The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

I go to an assortment of classes @CheerBear - some are more dynamic than others. There are some where we mostly are on the floor. I wonder if anyone falls asleep at yoga 😆😴

I know you go to lots of different classes @soul, but I haven't heard you mention the type I go to yet 🙂 My class is definitely one you could fall asleep in. I've been tempted to lie under the yoga blanket, on the mat on a bolster and sleep for the session before 😛

Re: The great yoga adventure

Sounds like a relaxation class @CheerBear. They do hold them but I haven't been to one as the time doesn't suit. If you go to sleep, try not to snore at least.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Nope, definitely not a relaxation class @soul. But it is relaxing. I do a class specifically related to mental health stuff which suits me really well as I can get very slipped up with brain and rest of body things. I also have some mobility/movement issues which means modifying positions, which is very encouraged and supported in the class. As much as I'd like to do a 'normal' yoga class, I realise it would be a bit of a stretch (haha) for me at the moment.

I am off to bed now 🙂 Hope you have a good night and that whatever class you go to tomorrow is great for you!

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody, I have pigeoned today, have you?

@soul I am super glad you were able to return to your yoga studio today. I loved the picture you posted of the homing pigeon - it super made me giggle. Yes, I wonder who the die-hard yogis are. As fun as it was raising baby goats in my living room, I can't commit to such an adventure every week, so the only-doing-yoga-to-claim-a-reward crowd will have to wait a few weeks for the next give-away.

@CheerBear I'm sorry you were feeling too yuck to get to your yoga class today. I managed to get to mine this evening and definitely feel better for it. We used the bolster a lot this evening and it was pretty fun. I am so unco-ordinated moving it around. I always seem to have it behind me when it is supposed to be in front and vice-versa. @soul mentioned child's pose as another one we could try in our virtual class. Would that be a good on-the-floor one for next week?

Ok, well I will be pigeoning again tomorrow. I wonder who else might join me.

Have you seen the flying pigeon pose @Phoenix_Rising? It's crazy difficult.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody, I have pigeoned today, have you? @soul do you get the feeling that everybody is too busy tending to their baby goats to be yoga-ing this week. Hmmm...that wasn't the plan!

That flying pigeon pose does look insanely difficult. I am definitely a while away from being able to do that! I am still trying to do a handstand. I'm getting better. Now I manage to stay up for about five second every tenth attempt or so. Hey...have you done the crow pose in any of your classes? It is where you stand on your hands. We've done it in class twice and now I'm practicing it at home. I put a pillow in front of me to avoid face-planting into the floor. Face-planting into the pillow always makes me giggle.

Well I'm sure you've pigeoned today @soul...I'm not overly confident about anyone else around here right now though...and that's totally ok.

The class today was called Slow Flow @Phoenix_Rising@CheerBear@TheVorticon@Shaz51@Sans911 @Ant7@Adge@Maggie@Mazarita@Former-Member@Former-Member It consisted of series of poses that are somewhat intense at times although there are modifications. We did some of the old favourites - various styles of Warrior, Downward Dogs and Pigeons. We also did a kind of laying down Tree (much easier than the upright one)

And we did quite a bit of planking and twisting poses as well. I hope all my fellow yogis are well. Namaste.

Re: The great yoga adventure

The flying pigeon pose looks more like the falling out of the sky, crash and burn pigeon. I looked up the crow pose @Phoenix_Rising. Nope - we haven't done that one. Looks a bit more advanced. There are a couple of more challenging classes but I haven't been to those. I have started to do my hand weights exercises again so maybe that's something I can work up to. Of course there is the balance issue as well.

It is eerily quiet in our Forum Yoga Studio tonight. Maybe some of our yogis left their gates open and are chasing baby goats.
