The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Yes, I just did a shoulder-stand right then, because you reminded me...

Jelly puss came in, sniffed my nose, then tried to sit on my face - while I was upside-down doing the shoulder-stand.

Perfect timing for her, as I couldn't do much about it (in that position).

It was a bit off-putting, & cut my shoulder-stand rather short...

I love the mythology (& symbolism) of the Phoenix @Phoenix_Rising

Phoenixes rise from the ashes reborn (brand-new), I love that... I wish I could do that...

It's one of my all-time favourites, along with the several colourful Dragon figures that I have in my collection.

& a Dragon tattoo on one arm, & an angel on the other arm...

As I get to yoga class early, I did a shoulder stand before the class began. That way, I will have accomplished the Pose of the Week as we have never done it in any of the sessions I have been to. The legs up the wall has featured a few times.

How are we all going with the Shoulder Stand Pose? I don’t do the fold over and then put my legs up like that video @Phoenix_Rising. I just lay on my back and then prop myself up.

Now that I know what a shoulder stand is, I realise that I've done them quite frequently (although at various angles rather than straight 90 degrees).

But I can't get my head around how easily she did "plow pose". I'm too worried about accidentally injuring myself trying to do that. So I'll just shoulder stand in my regular messy way.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good morning everybody, I have already shoulder stood today, have you?

Thus far I have managed to do a shoulder stand each day this week. I am aiming for a perfect seven out of seven score!

@soul I super loved the picture of the frog. I think we have only done shoulder stand once in our class too, soul. Like you, we've done legs-up-the-wall a lot. I don't go into plough pose first either. However, when I saw the video, I thought it would be cool to use that one and then maybe do plough pose next week when everyone has already had a chance to acquaint themselves with it. What do you think of that idea, soul?

@Adge your description of Jelly puss "helping" you with your shoulder stand super made me giggle. Yes, I super like the image of the Phoenix too (obviously). Sometimes when I am in a gigantic muddle, puddle, cofuddle, I simply stand in the middle of my lounge room and say aloud "I am Phoenix Rising." Somehow I find that strangely soothing.

How are you going with yoga-ing this week @Former-Member? I have been following along with your story and I understand that today is a super big day in your world. I am thinking about you right now.

@TheVorticon that is really interesting that you said you've been doing shoulder stands without knowing you've been doing shoulder stands. I am curious to know in what context you have been doing them (only if you want to share). I was talking to my turtle whisperer just yesterday about how I naturally move a lot and that since starting yoga, I've discovered that things I've just always regularly done (like shoulder stands and plough pose) actually have names in yoga world. I always thought everyone just moved like that all the time.

Ok, well I will be continuing to shoulder stand each day this week. I super hope you will too.

Happy yoga-ing.

Thank you @Phoenix_Rising. Haven't done any yoga yet, but tonight when all this is over, hopefully I can get to it!!

Re: The great yoga adventure

@Phoenix_Rising I can't remember when I first learnt how to do them, but it was something I did as a kid whenever playing around on the floor. So now if I sit on the floor for any extended period of time, and I'm alone, I'll usually end up doing it just for something to do.
That's cool that you've been naturally just doing various yoga poses without knowing 🙂

Oh @Phoenix_Rising i wish I could post a photo on her of me and my children. So after a super hard day, I thought I would try the yoga pose of the week, the shoulder stand.

Well I didn't want to do it by myself, so I got my two children to do it with me. Well I can tell you that they are much better at it than me!

My husband took a photo of all 3 of us doing the shoulder stand against the wall! Since I cannot post it with our faces, you will just have to use your imagination!!

I told them that there is a new yoga pose each week, so I think we have two more to add!!
