Re: Taking the plunge
When I was young (many moons ago) - one of us girls would not drink and would keep an eye on the others. No giving someone our ph nbr - she would take their nbr instead. Nothing more than kissing allowed. And she'd make sure we all got home safe. It was a good system. It worked for us.
My son has only been dating her for a few weeks, but has known here for years and she's been part of his social group all year.
She is pretty, not a girly girl, very smart and funny. I like her.
Her dad has invited my son to have dinner with them next Friday. So he sounds nice too.
I think my son has is smarter than I was at that age & less likely to do anything stupid. Still, I educate and warn him. I'm still his mum.

Re: Taking the plunge
Glad you like her too, that's a huge bonus
Dinner at dad's, sounds committed 😀
Daughter will ring when she wants to get picked up.
I'll go to bed and hopefully sleep until then.
Goodness knows what time 😮😀
At least she'll be home eventually.
I've warned her of everything possible etc.....
So she knows right from wrong and hopefully she'll take notice.
And to keep an eye open for bad people.

Re: Taking the plunge
I just find it hard letting go.
She'll be fine, I'm sure.
I'm getting better at letting go.
I just have to not think of what I went through, she's different and much more wiser.
I was naive and gullible and trusted anyone. Totally different

Re: Taking the plunge
@Former-Member as my son keeps reminding me, just because I did silly or dangerous things at his age, doesn't mean he would be as stupid as me. Harsh. But hopefully true.
We just have to trust they are safe.

Re: Taking the plunge
Re saying it's not the same
I learnt to recognise that my fears are coming from my past traumas and I have to stop myself from worrying.
Took a while for me to catch on that I was terrified that something terrible was going to happen to her.
Silly me.
At least I know now that I was being silly.
I get triggered and have to get control of my fear thoughts.
It's not worth it.

Re: Taking the plunge
Sounds like you are doing a good job recognising that your old fears don't need to be transfered to your daughter @Former-Member. That's a hard one to learn. But you have relaxed and done it. Recognising that she wont experience what you have.
Our children are tough and smart.

Re: Taking the plunge
I think we are teaching them to do well in life.
It's a tough job being a mum and trying to teach them the right way.
Big decisions to make.
II feel that I can relax a little, now that she's grown up, but we'll never stop being mum. 😊
