Hey Life - give me a break.

Hey Life - give me a break.

@PeppiPatty - regarding my story - it probably warrants a thread of its own. Really needing my friends@Shaz51@Faith-and-Hope@Determined@Former-Member@Former-Member@Anony18@outlander@Former-Member @PhoenixRising @Former-Member

Sexually assaulted at age 13. Have never told my family.

Went to uni and moved away afterwards for work so fully independent then.

Came back to my home town after a couple of years.

Had a couple of serious relationships and ended up marrying a narcissist used car dealer (say no more) Basically raised my kids by myself. At 40, he had a fling with a married 19year old who already had a two year old child. He fathered a child with her and I found out some time later when I discovered he was paying child support payments. Stayed in this loveless marriage until the kids had finished school, then divorced which was nasty and I suffered financially big time. Had loaned his business money but didn't have anything legal drawn up. He also moved a lot of money around and had an overdraft on our home.

Got into a relationship with someone who was actually interested in me and shared common interests. It was the best and worst time of my life. He fits all the criteria of BPD. Moved interstate to be with him. The relationship became volatile and he physically assaulted me. This is when I became involved with this Forum. On one occasion, a neighbour called the police and he was arrested. They saw my injuries, he admitted guilt and he was imprisoned. I stood by him all during his incarceration, funding an appeal and he was released after eight months only to be deported as he wasn't an Australian citizen. I joined up with him overseas but the assaults continued. He got sporadic help for his MI but wasn't committed to getting better.

Eventually after yet another particularly bad assault and having the police involved, I returned to Australia and that was four and a half months ago. He appears to be serious about managing his condition now, taking medication, going to support and counselling sessions and hopes that I will return. However, all trust has been obliterated. We still have contact and that can get traumatic at times.

I started off on the Carers' side but find myself on the Lived Experience team as well. I have been having sessions with a psychologist.

Thrown into the mix is my own family. They don't know what I have been through. I used to care for my father and mother, used all my holiday and long service leave, taking time off work and eventually quitting so I could be there for them. Two of my siblings also live nearby but they were more concerned about building wealth than our parents' wellbeing so it was left to me. My father passed away and when I left to be with my partner, my mother's care was transferred to them. I feel they resented my decision but for the first time in my life I felt I was entitled to pursue happiness (not that it turned out that way) The sibs shut me out and when Mum passed away recently things went from bad to worse and as Executors of her will they scattered her ashes when and where they wanted without telling me and are responsible for distributing her estate however they see fit. There was no funeral or memorial service.

I live with my daughter and my son lives with his father. I love my kids with all my heart and live for them. I have a dog (actually my daughter's) who is my constant companion. I do a lot of walking and listening to music to escape the depressing thoughts I feel. I have no idea what to do with my life now and think it's all a cruel joke.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Hello @soul

haven't been over here for ages

I am narrowing the number of threads I visit regularly to assist in my fighting isolating myself

I went through "chronic trauma" latest label previously major ptsd

whatever name it was awful and has taken me a long time to progress...I had situation with my son worsen and this would have slowed the recovery..basically sent me back into fragments of myself

if and when you feel comfortable with your psychiatrist let him or her know that you want to talk about what happened..if necessary say that you need some help..be totally honest...checking how you feel re trust..this was important for me..I had gone backwards with psychologist and went back to psychiatrist whom I now still see.

sounds as though you might be ready to talk about that period

wishing you all the best. ...it is hard but worthwhile xx

ps I will try to pop over from time to time to check on you xx

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Thanks for checking in @Former-Member and for your advice. All our experiences are different as are the ways in which we try to cope. Do you try to push these things from your mind or are they then likely to pop up again and torment you? How do you know whether a trauma has been dealt with?

Maybe it's a case of building up enough goodness again that it is ineffectual if it does arise?

I know what you mean about limiting the threads. May have to do that myself as it can be overwhelming and very time consuming.

All the best for you.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Yes @soul you are correct in saying that each experience is different as are the people having them

I don't believe that they become dealt with

I believe that in discussing re-occurring feelings that might be related ..these feelings decrease in intensity

without knowing when exactly different feelings will rise to the surface ..being able to recognise, acknowledge and talk about them will help you moving forward

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Not doing so well today. Just had a big cry in the shower after drinking four glasses of wine. Feeling really down. Fathers Day tomorrow. Missing him. More than I am missing my mother even though she passed away just three months ago and he has been gone eight and a half years. He was the one who should have protected me. Mum just said "Are you happy?" "Yes" - I lied so as not to worry her. Thankfully she never knew. Dad was emotional distant butbtowards the end, so mellowed and loving. Hated saying goodbye, so appreciative every time I saw him. So sad towards the end though. Didn't want to be here. Begged me to do something. Heartbreaking. Mum had it easier - quick, painless.

The ex BPD who I loved and maybe still do inspite of everything. Was it his fault? How much do you blame MI? Could I have helped? Incommunicado again for two weeks. Are you okay I ask? No reply. He did it before. Said a silence doesn't mean he's had a meltdown. Well - what does it mean? Declares undying love but doesn't respond to a simple question or photos I send.

Says it's hard for him to write an email. WTF? How hard is it to say "I'm okay." Is this manipulation I wonder? Garnering more sympathy. Master of manipulation he was, taking advantage of my nurturing nature. I don't know. Today I message him that I am deleting the App. Can't stress anymore constantly checking to see if he has read my messages. He should have been asleep but he sees me writing. Writes back. I can't do this. App is gone. Says he will send email. Heard that before. Frequently disappointed. Trying not to expect anything.

Gutted that I lost him as a best friend when it wasn't bad. Shared everything, now nothing. @utopia - sorry, I know you have your own issues.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Hugs n hugs @soul .......

WH was different before and I miss him ...... who I have here now is not the him I used to know ...... it's like there is a new brother amongst them, like he has been replaced by an identical twin with a different personality and nature, value system ...... is this his fault ? No. Do I have to live with him as he is now ? No. Either I have to get some semblance of him back, or he has to change to a different form again, but this one I don't love .... have tried for 8 years now ..... and with this one there is no chemistry at all ......

You have to look after you Hon, and an emotionally abusive relationship has an attraction, a "bait" to it that keeps you coming back where you get a hook through the guts again ...... so hard to break away, and it will be hard to trust again, but have I told you the story about catching monkeys in Africa ?

Traditionally, the monkey hunters poke a hole into a giant ants nest only big enough for a monkey's hand to reach in. Then, in full view of the monkeys they poke some peanuts in there with a stick. When they go and hide, the monkeys come and stick their hand into the ant hill, grab hold of a peanut, but their closed fist is now to big to pull their hand back out ...... even when the hunters come back to capture them, they won't release the peanut and flee to safety.

We need to relinquish the peanut.

Then we will find something that we can enjoy freely, invest in, and not be caught by .....

I so feel for you ..... and the wine intensifies depression, but hopefully it will also help you to sleep and recover your equilibrium as well ......

Hugs n hugs Hon ...... 💜💜💜

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

I'll have those hugs @Faith-and-Hope. It's so hard to accept that I stuffed up once with my husband and then again. Sometimes I think I was better off in the marriage. At least the rift between my daughter and him may not have happened. Also I would have been financially secure as his mother is loaded. Foolishly I thought I could find love. What the hell is that?

Should have realised that the highs with the ex BPD were impossible to retain. And those lows - never knew lows could be that low and do so much damage. Collateral damage - that was what happened. I just hope with all I have, that my kids don't suffer how I have. How do they view relationships?

Not sure about monkeys and peanuts but I don't think they go through anywhere near the cr*p humans do. Who's smarter? How come humans are so messed up?

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Your relationship sounds so empty @Faith-and-Hope. Do you think that man will ever appear again? You have coping strategies so that's a good thing. When did the cracks start appearing? Do you ever think there was something you could have done? Had you known, what decision would you have made?

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Your relationship sounds so empty @Faith-and-Hope.

That's sure how it feels @soul ....

Do you think that man will ever appear again?

I hope so @soul, but I can't bank on it. S2 believes, as a result of his interactions with the pdoc that he will, but somewhat changed .... because you can't go through these sort of experiences without them changing you ....

You have coping strategies so that's a good thing. When did the cracks start appearing?

We have had struggles on and off, because I have in-laws with a vindictive, controlling nature. The real cracks started to appear with the eating disorder - this restrictive form of eating disorder, because WH had BED (Biinge Eating Disorder) for 25 years prior to swinging into this complex EDNOS (Wpeating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified), although it hasn't been formally diagnosed yet. It seems to have triggered what I am now understanding is probably a personality disorder that runs through his family, and now he is like them .... controlling and vindictive.

Do you ever think there was something you could have done?

No

Had you known, what decision would you have made?

I really don't know how to answer this because there was no possible way to know that this could trigger in him, and it might not have.

Have a commitment with the family now Hon .... might be back later if you're still up ....

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair @Faith-and-Hope. I guess we have to appreciate the smallest joy and keep our hope alive.

Thanks for your support tonight. It meant a lot to me and I felt a little less alone. Better try to get some sleep. Have taken Panodol and have a water bottle beside me, hoping not to wake up with a headache.

Take care 💕
