Re: Taking the plunge

Hi @Maggie

How are you going today? It can be hell what we go through. When the intensity grows and things become tough I like to loose myself for awhile - and go into another world away from the way I am feeling. I still know the reality, but like to escape for awhile to another better place in my mind. Whether that is engrossed in a book that immerses my attention (not a boring one where my mind can wonder), or a good movie, or in nature etc. Whatever takes my whole concentration without pressure. I even talk (when alone lol) to deceased loved ones or God out loud - that may seem strange to some, which I can understand lol, but it seems to relieve some of the tension for me and doing the above I forget how I am feeling for a bit. It gives some reprieve until I pick up again.

Then I may think of making and write down small easy goals for the near future, as I know I can't do it at that time. And then when I pick up I do them. Doing this when feeling really depressed helps me to refocus a bit more on something a bit better in the future. It renews hope. For example writing down something simple for yourself like I will laugh with my social worker at the mobile Christmas party and enjoy it, or something that appeals to you that you would like to do but can't just now. And you may be surprised that you may just achieve it.

Just another thought, but have you ever asked your social worker about the possibly of organising some short get togethers with other patients she may see that she thinks would be suitable for you to share with a little over coffee? In a place you feel comfortable in that won't invoke anxiety attacks? Just for a few hours or whatever you are comfortable with. I not sure if this is even possible, just a thought that popped into my head. I am the type of person that I will give anything a go as I think what have I to lose, but it has to be something i am reasonably comfortable with. Sometimes I have to push a little out of my comfort zone, but not too much at first.

I hope you don't mind me suggesting the above, I have been thinking of you a lot and know what it is like to suffer the way you are presently. It may not help you personally (I am hoping it will though) but I have to try because I care. That's me.

I visited my friends today - my male friend with the cancer is struggling to breathe and his wife is terrified of losing him. They are doing it tough presently. He goes to the specialist to discuss chemotherapy treatment as the cancer itself is too far advanced and inoperable. I am being there for them the best I can and letting them know I am there for them to help if they should need me at any time. It's all I can do. I so feel for them 😢💗

Re: Taking the plunge

Hi @Former-Member
when my daughter was scheduled in the local psychiatric centre here last year the nurse told me that most who go through those doors where sexually assaulted. Not good. And that a lot did not have any visitors as family etc gave up on them. I was shocked. It's so sad isn't it? It would be so nice if we could all sit down together over coffee as we so get each other. Hope your weekend was okay xx

Re: Taking the plunge

Hi @utopia
Young love is very cute lol. Already the love interest is costing your son haha. He does not know nothing yet! I had my first boyfriend at fifteen, married at eighteen. For me it was way too young but no one can tell that to young love.

I think you would really enjoy the novel. It takes a bit to get into the story as it's different, but is worth the perseverance I believe. I am enjoying it. You are wise, people are apathetic when it comes to making wrongs right, or feel powerless to do so. If all did something it would make change as people power has punch - but most are oblivious to what is going on until it really starts effecting them. And then it can be too late. And most will believe the brainwashing as they don't research the facts.

I think there was a book written to fix this problem but most ignored it. Power, money and self interest brings a lot of people down, corrupts them. Many can go into politics with good intentions but for them to stay on this straight and narrow path they have to retain strong ideals of serving the higher good and society as a whole by hanging onto their values when faced with the greatest of pressure and temptations of self interest and power. Most fall.

It really takes strong individuals such as Martin Luther King, J. Kennedy, Ghandi, Mandela and the like to see it through to the end. We need more great leaders like them, now more than ever, to make change. And they have to prepare to be matrys. All us ordinary people can do is to try and right the wrongs in our own lives helping others whom are adversely effected by such corruption as much as we can. The numbers of poor and disadvantaged will rise unfortunately.

Let me know if you are able to obtain the novel 1984 at the library and what you think of it when reading it, I would be really interested to hear what you think. Have a relaxing evening my friend xx

Sending a warm hello to @Former-Member, I hope you are doing okay. Thinking of you x

Re: Taking the plunge

Hi @Former-Member 💕
That doesn't surprise me at all re most patients at psychiatric hospital are sexually abused.
It is very sad and so very common.
I often used to meet women/girls that would confide in me re their abuse/assaults/traumas.
I am very open and honest with people and they end up telling me some traumatic stories about their lives.
It is way too common.
No wonder people are so messed up.

I can imagine friends family giving up on victims. Sad for them.

Personally I gave up on friends and family, mainly because it became too hurtful re their lack of understanding and constant expectations of me, which I tried to live up to and ended up having a breakdown.

Yes, it would be lovely to get together for a cuppa. 😊☕🍵

Home day again. Same old.................
There's hope for tomorrow though 😊

Re: Taking the plunge

@Former-Member. Ahhh young love. I'm dreading his first heart ache. But it will come, just as everything will.
I got on line and bought the book. It will be here by Friday. I really look forward to reading it.
Would love to know the book that gave the answers on how to get out of this pickel.
Will just have to work it out ourselves.
To new Heroes

Re: Taking the plunge

@Former-Member. Was a good day. Yesterday the lawnmower died again. Repair man coming on Monday.
Today went to mums and did her feet. Special cream. They are split and sore. Went to best friends house and she waxed my eyebrow (now I have 2). Lol.
That's it for today.
How did your day go?

Re: Taking the plunge

@Former-Member I like your suggestions, I will have to come up a little before reading, but as for talking out loud to no one in particular, good at that lol. I can listen to music, nice and loud. Blocks some thoughts, and watering the garden. I don't think it's Christmas as this is my 17 th alone. Honestly I have no idea. The mobile party will be fun in a way. My counsellor brings a box of decorations, a beer for the lads, chocolate frog and snakes for some of the littlies, chips and shortbread for older girls and a healthy drink. Lol. She has tried to think of someone I could relate with from other clients, unfortunately, no matches for me, I'm way out there in the real world, odd as odd, stick out like a sore toe, and trying to get a word out near impossible. Come across as brain dead, so clumsy emotionally.

Really sorry to hear about your friend and his wife, so hard to face situations like this. Life really is hard.

I agree most psych words a full of sexually abused men and women, but it doesn't seem to be helping. It didn't help me anyway, made things worse if anything.

@Former-Memberdid you manage any sleep.

@Former-Membertotally understand, I'm not here much at all lately.
