Re: not coping

Asymptomatic- No symptoms

Right bundle branch block- i know it has something to do with electrical impulses but i don't really get it or how to define it.

malaise- general feeling of discomfort

Dyspnoea- difficulty breathing

Syncope- feeling faint

ECG- electrocardiogram

CCU- cardiac (or is it coronary the correct term?) care unit (i know its also critical care unit but they've asked for cardiac terms..

Cyanosed-blue discolouring

Clubbed- Club shaped

Vesicular breath sounds- i think that's just normal breathing sounds?

Cephalic- relating to the head

Pace maker- Electronic device used to regulate the heart beat.

i think these will be the last ones for tonight @Sans911
the next ones is listening to reports and writing them the way they should be. theres 4 to do.
im knackered already just from answering these questions! i have no idea how you nurses write so many reports in a day!

Re: not coping

RBBB- you are almost there @outlander

So the heart has an electrical pathway through the septum down both the left into and right sides down into the ventricles. This makes the ventricles contract and forces blood into the atria. The is a left Bundle Branch, and a Right Bundle Branch. So if you have a blockage at any point on this pathway, it slows or stops the electrical activity reaching the right ventricle. This then impacts on the ability to pump blood into the atria, and out into the body (wow, just did that off the top of my head).

Usually a RBBB doesn't impact that much on the heart health of a patient. I actually have an RBBB.

Re: not coping

i had RBBB i just didn't write it down here- i should've cause you know what it is 🤦‍♀️ @Sans911

if the electrical impulses keep getting blocked would that cause a heart attack because oxygen isn't getting to the cells? i know if you've got artery blockages or buildups like CAD then it puts you at higher risk but never really thought about electrical impulses and how that might affect it- would that cause like palpitations then?

Re: not coping

CCU - depends on which hospital, country there are few definitions for this one. It is usually Cardiac or Coronary Care Unit. Sometimes even when it is known as a Critical Care unit these have cardiac patients, but there are often patients with other illnesses, so not strictly cardiac.

Cyanosed- yes, a blue discolouration from lack of oxygen in the blood, but it only found in peripheries (fingers/toes), skin and mucousal membranes (lips, mouth). There is another cyanosis called central.

vesicular breath sounds are normal @outlander but they differ from bronchial breath sounds. They are soft and low pitched with a rustling quality during inspiration and are even softer during expiration. And you hear the sounds longer with inspiration than you do expiration.

When I write reports there are do ways I do it, and also depends what department I work. So I write immediately when something happens out of the ordinary. And sometimes I write towards the end of a shift. There are different systematic ways to write, but I often use a body systems approach, and go from head to toe. But yes, sometimes writing notes is laborious and tedious, but very necessary. If it's not documented, it's not done.

Thanks heaps @Sans911
So much to learn! So fascinating!
Ive just done the 4 reports they wanted. It was just listening to a recorded thing and typing it up but having to make sure the spacing, grammer etc is right.
Im just going back over everything now to double check everything and then ill sumbit it. One less to worry about!

Now that youve helped me get through tonight @Sans911 how are you going?

Re: not coping

No, electrical impulses don't supply oxygen @outlander. Just electrical impulses. They don't impact on oxygen. Blockages occur in the coronary arteries from the formation of plaque (cholesterol). But damage to cardiac muscle from a heart attack can impact on the electrical pathway. So you might get damage in the cardiac septum (the muscle in between the ventricles), damage to the ventricle muscles which damages the electrical pathway. Then you have some form of blockage. I hope that makes some sort of sense @outlander. Palpitations occur when there is damage also to the pathways but these also occur when there is damage to individual pacemaker cells. This is why I loved cardiac nursing-totally fascinating stuff.

Yep that actually makes sense! It is so fasinating though i say that about everything i study to do wih humans lol (except dementia 🤦‍♀️) this is the stuff i love to study though.

I cannot take the full credit for getting through this assignment. I did have lots of help! @Sans911
