Re: Taking the plunge

Oh dear @Former-Member ... I hear you ... only too well. Where you resort to the ouzo bottle, for me its the scotch bottle. And yes I give myself a really hard time about it too. But you know what ... we should not beat ourselves up about it. Over time we can try to provide ourselves with a more constructive 'crutch' to keep ourselves afloat when times are unbearably tough. But this takes time, immense strength and self patience. Its easier to resort to the quick fix, which at the end of the day, only makes matters worse. But I hear you and I understand you. As I said, I have resorted to the bottle lately too. Not good, for either of us.

Now ... as far as your daughter knowing things are not right. She sounds like a very knowing young lady, and good for her. Why dont you tell her the truth? I'm sure she can cope with the truth of the matter. She has shown enormous strength for some time now when it comes to her own health issues. You have brought her up to be strong and caring. Allow her to be what you raised her to be. Let her be there for you, and not just a one sided relationship. I'm sure she knows how hard its been for you with regards to your Mum in the nursing home. She will understand what you are going through, she will have empathy and understanding for you in this situation. I'm sorry ... I dont know how much of your other history your daughter knows, but if she is mature enough, perhaps it could be helpful for both of you, for her to know now? Not something you should decide right now, but certainly something to consider for the near future perhaps?

Meanwhile I am right here with you, offering my hand of friendship and a shoulder to cry on. We have a bit in common, you and I. Not the least, the loss of our Mum. Me in a literal sense, you in that she is no longer the Mum you know. Still a loss, which is jolly hard to accept.
