Bastless and Odin

Bastless and Odin

Dear all lovely people

Sometimes the greatest loss leads to another option. Although Bast has physically gone, the influence remains as strong as ever. My other furrbabies seem to have gone through the initial adjustment phase and are now stronger as a result. My A child certainly did handle the cat herd so well. All others tended to wander around lost as I did. Then the dynamic of feline leadership began to shift. -
They all needed cuddles as did I, and as they developed - my furrbabies commenced developing another strategy. My baby girl (rescue at 4 weeks) is currently holding the iron throne, although Oracle another early recue is in usurping role - he is deaf and to hear his interpretation of growling and mewling is phenomomel - somehow he knows.

I lost Bast 5 weeks ago and the pain remains raw.

We have adopted since a rescue Bengal, Odin of legendary fame. He is a 3 year old large brown spotted male, overweight and awkard at times. Odin has needed a great deal of support to adjust to his new home. He has been living in the partner's study and received a great deal of 1:1 support, protecting him from the "Crown of thorns developments" He is now catching up and has become my partner's new friend - for me I have bites and scratches that are still not healing well. It does not matter.

I still miss Bast and the TB has become necessary again. I am now trying to contend with the aftermath of the work pollution. I was (gererously) paid for by my work insurer to attend a psychiatric assessment.

Apparently I have been pushed over the line after 4 years of discrimination and abuse. The diagnosis is really difficult as it is permanent - BPAD2. It hurt to even right that down, I was simply trying to handle PTSD for what my work has intentionally done - it is truly fabulous to conceptualise that this can happen.

I have developed panic for the 1st ever time and am not coping well, anything that happened or is related has become a trigger. The horror just goes on and on.

Re: Bastless and Odin

Thanks @Bast. But WorkCover pulled out of hearing today with a full win to me.
They will backpay me from March this year. Continue to now get my fortnightly payments and they continue to look after my medical/psych bills.
So I don't have to do the Conciliation Hearing now. They told me at 2.45pm.
This part is all over.

Re: Bastless and Odin

@Bast. Just wanted to check on you and let you know I'm thinking of you. I hope Odin is growing in his way and continuing to find his true self.
Odin is a lot like some of us here. I know I can get lost in my Mental illness and when I start recovering - that's where I need to find myself again. Know where and with whom I feel safe again.
We are a lot like your Odin. Your posts resonate with me. We can be like lost or neglected cats. Yet within us, we are strong warriors like Odin.
I hope you have a great day.

Re: Bastless and Odin

Hi @utopia

so many thank yous for your incredibly poingnant post. Just so evocative and completely true. I am an Odin cat - struggling to continue and as he must feel just trying to feel safe.

It is so true that we can recognise improvement in our mental state. Mine is unfortuantely at the point of the constant need to surrender, my hold on the wall has weakened badly. I just so hate feeling like this and then it becomes self loathing - unfortunately you get it from personal experience.

On Odin - he has now fully adjusted to mainstream wet cat food and small meals. He is doing well with the weight loss and has a marginal increase in activity. He actually came down to investigate my return with the shopping last week. Subsequently Baby Girl and Oracle smacked him. A race for santuary ensued - back to the protaganists study for relief.

It is just wonderful to see him venture out of his room when he can. The wobbling around the banisters continues - somehow he knows this is what he can do. So longing for Odin to be safe enough and strong enough to wear his undies on the outside - leap and literally fly.

The protagonist has accepted to some degree how miserable I am feeling - I feel his concern that I might not make it through this round. Kinder as a result.

Re: Bastless and Odin

You are an Odin cat @Bast. To me that means, even when you think you can't go on, somehow you do. You retreat to safety. Find a place to lie down where you don't need to hold on. You slowly explore what you can do & you do what you know. Occasionally you will try something new and get knocked back by other cats.. But occasionally you'll have your superhero undies on & you'll be able to push through and do things you didn't think was possible.
Sounds like you might be coming to this stage now. So big girl undies on. Wonder Woman style.
You've got this.

Hi Utopia

You are a incredible writer and person, thank you for your thoughts and care. Today I ran with your advise the big girl undies were needed - I wore them. I drove the usual 40klm each way and conducted 6 sessions with people in need of MH support.

I did not want to get out of bed and I certainly did not want to leave the house - did it anyway - WW here I come with a gold lasoo. Not quite but still kept your analogy and your words as a very treasured incentive. I just simply refuse to wear that astonishingly bad gold crown.

The clinging onto the wall has been strengthened as a result. You are so right I am a strong person, I hope as strong as you. We are the Odin's of this world, warriors within and at times needing relief. i do so fear further corrosion due to onslaughts from the 5 months of workplace trauma and belittlement. I also really fear the financial consequences - my furrbabies will always be cared for however I do not know how I can do the rest.

The SI stuff is so tangible - however I feel that somehow I am being looked after, last years events were tricky. I am smply not meant to. - the why is a reflection pathway - healthier than others.

I so hope that you and the beautiful Abey are doing OK - it is so much about time to heal. I have to take your self care on board although I cannot just decide to read a novel anymore. I used to do the cover to cover - I am now unable.

How are you travelling with the domestic goddess routine - an inescapable part of our lives isn't it. I have after all of this time at tleast commenced - long way to go though. When I consider it I just want to curl up in my bed, medicate and make it go away - I think it is so symbolic of the stage.

On Odin and new friends

Odin is continuing to do well on his diet, I am a mean mummy, no more snacks (dried food) he is doing better with the wobbly balance and today visited downstairs upon my return home. He subsequently did a (relatively) well balanced walk and greeted me for a pat - a parade to be proud of. We played for a while - trying to teach him to leap up. The protangonist has been informed that this is important to continue - doubtful he will! Interestingly Odin is now finding his part in the hierachy here, the iron thrown continues to belong to Baby Girl, although Odin is now strong enough to defend and take more territory - the protangoinst reported he is now smacking Oracle back, whilst using his climbing pole for cover. Bengals are so smart when encouraged. From all reports Odin has never met another feline before - wow this is encouraging, he will learn from them. I now have baby girl (somewhat on the overweight side (bad mothering) able to leap from the bench to the kitchen cabinets, a feat she has never displayed before. I think she remembers Bast as does Oracle, he used to cuddle up with him. He has certanly trialled my others however not quite the same.

I take TB to bed now every night - somehow it helps.

Lotsa luv Bastless and Odin

Re: Bastless and Odin

@Bast. My domestic goddess skills are still noneexistent. Although I have picked up rubbish - filled the bin - but forgot to put bin out for emptying last night. Aaarrrggghhh. Have done a bit of mowing. Almost half the backyard. Have cleaned my yucky window frames. That's it.
My washing machine isn't working. It won't empty. Going to have to sort that out.
Wonder Woman - you don't want to wear the crown thing. I don't want to wear a skimpy outfit. Lol.
Sounds like you kicked some butt - with your pants on. Got the job done and felt good for it afterwards. That's brilliant. A great effort.
Yes your cats are all settling in. I can imagine babygirl and maybe another cat - trying out some if Basts moves. See if they can pull it off now they are Top Cat. Lol.
And my other dog is a bit overweight. It's hard to get their food balance right and say no to treats. Hard being a furbabies mum.

Hi Utopia - thank you you made me smile, how utterly lovely. Well I am not the only bad mum after all - how is your other somewhat generously proportioned furrbaby doing?: And - wow you are so much better than than the GD thing - lawns are looking good.

Much better than in our WW big blue starred pants - urghuuuuuuu. Although the image still worked for me today. No more for tomorrow though - not up for the girdle that will be essential. Or the stuff you into into that will supposedly fix everthing - pity that I can't actually breathe.

Psychologist tomorrow - I literally still cannnot talk about what has happened - last appointment overdrive due to panic.

I am still trying to get another appointment with the psych - she sent the necessity to GBS and to my GP - throw L back into the mix - no chance from my perspective, did a bit of a party with L and did not shape up well for a week. Now the GP is snooty at being told what to do. I am supposed to to do the full on testing thing, not keen, as I do not want to know, great stuff to also have to consider. All I really want is to run away and make it all go away.

My superan will keep my furrbabies going.
