The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Re: The great yoga adventure

As you probably know, my yoga studio was closed for renovations last week and I was semi devastated. Anyway with the impending re-opening I booked all this week's classes online last weekend.

I walk the 15-20 mins to class and like to rock up at a session about 15 minutes early, stake out my claim and then lay down and relax. This evening, I did just that and waiting in the foyer area for the precious class to finish. Time ticks by and another woman arrives and then another. We are sitting thinking that the class is running late today. Curiosity got the better of me and I open the door to the front desk area and have a peek through the door to the studio. The class is in full swing.

The instructor heads down and tells me that the time has been changed. A fortnight again before the reno, the teacher told us she was leaving and a new one would be taking over. It happens that this one could only take the class if it started earlier. Apparently the time was changed on the website. I had committted the timetable to memory and didn't think to check. Perhqps they should have emailed us.

So I was rather disappointed that the usual hour and a quarter class became a three quarter hour class. I guess I'll know for next time.

Anyway, we did the pigeon pose. We put the bolster in front and lay there for a while - very relaxing. We also treed and were Warriors.

Can't remember if we had a pose picked out for next week @Phoenix_Rising, but perhaps we could do the bridge pose. We did a variation with our arms tonight and she callled it the floating bridge.

Sounds like you're on your way to a forest there @Mazarita. Hope those classes you mentioned happen for you.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Only found out last night that my Yoga Studio has an App. I have downloaded it and booked the next week worth of classes. It even has reminders. I am going to a class that I have never done before this afternoon. Usually I have a rest day on the Saturday but because I only had half a class last night, I want to try a new one today.

Its called Yan to Yin. I really like the Yin classes so that's what we end up doing in the second half. I think the first part is a bit more energetic. Will find out soon enough.

Hope you are all being or planning on being pigeons @Phoenix_Rising@Mazarita@Shaz51@TheVorticon@Ant7@CheerBear and all the other Yogis.

Re: The great yoga adventure

I have missed both of my yoga classes this week, unfortunately.

Due to a conflict in timing with my psychologist appointment, & due to feeling too weak (still ill) to go early this morning.

I miss it, & I could certainly do with my yoga classes right now - & the sense of connection with the people I know there.

I did do the pigeon pose last Saturday (a week ago)...

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good on you @Adge. Hope you can get to a class soon.

My Saturday afternoon session was wonderful. I think I have found my new most favourite class. Another instructor I had never had before - seems to be quite a few of them. She was so good with the choice of poses and the pace. Her voice was soothing and I told her how much I enjoyed the class on the way out.

The entire session was spent on the mat. We did the Pigeon and a whole heap of other poses. I can really feel that I am improving and love the benefits that it has had for my mind too.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody. I have pigeoned today, have you?

I didn't pigeon yesterday, and I didn't even make it over to the yoga thread to say I hadn't pigeoned. I was busy Friday Feasting. Friday feast is so much fun...and yet so totally brain draining! Anyway...

@Shaz51 I'm super glad you managed to pigeon without causing yourself pain yesterday. And another pigeon today! That is super cool.

@Mazarita I am so excited that you are persisting with treeing and I am superly DUPERLY excited that you've put your name down for an impending class. It will be awesome if you can do a class somewhere where you already feel comfortable. I still don't feel entirely comfortable at the yoga studio...but the discomfort is worth putting up with because of the benefits I'm getting from going. But yep, going somewhere that is already familiar to you would be ideal.

@soul I hope you get into the swing of the new routine post-renovations at your yoga studio super soon. I hate change! I love how open you are to trying all the different sorts of classes. I on the other hand have got my same spot in the same class at the same time with the same teacher each week.

I think we were thinking of doing child pose this week @soul. Shall we do child pose this week and then bridge pose the following week? We did bridge pose in class for the first time last week. It was super cool. We had the bolster under us so that we didn't need to be scared of falling. The teacher said to do full bridge pose only if it was in our practice. I'd never done it before but me being me I figured I'd have a go. And hey, I could do it and it felt amazing!!! I tried once at home but without the bolster, I can see how I could potentially do myself an injury messing around by myself at home. I think I will invest in a bolster soon.

@Former-Member Your picture made me giggle. Are you joining in the great yoga adventure or are you one of the cheerleaders on the sidelines?

@Adge Yay for being a pigeon last Saturday. I hope you are able to get to your classes this week. It really is super calming isn't it. I'm so glad I FINALLY found the courage to start going to classes.

Ok, well tomorrow will be the last day of pigeoning. Let me know what you think about child's pose for next week @soul (or anyone else who wants to put forward ideas for a pose-for-the-week).

Happy yoga-ing.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Yep @Phoenix_Rising - let's go with Child's Pose. It's so restorative. We do it a lot after we've done some more challenging poses. The good thing about it is that it's so easy to do so we should get some more takers - let's hope anyway.

I think you really excelled with the Baby Goat giveaway promotion and now peeps have come to expect a bonus. It was such a good offer. I think the marketing department went a bit overboard. I mean a baby goat every day!!!! Perhaps they should have worked towards one to be given at the end of the week.

I am loving my goats though. Even if the pooch is a bit out of sorts about them. Just not sure what's going to happen when they mature and start breeding 😱

Re: The great yoga adventure

I pigeoned on the bed yesterday, everyone. There is no way that a real pigeon would be allowed inside my bedroom, let alone on the bed. But I realised I hadn't been a pigeon all day and was about to go to sleep, so just this once there was a pretend pigeon on the bed.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Hi @Phoenix_Rising and everyone 👋
I have been doing yoga most nights at home, which included the pigeon pose.
I hadn't done that pose for a very long time, so it stretched muscles I didn't know I had. 😀
The child's pose is very relaxing. 👍
