Loneliness underneath my anxiety

Loneliness underneath my anxiety

I'm a single mum to 3 kids. I have been single for 4 years. I rarely get a break and my family are all interstate. I'm in my 30s and it's proving difficult to make real friends. I get anxiety every night. It's not too bad and I have windows of distraction when it goes away. I have noticed though during peaceful times I feel very lonely. I don't have anyone to talk to. My kids are young and I don't want to burden anyone but I really need to do something about these horrible feelings.

Hello,

I would say go to your GP and speak to them about what your experiencing. GP i think is always the first step. As for friends- you can make heaps in here- every one is fantastic 😄

Is there play centres around your area? Maternal nurses often know local fun events for kids and playgrpoups you could attend.

Thanks Baboo, I saw my psychiatrist and he increased my medication. I guess now the anxiety isn't as bad the real feeling of being lonely has showed up. I go to two playgroups a week and I've been really trying. I don't feel comfortable talking about my illnesses in case I scare them away but I really wish I could talk to someone who understands.

Some times its best not to tell new people every thing- adds a bit of mystery to your character 🙂

Id start off more conversations about poop and funny tantrum topics in my playgroups when meeting new people.

Having a forum like this is really good for speaking about your mental health- no one knows each other here so people tend to feel more safe and unjudged .

Hi @HappyOne

i'm a single mum to two kids, have anxiety and also feel really lonely. Its hard not having people in person to talk with, even just about the everyday struggles being a single mum... and not many people realise just how hard it is to be oncall 24/7 without any breaks. How old are your kids? mine are 4 and nearly 7. They're growing up way to quickly. My lil guy is very busy and keeps me on my toes!

Thanks @Former-Member

My kids are 9, 6 and 4. And they do keep you busy. Sometimes I think it would be great if someone could look after me. That's not going to happen though.

I ended up opting for single life or radical celibacy as I have seen it also called. In many ways being single mum is tough but not as tough as being in toxic relationship where emotional manipulations distort everybody. The loneliness of single parenthood can be a lot like the loneliness of the long distance runner .. and manageable and "rational" if that makes sense .. tather than bitter and twisted.

Re: Loneliness underneath my anxiety

I wasn't aware runners experienced loneliness. Last night I didn't get any anxiety at all and I went to bed early. You're right about the toxic relationship. I saw a post on here last night about going insane is a rational reaction to insane/sane circumstances. I wonder if I hadn't lost touch with reality if I would have left my ex at all.

Re: Loneliness underneath my anxiety

It was a story with a definite social message. Sometimes we dont realise that others are doing it tough as well. Maybe you can find a local craft, music or other social group in the hours that your youngest is in kinder. Do you have a community centre close by?

Its great to find freinds through kids but sometimes it is also good to have them independent .. as kids need their own connections.

He's not at kinder yet. He missed out going this year by 16 days. He does two days day care and I I'm doing a returning to work with a MI course on one of those days. Next year I'm going to volunteer 2 days a week. Hopefully. To get experience for work as I'm changing career. For the rest of this year... I don't know what to do.
