HOME

Well I'm finally home (again).
4 hospital stays in 91 days. Wow. No wonder it feels so strange to be in my own house again. Adjusting will take time. Cooking for myself will take time.
My house is in the same condition in which I left it. A pigsty. So no one room has warmth and charm to lift my mood. Will have to slowly start cleaning up - one room at a time.
I did go and watch my son play soccer in the finals. I'd been so sick this year - thst it was the first game I had been to all year. His team lost. But they play again next week. So still stand a chance of playing the grand final.
My son is still living with my mum. Has been since the end of April. Hopefully he will see how much I've improved on my new anti depressants and anti anxiety meds. Then he may choose to come home soon.
Was up and doing the washing early this morning. But now reading a book in bed.
Am very bored. But have AA Meeting tomorrow night.
And I have my WorkCover IME (independent Medical Examination) - psych interview with a tough psychiatric on the 30th of this month. Think it could be on Wednesday. And then I have my much waited for Psychologist appointment. Can't see him when I'm in hospital (too far away).
So that's it for now. A new thread for a new beginning.

Re: HOME

Went to a discussion group on Self Compassion. Wow. That brought up lots of things. Even memories of how my dad used to tell me how I couldn't do anything because I was a girl. Tears.
And how before my MI I used to ne so kind and compassionate and interested in others. But when I'm sucked into my vortex of depression - I don't - I can't think or care about anyone else. How Iit takes all my energy just to breathe and stay alive.
Why is it easier to give compassion to others.
Why is it so hard to be compassionate to ourselves.

Re: HOME

So true @utopia. It's hard to be kind to ourselves. We are our worst critics at times.

About your Dad's comments, I remember my father once telling me that I should have been a boy. My parents already had a first born son and then a daughter so in his way of thinking another son would have been preferable. His family structure was four girls and then two boys so his thinking was somewhat all screwed up. There was a family business and the oldest daughter was entrusted to run things as the boys were considerably younger.

Maybe it was a generational thing. Before the times of Girl Power and all. In any case it has hurt you. I also remember my Dad not allowing him to help him in his workshop because i was a girl and shouldn't get my hands dirty.

Just concentrate on yourself for now. We are willing you to get better and are looking forward to seeing glimpses of the former Utopia.

Art Therapy this morning. Ouch!
The topic was our emotions. What emotion do you struggle with the most?
So I did Anger. A collage with a volcano spewing forth fire and rocks everywhere. Never knowing where that anger will land or how hot/toxic it will be.
Then I did a collage of sadness. With tears falling so heavily that I'm drowning in big choppy waves of tears. And I'm struggling not to sink too far down.
It feels like these are my 2 main emotions - anger and sadness. I get angry with my son over nothing. I get angry with myself because I can't do what I want to do. Then I feel guilty and sad.
The tears flowed in this class this morning.
The Art Therapist said it was all fire and water. Where is the earth. Where is my grounding. I said I don't have that anymore. I have no passion for anything. There is nothing that is a comfort.
I just go from anger to sadness. Sadness to anger.
I have taken a PRN calmer. I don't want to feel anything.

Re: HOME

Have been reading through this feed @utopia. Art therapy does seems to bring up a lot of emotions. I hope this stay will help you for the better. Hugs to you

Re: HOME

Thanks for sharing that with us @utopia. It shows that you have an awareness of your emotions and that's very important. You also say imply that ypu don't want to feel that way. That's another good thing.

I really like how the therapist saw the manifestation of your emotions and mentioned the earth as a metaphor for grounding. I hope that you are able to find something that can facilitate that.

This struggle you have is draining the energy from you. There is peace to be had - I hope you find a way to access it.

Re: HOME

Another group. More tears.
At least I can cry now. But I don't want to.
I don't want to feel. I want to numb myself.
No alcohol allowed. No medication to numb me.

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia - The interesting thing about self-criticism and lacking self-compassion is that they are learned at a very early age. As children we don't know our place in the world so we are what we are told we are. It took me a lot of therapy to realise that all my self-hatred was because of what others had put in my head. No one is born feeling that way about themselves. We have to take responsibilty for our own behaviour eventually but we can see the seed that our negative emotions grow from and who planted them. I'm glad the art therapy is beneficial to help get all this stuff out in the open. Everything that is buried has to rise to the surface and you're in the right place with the right people to deal with it now. Would be really great to see your paintings if you're comfortable to share them. Hope the rest of the day goes well for you. Onwards and upwards.
