Bastless and Odin

Bastless and Odin

Dear all lovely people

Sometimes the greatest loss leads to another option. Although Bast has physically gone, the influence remains as strong as ever. My other furrbabies seem to have gone through the initial adjustment phase and are now stronger as a result. My A child certainly did handle the cat herd so well. All others tended to wander around lost as I did. Then the dynamic of feline leadership began to shift. -
They all needed cuddles as did I, and as they developed - my furrbabies commenced developing another strategy. My baby girl (rescue at 4 weeks) is currently holding the iron throne, although Oracle another early recue is in usurping role - he is deaf and to hear his interpretation of growling and mewling is phenomomel - somehow he knows.

I lost Bast 5 weeks ago and the pain remains raw.

We have adopted since a rescue Bengal, Odin of legendary fame. He is a 3 year old large brown spotted male, overweight and awkard at times. Odin has needed a great deal of support to adjust to his new home. He has been living in the partner's study and received a great deal of 1:1 support, protecting him from the "Crown of thorns developments" He is now catching up and has become my partner's new friend - for me I have bites and scratches that are still not healing well. It does not matter.

I still miss Bast and the TB has become necessary again. I am now trying to contend with the aftermath of the work pollution. I was (gererously) paid for by my work insurer to attend a psychiatric assessment.

Apparently I have been pushed over the line after 4 years of discrimination and abuse. The diagnosis is really difficult as it is permanent - BPAD2. It hurt to even right that down, I was simply trying to handle PTSD for what my work has intentionally done - it is truly fabulous to conceptualise that this can happen.

I have developed panic for the 1st ever time and am not coping well, anything that happened or is related has become a trigger. The horror just goes on and on.

Hi all

I write again as life is again so utterly painful, I do not know any reason to keep on trying. Everything just hurts. My partner has taken up his usual caustic remarks, the aggressive comments and hostility are so hard to cope with. I know he is experiencing being unwell, with multiple nasty germs as am I however the verbal abuse has started again. He will then act like nothing has happened.

I know that this is because my workcover claim has been reneged upon because I still undertake private practice. I am accordingly now able to return to the workplace that has harmed me so badly on a full time basis.
They have a supplementary IME report to prove it.

My partner became angry, hostile and aggrresive ever since. It is now my fault that I cannot work there ever again. I have done my best to continue my counselling practice 8+ hours per week. I honestly do not know how I can go on.

Bast has gone, I cannot feel his presence at all, I hope that this is OK, I miss him so much. Odin is on his way to doing better. He has lost some weight and regained some confidence and agility, so good to see. He is now balancing effectively on the bannnisters and taking strolls downstairs. His reportedly much loved cat tree is still of little interest although my others seem to like it.

I am so unwell now that I cannot see any way forward.

Regards and thank you Bastless and Odin

Re: Bastless and Odin

Hello @Bast. Good to hear from you. Can you ignore your husbands comments or throw then back in his face?
You may not be able to feel Bast anymore - but that's okay. He probably stayed around in spirit until he knew you were okay.
Yes hubby is still a pain. But your cats have settled into a new group and Odin is gaining in confidence & character. That's perfect.
Remember your Bast for the unique character that he waa. Not felt. But not forgotten.
Thinking of you

Hi all

Thank you your kindness and support are everything to me.

Queenie thank you for your lovely words - Odin and I are also sending you hugs and purrs.

Utopia thank you - your empathy matters so much - the hubby's behaviour hurts, I have tried repeatedly to address this for 26 years, sometimes he improves for a while and then just goes straight back to the same old passive/aggressive caustic sh..... At least I know he is a slow learner - and I do get that when I am vulnerable it really takes a hold. Confrontation - he becomes viscious and subsequently apologises and improves for a while - I am just not up for this at present. You are so right Bast remains in my heart and my mind. Odin continue to develop and evolve here. I will do my best to make this happen.

Utopia I hope that your journey is continuing to improve and being home is now ideal for you. I continue to admire your strength and courage. I will endeavour to emulate you with the workcover battle that is pending.

with many thoughts

Re: Bastless and Odin

Hi @Bast ..... the only answer I have found for passive-agressive behaviour is to be passively resistant .... be polite, but removed, and remove yourself physically from the same space as quickly as you can in a dignified manner .... giving just enough attention to whatever is going on to not incite it further, and then saunter off to a different part of the house and make yourself busy with other things.

It doesn't resolve it, but it's the only way I have found to live with it and quasi-improve it.

Thankfully it wasn't present within my in-house relationships until recent years, and is progressively being brought back under control again now by a therapy team.

Please take care of you ..... ❣️

Re: Bastless and Odin

Hi @Bast - I do hope life improves for you. I'm glad Odin is settling in. It's a shame Hubby is not more supportive - do his comments come out of frustration with you or frustration with himself? Sometimes we take out our moods on the nearest person but 26 years is a long time to keep up that behaviour. @Faith-and-Hope and @utopia have given good advice - sometimes you need to be direct and ask "what do you really mean by that comment? Passive aggressive is not a direct form of communication and is more of a way of hiding true feelings. He does need to support you more with the workcover stuff - As someone who is also going through a similar situation I know how important it is to feel supported. I've kept all of it to myself as I don't really have anyone who understands. Please take care and say Hi to the cats from me.
