a bit about what has been happening

a bit about what has been happening

hi everyone

I was posting in the carers thread and decided to jump over here too - I am supporting my 23 year old son with his anxiety but I am not always doing so great myself, not just because I worry about him but I lost my youngest son in 2015, he would be 21 last month.

It is a real struggle some days. Some days I just want to scream, and be angry at him, but I can't be angry at him, it was not his fault. i feel like a terrible mother for getting angry at him. Other days I want to cry and cry. I look at photos of him and I think about him growing further into adulthood, a partner, children, and that will never happen for him, his life was cut too short and I'm always thinking about what things would be life if he was still here.

It's bad enough that the drugs damaged his body to such an irreparable state but for you to have to make that decision for life to totallly drain away from him must have been so difficult and heartbreaking. A life cut short, one full of promise and so many experiences ahead - ones you should have been sharing with him.

You are right @lovemyboys - unless someone has been in that position, one can never know your pain.

My own kids are 21 and 22. It gives me the greatest joy that they are both currently happy. That hasn't always been the case and undoubtedly they will experience challenges that will sadden them, make them anxious. I hope that they will be able to turn to me for support and that I will be there for them. That is my primary goal right now. It is what keeps me going.

How about what happened tonight? What were you doing? Why is your son so upset..? @lovemyboys

It breaks our heart when people we care about are struggling @lovemyboys. It doesn't matter if your son is three or thirteen or twenty three - you want him to be happy. I get it.
