Psychosis

Psychosis

I'm trying to beat paranoia / delusions without drugs but it's very difficult. Every now and then something sets it off, triggers it again. Right now I'm going through it again. It's been several months since the last time. So again I'm finding myself half convinced that everyone I know is in on a plot to 'fix' me. That the government has hired these people to exercise mind control tactics on me to set me on the path they want me to be on. The other half of me just thinks that the people are harmless, nice, normal. But it feels so real. I'm trying not to think about it. It's scaring me - I don't want to feel this way. Life is great when everything feels normal. I don't know what to do. Medication turns me into a zombie. I try to exercise and eat well and all that to control it but it's hard - one slip up, one coffee and I'm spiralling back out of control again. If I go to the dr and get diagnosed then what? They force feed me ******** and send me to a psychiatrist who - what? Pretends to listen to me. Thinks about his next holiday in Fiji while I talk about my delusions and how real they feel. Puts me on disability? Then what? I get shoved to the side, everyone glances at me pitily - oh poor girl, her brain is fucked. Great. Why can't I just make this go away? Why?

Re: Psychosis

Hi @DefiantPanda, I know how scary psychosis is... It sounds like you are struggling at the moment. Have you got friends or family you can talk to? What's helped you in the past? Has medication helped in the past?

Re: Psychosis

I don't know. It usually just runs its course. I'm just a bit sad that it keeps happening. Last time I found a self help group to talk to but after I got better I didn't want to remain in the group anymore. I'm a bit wary of going back as while the support they offered was helpful I found some of their core messages a little off. Do you have any suggestions as to what might make this go away faster?

Re: Psychosis

I can understand that you would be feeling sad. The only thing that has worked for me for psychosis is the antipsychotics as much as I hate taking them. Have you got a GP or psychiatrist you can talk to?

Hi @DefiantPanda,

Welcome to the forums!! I am so glad you found us 🙂 Thank you for sharing your story. It sounds like an incredibly difficult and overwhelming situation that you’re in facing, repeating the cycle over and over trying so hard to change it, but not knowing a way out... But by logging on here it shows that you haven’t given up and have internal strength despite everything!

You’re not alone with this, I know many people on this forum have also struggled with psychosis @kenny66, @Linmerc . I like your suggestion @hazelhawk about finding someone to talk to (who you trust) and I found your story very inspiring..

Does anyone else have any experience or suggestions about what might help?

Re: Psychosis

I feel bad bothering my GP with every little thing... I'm not sure why. I feel like the delusions are abating, thankfully. Or at least they're fading into the background, becoming managable. I'm still distrustful and suspicious but it's not overwhelming me anymore. I might just take a break for a few days and try not to stress over anything and I'm sure it'll just disappear. I have a packet of antipsychotics in the cabinet but trying really hard not to have to use them. Knowing they are there is good though, as a last resort.

Re: Psychosis

Hi @DefiantPanda, so glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better and not so overwhelmed. I think you're idea of taking a break for a few days and lowering stress levels are fantastic steps to take. What would help you to do this do you think?... I was having a look around and wondering how other people manage stress? Any tips...

I noticed a thread from early this year about a coping box..not sure if you've seen it?. Great idea . Just in case here's the link. I also noticed a discussion on stress here.....

I also wanted to say...when you mentioned not wanting to bother your GP...this doesnt sound like 'just a little thing', it sounds like it been a tough time. I sometimes think about it abit like if my car was starting to over heat or splutter around I wouldnt leave it even if all it needed was some extra oil or change of filter, I would check. It's always worth checking in. That's what GP is there for too, particularly if you've got meds at home and are considering taking them... I'm aware easy for me to write not so easy to do. How have others got there....I know @Crazy_Bug_Lady and @Former-Member have talked about seeing GPs too....

Re: Psychosis

It's just not working, it keeps coming back. I'm fully convinced now that everything I thought was 100% true. I feel scared and I'm forgetting what normal feels like. It feels like I'm on the Truman show and everyone is watching me and talking and laughing about me as I walk down the street. It's going to get to the point where I can't leave the house again. I'm suspecting people I know are messing with me, plotting against me. It really hurts to feel like this. I can't remember how I made it go away the last time.

Hi @DefiantPanda

It seems like things are getting worse for you at the moment.

You would not be bothering your GP by talking to them about this and I strongly suggest you make an appointment to visit them before things escalate.

Would you be open to seeing your GP?

Re: Psychosis

Yeah I think I should I'm just afraid. But I guess I should trust her.

Re: Psychosis

I think it takes a lot of courage to try and manage strong symptoms without meds .. mostly I try and minimise meds but have to face that sometimes it is wiser to take them too.

Nobody wants to be fixed as that implies there is something wrong in the first place. I like that it is somehow better than them all being out to get you.

I am not good with trust and tend to hang back or jump in .. and am learning about it slowly.

You sound like a sensitive soul and being on display can feel like being over exposed.

Self acceptance is so important and something I am working on and finally achieving a little peace with. Good luck getting support from someone who can trust.
