The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

C and I just got home from being part of a small group on a guided tour through one of the little national parks here... at night. It was really something different to do. We all had torches and spotted wildlife and evidence of it on the way: a brush tailed possum, a fruit bat, spiders and their webs, termite mounds, scat, scratch marks on trees. And the highlight of the night: a koala high up in a eucalypt. The walk was downhill about 1.25km and then back again, so about 2.5km all up, taking an hour to do, with stops to look at sights spotted on the way. Half an hour after the walk has ended, I am still fogging up my spectacles with body heat from the struggle to make it back up the hill, lol. I get extra points in my own estimation for doing that uphill climb. Walking up and down hills is something I usually avoid. But, I made it! Feeling enlivened.

We may have to do marathons to walk off our worries @Faith-and-Hope. Well done to you and @Mazarita @Sans911@Shaz51 @Former-Member@Maggie. Maybe @TAB and @Determined got some walking in today as well.

Hi all, just got back from my walk on the beach today. About 3 kms. Lovely day, feel better for it. Probably won't be a lot more walking for the rest of the day so thought I'd get in relatively early with my update today. Keep on keeping on, fellow walkers.

Nice @Mazarita ..... 💕

Today is 2.5km for me .... a little of that is incidental exercise, and there will be a little more across the day, so I might make 3km ..... but won't know unless I remember to look it up again before I go to sleep .... 😊

It's lovely to hear you enjoying the walks ..... and that nature walk sounded amazing.

Cheers, @Faith-and-Hope. I'm exploring android mobile app options for pedometers. When you use yours, can you just have it in your bag with the screen off?
