Loneliness underneath my anxiety

Loneliness underneath my anxiety

I'm a single mum to 3 kids. I have been single for 4 years. I rarely get a break and my family are all interstate. I'm in my 30s and it's proving difficult to make real friends. I get anxiety every night. It's not too bad and I have windows of distraction when it goes away. I have noticed though during peaceful times I feel very lonely. I don't have anyone to talk to. My kids are young and I don't want to burden anyone but I really need to do something about these horrible feelings.

It sounds like you are fairly proactive and doing and planning well but dont have anybody giving you enough reassurance.

Three children at that age is a hand full .. go very gently with yourself.

Hello, I don't know where you live but there are Grow groups across Australia that are people who have had or have mental and emotional struggles helping each other learn new ways of expereincing life. They certainly have helped me to adjust to single life happily and peacefully and recongise, as another poster has said, that there are challenges both within and without relationship, but also the potential for satisfaction in either. Grow is based on the lived experience of recovery and recognises friendship as "the special key to mental health", so they have a lot of social activites as well. www.grow.org.au Good luck and I hope the suggestions on this page are helpful to you.

Hi @HappyOne

I find it difficult to fill my days too and that is creeping up on me as a difficulty. At least when i was at work i was around other human beings.. and could have a cuppa and talk about the weather with someone every now and then. But just being home on my own i now wonder though how i ever worked full time and kept up, because now i cant even keep up with the housework! but being fair to myself its been a hell of a month! My lil guy went to kindy this year because he got in by 3 days! But he's having lots of problems and now being screened for some autism behaviours (im devastated but if he needs extra help i've got to get it for him!).

I live in a regional town so there's not much int he way of groups or social stuff that I can go to when the kids are at shool and kindy which makes it hard.

Your course one day a week sounds great! I've been thinking about doing some more study, but not sure yet!

Hi I'm really struggling with the long days as well. I have been unemployed for 2 months now. Such a lonely feeling. Anyway try to remember your not alone. I know words don't really fill that space but good luck.
