The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

@Former-Member ROFL. I now have an awesome image in my brain of you doing child's pose under your desk in the Help Centre for the entire week. Shhhhhh, nobody tell the other moderators where @Former-Member is.

Thanks for tagging me into this thread @Phoenix_Rising! I do love going to yoga classes however I am not the best at it....but that doesnt matter right? I've been doing yoga on and off for years.

Keen to be inspired by this thread! How is everyone's child's poses going?

Child's Pose is the Best 😉

Re: The great yoga adventure

I did a Slow Flow class at the studio today and we started off in Child's Pose. We must have done just about every pose in the book. Three types of Warrior, Pigeon, Downward Dog with legs this way and that, Trees. You name it, we did it. Lots of twisting.

But no headstands or handstands although the instructor said that one of the poses we were doing could lead to it.

It was pretty full on and I even broke out in a sweat. I really enjoyed it especially at the end when we lay on our back, bolster under our knees. That's what I tend to do when I get there a bit early to unwind.

Hope you all found the child in yourself today.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody, I have been a child today, have you? I er...child-ed early this morning before I set off on a super big adventure.

@Shaz51 I'm excited to hear you child-ed yesterday. I wonder if you also child-ed today? @soul is handing out free shirts to anyone who manages to be a child at least five times this week. I guess next Monday will be shirt presentation day.

@Former-Member I am super excited to see you here in this most unusual of yoga groups. It's a shame you didn't start at SANE a couple of weeks earlier - we had a baby goat giveaway promotion. It was a huge success...but then everyone disappeared - I think because they were so busy tending to their new baby goats. There are some safety rules you need to know about, that we have already established in this group. No yoga-ing while skateboard riding (right, @TheVorticon) or mountain bike riding (right, @Ant7, and no yoga-ing in the shower or while wearing boots (right, @CheerBear). While some poses, such as child's pose, can be done on your bed, do not attempt any standing-up poses on your bed, and definitely no jumping on the bed (right @TheVorticon). Also, please abstain from using your phone or other electronic devices while yoga-ing (right @Faith-and-Hope). Finally, yoga isn't supposed to hurt. It is totally ok to not be very good at it, it's just superly duperly cool that you have a go (right, @Shaz51 and @Mazarita). Um...yep, I think that's all you need to know @Former-Member.

Ok, well even though I'm still on my super big adventure, I fully intend to be a child tomorrow. I super hope you will join me.

Re: The great yoga adventure

I reckon you got all those yoga rules down pat @Phoenix_Rising. I'm hoping that I can give out lots of Child Pose apparel next Monday. Thanks for sourcing the other styles.

I would definitely wear one of those to class.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Hi @Shaz51, @Former-Member, @soul, @Phoenix_Rising and all yogi bears,

Shaz, looks like we Scottish sisters are going at it at about the same pace. Happy we are both doing this.

Lauz, glad you are joining us too.

Soul, cool cartoon.

Phoenix, I'm so curious about your big adventure. 🙂

Yes, I was a child today. And I did the pose too. I have adopted the arms out in front version of the pose, got down further towards heels today. Something also moved in my torso while I was in the pose and suddenly my arms stretched out a lot further, in a good way. And I also treed, number 7, equivalent to a week of doing that pose. I think I will keep it in my home routine. My tree pose today was much better than when I started I think. I'm still a bit wobbly but I concentrated more today, both on the balance of the pose and breathing in it. I tried to breathe as freely as possible. Is that what you are meant to do? Or is it breathing to a count? I wonder. Meanwhile, in my (clearly improvised) home yoga, I also held the poses longer today than I have previously. It was a little more strenuous that way. I also felt physically better for that after doing each pose.

Blessings on all yoga children. As @aButterfly would say, namaste.
