What this community thought about exercise....

What this community thought about exercise....

Hi everyone,

We are about to close the poll on the right hand side of the of the forums homepage, but currently as it stands, a HUGE 72% of you said your favourite form of exercise was walking! That's a pretty convincing majority. The overall results were:

Running / Jogging: 14%

Swimming: 11%

Team sport: 3%

Walking 72%

What does everyone think about that response - unexpected? predictable?

Was there a sport or form of exercise missing from that list that you would have voted for?

Would have been nice to see other sports, weightlifting, yoga etc.

In a way, walking is the most natural form of exercise. My favourite: walks on the beach with bare feet just at the edge of the water.

@chookmojo - do you participate in any of these sports...
Yoga is a good one..
I wish I did weightlifting.. that would be amazing!

Re: What this community thought about exercise....

I do lift weights and that would tie with running as my favourite, though I haven't run for a while due to an injury and then the cold weather set in. I'll be starting up again in spring.

I have also really enjoyed several of the les mills workouts. Body Balance combines yoga, tai chi and Pilate's as well as meditation, and is really enjoyable. I've not been into regular yoga myself, I never got into the philosophy of it, but I like it for the balance, strength and flexibility, so being able to get that with the philosophy watered down suited me.

I used to do tai chi too.

Swimming, walking, Tai Chi, yoga and dance are my favourite, and have all been pursued at different times.

Running is out because of back.

When I had gym membership (7 years) I preferred Pump and Body Balance or free weights and cardio .. not for bod bewdifool .. for back and neck

Edit 2018 ...

This is still a good topic. @Faith-and-Hope you still walk.

Your job is physically active ... @outlander @Shaz51 ??? others ..

I have gone with Functional Exercise since I last posted and upped my monthly requirement with gardening and environmental activities and zoo.

Anyone else ...

Re: What this community thought about exercise....

I am just getting back into walking, and started using a great app. l figured with so many walkers on these forums I'd make sure you all knew about it too. It's called The Walk, and its by the same folks who did Zombies Run. Basically as you walk you trigger story points, an unfold a narrative in which you are a participant. The story line and chapter play style give you incentive to keep walking and find out what happens next.
