hoped it may be pushed out to 6-monthly given the good scan result, but it wasnt to be. As he said, things can change very rapidly and he wants to monitor things closely.

@Former-Member ... I'm sorry you have your Ds dad there with you. I didnt realise that. Is this a permanent thing, or just temporary? Clearly its not an ideal situation for you, with him being so judgemental etc. Mumi, please dont clam up! I think its important that you vent and talk about your feelings here. The reason I say that is because you have been quiet since mid afternoon after you said that you "should keep quiet". I disagree, and I hope you will come back on again soon.

@Maggie .. Really sorry to hear that you continue to await news about new accommodation arrangements. Its been so long already! And thats not great timing with your lovely counsellor expected to be away for 5 whole weeks. Has anybody been appointed to cover for her in her absense I wonder? Thats a very long time, and I know how much you depend on her at times. My kindest thoughts are with you, and truly hope something happens soon. Its so wrong that you've had to wait so long, and keep getting the runaround.

@Zoe7 ... Sounds like your cold has set in and laid you low. Glad to hear that you made an early decision not to go into work tomorrow. Hopefully you can now settle in and take things easy, knowing you have time to prepare for classes next week without having to push yourself while you feel so unwell. Colds tend to linger, and make you feel very miserable for several days I find.

@Gazza75 ... a farm boy aye? I grew up on a farm and spent most of my life on farms too. Mostly fine wool merino's but also a bit of wheat and cropping. Then some mixed farming, where we added some beef cattle as well. But my family have always been fine wool producers primarily. Farming's a tough life for the most part, given weather conditions dictate what happens, and wool prices and lamb prices etc. But its definitely a lifestyle I always liked.

Hello to others here too that I missed individually above @outlander @Faith-and-Hope @CheerBear etc.

Sherry

Re: Taking the plunge

@Gazza75 ... just responding to your post to me this morning.

You're right about living solo not being a very good option for my Dad. But he is back in town as of this morning, after spending a couple of nights at my brothers farm. Being on the farm is not ideal either you see, as its about 45mins out of town. At least he has Aged Care coming in every day with meals and to check on him. Plus someone once a week to help him with a shower, bed change, cleaning, etc.

Yes hubbys results were in the most part good. Scans showed no evidence of more cancer, so thats the main thing anyway. Though the blood tests showed a problem with his kidney function, and he needs further tests for that next week. He only has one kidney after having kidney cancer which required that a kidney be removed some 8 or 9 years ago. So its important he takes good care of his remaining kidney, which is already on a go slow regime. He has chronic kidney disease in that remaining kidney.

I did mention to hubby last night when he kept insisting on talking about the triggering stuff (rape etc) that I didnt want to talk about it. But he seems to see that as a red flag and becomes even more intent on talking about it. Sometimes I just walk out when he does that, and burst into a bundle of tears in private. But other times I try to stay as calm as possible and try to help him understand. Thing is, I dont think he really can, or ever will. I dont think he's being deliberately cruel, though sometimes it feels that way. But you're right ... I would prefer not to talk (or even think) about it ... ever! This paragraph is in response to your post to me this morning too @Former-Member sorry it took a while to get back to you on this.

Sherry 💕
