Survey on sex, intimacy and mental illness

Survey on sex, intimacy and mental illness

Hello Forumites

Last year a brave forum member started this conversation. It was quite an eye opener and had a ripple effect. It lead to this blog and this Topic Tuesday which in turn lead to an invite to a mental health conference. It's a chance to be part of a panel of mental health professionals making the point that our sector doesn't give this issue the time or attention it needs. It's to our clients detriment and it's something we need to change.

My role on the panel is to give voice to the experiences of those with a mental illness, their carers and partners. So I've created a survey to dig a little deeper into the topic. If you have a few minutes, I'd really appreciate you filling it in. It will only take 10 minutes and it's completely anonymous. The link will take you to another website (survey monkey) where no identifying information is recorded.

Here is the survey.

At SANE we'd also like to create some fact sheets and resources around this topic. And so your responses can also guide and give depth to this work.

Thank you. I appreciate you reading this far and for anyone able to do the survey 🙂

@NatalieS This was really unfortunate timing for me to be tagged into this conversation. I have not read what you wrote - as I am not able to deal with this topic atm but please do not let that discourage you from continuing to post in other threads whereI am able to read and respond.

Re: Survey on sex, intimacy and mental illness

Thanks @NatalieS, I appreciate your post and you taking the time to fill in the survey. We've had almost 1200 responses now which amazes me. Lots from people like you who have other fires to fight before they turn their attention to this one. But others too from people who wish there was more help available.

It's an area I certainly didn't venture into enough when I was in private practice, mostly because I was never sure that I had anything particularly useful to offer. So at the very least I hope we at SANE can create some resources to help both people affected and their treatment team.

Hope you stick around the forums now you're back 🙂

No I'm not @Former-Member and unfortunately seeing an email notification with this subject hasn't helped tonight. But please don't feel bad about this - it is my issue to deal with!

Okay, very final post to you in this thread @Zoe7. Just to say that I hope things feel better soon. Make sure you unsubsribed from the thread too so you don't get any emails with the subject line

seriously @Former-Member - I thought I had stated clearly what effect seeing the 'subject' had on me - and I had already unsubsribed. Now I have to log off altogether

Thanks @mrkotter 🙂 Over 1500 responses now so it's becoming a fantastic platform to raise awareness and guide some resource development.

How're you? Haven't crossed paths in a while.

Yeah, been under a lot of pressure at work but am in the process of winding up and moving to a new organisation. So I have some free time now to post.

Wow. That was a bit of pressure filling in that survey. I didnt realise how hard it is to talk about until now. I have pushed it so far down that i forgot about it. Its definitely something i need to try and sort out. Thanks @Former-Member
