psychiatrist appt - terrified

I Have an appointment with my psychiatrist by telemed today. I'm feeling sick about it because i stopped taking one of my medications after court because of how they used it against me to make me sound like a deranged psychopathic liar. I take it to help me sleep but they kept repeating what the use of the tablet is usually prescribed for and now they're saying that if i'm taking that type of medication i can't be stable enough to be a parent. They also kept reading out the psychiatrists report from when i was first in hospital in January and making me say that i was severely mentally ill back then, and perhaps i could be now and either i was lying when i said i wasnt or i wasnt in a fit state to know if i was or not. I'm scared to say anything to the psychiatrist because anything he says or writes will be flipped and skewed by the lawyers for my ex in famlly court. Even if he writes i'm recovering well they'll just say that proves i was 'faking' it in january to put off court. It feels like no matter what i do say its going to be used against me and i just want it all to go away! I'm not doing so well, i know i'm not. But im so scared of telling anyone. our next court hearing is in a weeks time. I thought that a lot of this stuff, these games and stuff would be easier if i got a 'win' in court but its made no difference whatsoever because the 'best' thing for the children is seen as having their 'father' in their lives - until he hurts them. The police and psychologists have all said he will eventually but it doesnt matter to the courts.

Sorry, rant over, has anyone felt like they coudnt talk honestly with their mental health team/person/people?

I've seen him about 4 times and only by telemedicine on the tv link up thing which I find really difficult and I know this sounds terrible but because he's male I find myself really anxious and hard to tell him things. Plus he's very decisive quickly about what is required and that scares me too though he speaks gently and kindly.

He does know about family court but he seems naive about it as he thinks that if I'm seeking help its all good...

I am glad he is decent to you ... telemed must be frustrating ... Maybe there is a middle line between your worry of a worst case scenario coming true and his naivete.

Your psychologist seemed to be calm and she was the one who had you go to police re statement ... if I remember rightly ... so she must have faith in you too.

As a woman and a mum ... spend the time children are "at their work" doing what you absolutley need to do.. bring them and do business stuff with them only when you feel up to it ... you dont have to be a perfect mum .. just a good enough one.

Re: psychiatrist appt - terrified

I can't sleep and feeling very anxious nights are terrifying and every sound is someone coming to get me. Everyone is trying to help but it doesn't change the reality of living through this stuff or help my kids adjust to yet another upheaval.. Which probably sounds ungrateful which I'm not i am thankful there are supports but they don't all agree and at the end of the day the buck stops with me and I have to work out what is best for us but that is hard and so much responsibility - the weight of it is crushing

Re: psychiatrist appt - terrified

I lost my eldest 2 children to my violent/controlling ex husband. He had more money and dragged the matter out after having the kids for an agreed access weekend. Once he had the children status quo came in and the kids were with his parents and I was in a safe house, magistrate said I didn't have stable housing so the kids would stay where they were at his parents house. He moved in with his parents and although it has been a hard 15 years having to fight for access to continue, my eldest son is now at uni and we have a great relationship and my daughter is finishing secondary college and she spends more and more time with me due to her father being so controlling. FAMILY COURT IS A JOKE AND A MONEY MAKING BUSINESS.!

Re: psychiatrist appt - terrified

Hi suzimo
That is exactly my concern, he has money and great lawyers and drags things out as well, always in control of all the court happenings and keeps up the appearance of the victim...
I'm just so exhausted with everything and not sure I can keep fighting, my whole life has been battle after battle and I never get free.
Glad that you have a good relationship with your children now but it doesn't make up for what you lost in that time.
