The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Yes @Phoenix_Rising forum land is so busy, dozens & dozens of posts each day.

It's almost impossible to keep up...

I didn't know that @soul has a holiday thread - somehow I've missed seeing that.

Over 120km of driving I did today - & 2 trips to & from the work base (which is a long way from me).

I'm sooo exhausted, I've goto leave for work at 7.30am tomorrow morning...

Yes I've so goto get that upward dog pose in now, before I collapse in the chair & don't get up...

I'm still working on doing my iRest yoga meditation stuff every day - I'll get it put into practice (I hope) sometime soon...

That's all meditational stuff (no physical postures).

Although it does include progressive muscle relaxation (tensing & relaxing muscles in your body) - which is definitely physical.

Hello @Phoenix_Rising

No I have not gotten around to trying the upward dog yet but I am planning to again tonight. I have even been so inspired by you all I am looking into starting yoga now.

How are you all getting on?

I was really good last week @Phoenix_Rising but this week I absolutely slacked off, so I promise I will try the upward dog this evening 🙂

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody,

I yoga-ed this morning. I am super enjoying upward dog (and cobra-ing, which I'm still doing). I am also super excited that I managed to do a forearm stand for quite a while before I fell over. I think doing upward dog and cobra is helping me to build strength in my forearms. Hey @Adge, what do you think about doing dolphin pose next week? It's like downward facing dog, but on your forearms.

@Former-Member I super hope to hear tomorrow that you tried upward dog.

@Former-Member I will be checking next week to see how you went with upward dog. Giggle. I am SO impressed that you found a picture of the moon doing yoga! I note that there are no underpants in the picture.

@Adge do you find the progressive muscle relaxation helpful? When I have giant feelings, one of the things I find helpful is tensing my entire body all at once and then relaxing it.

Happy yoga-ing everybody.

Hi @Phoenix_Rising

A forearm stand sounds impressive.

Dolphin pose sounds good - I shall have to re familiarize myself with that one, because I think I never get it quite right...

Yes tensing & releasing whole body all muscles at once (for PMR) is what I've been trying to do.

I need to practice that (or PMR) a lot more - because I haven't got it to be very effective yet...

I did several upward dogs this afternoon.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Oh I forgot to mention @Phoenix_Rising That I get giant feelings too.

Like you mentioned. Mine are often overwhelming & intensely distressing.

I've been getting a lot of those recently...

I also seem to build up a tremendous amount of body muscle tension - so effective PMR would be good for that too.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Are we still doing upward dog? Dolphin starts tomorrow (Monday)?

I did one upward dog, & a strange pose called thread the needle (in class). That's where you reach your arm sideways under yourself...

Yoga class left me feeling really sore & achy...

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good morning everybody, welcome to Monday.

Congratulations @Adge, you win a trophy for being the most committed yogi in Forum Land last week.

@Adge Did you enjoy doing thread the needle in class? We could make that the pose for next week if you want to???

@Shaz51 yay for cobra-ing!

So, after doing cobra pose and upward dog pose, I thought it would be cool to do dolphin pose because this is another pose that builds strength in the forearms. Here is how to do dolphin pose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9qEcTjmA78

I super like dolphins. Hey, @Faith-and-Hope, look, we are going to fill up the ocean around Forum Land with dolphins!

Hey @soul @TheVorticon @Shaz51 @Maggie @Ant7 @Adge @Mazarita@CheerBear @Former-Member @Anony18 @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @frog @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member let's be dolphins - just like flipper!
