LGBTI folk

Hey, I just wanted to start a thread here in case there are others struggling with all the media crap around this postal survey. Everywhere I go in the community people are finding it really hard so I thought people here must also be.

I am.

Maybe we can just make a space to take care of each other. I feel that we really need to do that right now. This atrocity is going to continue for months.

Re: LGBTI folk

I can't wait to this vote is finally over.
As a transguy I'm so sick of all the hate and homophobic comments out there. A lot of the no campaign was directed widely at the lgbtqia community in general not just about marriage equality. Being gay or trans isn't our fault don't make it out that we're evil leeches of society trying to turn every kid gay or trans, we want to support people no matter there gender or sexuality.

Sorry rant over.

Re: LGBTI folk

Hey @The-red-centaur, I'm sorry to hear you've been affected by the hate messages of the No campaign too. I must say every time I see their commercials on the television or on social media, my skin crawls. Mainly because my own family believe in what these hate mongers are preaching and as a result, voted No (despite me being a lesbian). I just want the whole marriage postal survey to be over too. It has divided communities and families over a postal survey which never should have happened in the first place.

Be gentle with yourself.

Re: LGBTI folk

The only tv I've been watching is the music channels on Foxtel @Former-Member. There is one song which gets me everytime, that 1800-273-8255 song. It is about a young gay man being rejected by his Father and is almost driven to suicide. Whenever it plays, the music channels put up Lifeline's number as 1800-273-8255 is a suicide prevention helpline number in the US. It still reminds me of all the intolerance and hate happening in Australia towards the LGBTIQPA community.

Re: LGBTI folk

It triggers me too @outlander. When it's playing, I usually mute the tv until it's over. It's too much to take in.

Re: LGBTI folk

It comes on the radio alot too so i dont listen to radio either. It has thr same effecta on me as it does you only i didnt realise the entire story behind it it just reminds me of my past attempts and thoughts and actually makes me remember why i dont them in the first place so causes a major spiral downwards.

I mean well done for making it and making awareness but i bet theres more than us that it triggers hey
