Hey Life - give me a break.

Hey Life - give me a break.

@PeppiPatty - regarding my story - it probably warrants a thread of its own. Really needing my friends@Shaz51@Faith-and-Hope@Determined@Former-Member@Former-Member@Anony18@outlander@Former-Member @PhoenixRising @Former-Member

Sexually assaulted at age 13. Have never told my family.

Went to uni and moved away afterwards for work so fully independent then.

Came back to my home town after a couple of years.

Had a couple of serious relationships and ended up marrying a narcissist used car dealer (say no more) Basically raised my kids by myself. At 40, he had a fling with a married 19year old who already had a two year old child. He fathered a child with her and I found out some time later when I discovered he was paying child support payments. Stayed in this loveless marriage until the kids had finished school, then divorced which was nasty and I suffered financially big time. Had loaned his business money but didn't have anything legal drawn up. He also moved a lot of money around and had an overdraft on our home.

Got into a relationship with someone who was actually interested in me and shared common interests. It was the best and worst time of my life. He fits all the criteria of BPD. Moved interstate to be with him. The relationship became volatile and he physically assaulted me. This is when I became involved with this Forum. On one occasion, a neighbour called the police and he was arrested. They saw my injuries, he admitted guilt and he was imprisoned. I stood by him all during his incarceration, funding an appeal and he was released after eight months only to be deported as he wasn't an Australian citizen. I joined up with him overseas but the assaults continued. He got sporadic help for his MI but wasn't committed to getting better.

Eventually after yet another particularly bad assault and having the police involved, I returned to Australia and that was four and a half months ago. He appears to be serious about managing his condition now, taking medication, going to support and counselling sessions and hopes that I will return. However, all trust has been obliterated. We still have contact and that can get traumatic at times.

I started off on the Carers' side but find myself on the Lived Experience team as well. I have been having sessions with a psychologist.

Thrown into the mix is my own family. They don't know what I have been through. I used to care for my father and mother, used all my holiday and long service leave, taking time off work and eventually quitting so I could be there for them. Two of my siblings also live nearby but they were more concerned about building wealth than our parents' wellbeing so it was left to me. My father passed away and when I left to be with my partner, my mother's care was transferred to them. I feel they resented my decision but for the first time in my life I felt I was entitled to pursue happiness (not that it turned out that way) The sibs shut me out and when Mum passed away recently things went from bad to worse and as Executors of her will they scattered her ashes when and where they wanted without telling me and are responsible for distributing her estate however they see fit. There was no funeral or memorial service.

I live with my daughter and my son lives with his father. I love my kids with all my heart and live for them. I have a dog (actually my daughter's) who is my constant companion. I do a lot of walking and listening to music to escape the depressing thoughts I feel. I have no idea what to do with my life now and think it's all a cruel joke.

@soul. 'climbed a mountain' wow! I'm impressed! I know what you mean about the bush being peaceful too. Even just being outside for me. Yesterday I walked the block for the first time in ages.

Glad you were onto that car, sounds like a potential lemon. I have found toyota to be easiest gamble with cars.

You'll on w when itscright to return to work. Amazing you even tried. Glad your confidence got a boost. Putting family first is important.

You seem to have a levelheaded approach - well done 🏆

Love it when I'm awake this time of day, when daylight is just breaking through. Might duck over the Good Morning thread, try get in first for a change.

Missed you this last week, hope I haven't put my foot in it? I do get distracted sorry. .

You have a good day today 🙂 🌷🌿

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Thanks @Former-Member - got in early on the Good Morning. It's rubbish day and the garbage trucks are out and about, dogs barking. It's pretty cold but I'll get up soon and brace the elements. Once I'm moving, it's not so bad.

Looked at another car yesterday but although it wasn't very old, it had little scrapes and scratches here and there. I'll keep searching.

Feeling the effects of my mountain walk now. I'm used to walking on flat terrain and can do so for hours and hours.

Have a great day too.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Today whilst walking back from Woolies, I came upon an accident literally seconds after it happened. A cyclist and a car had collided. A woman was lying on the road conscious but blood pooling from beneath her, the motorist just exiting his car, people calling an ambulance.

There was nothing I could do so I shakily walked on. As I entered my street, I heard the siren of the ambulance. I came home but have not stopped thinking about it all day. It triggered memories of my final assault. I have never spoken about it with anyone in detail only told those who needed to know that it happened.

Does it help to recount trauma? I had a few therapy sessions when I arrived back in Australia but what actually happened was never brought up in counselling.

The situation today was probably exacerbated by the fact that after two and a half weeks of no contact I emailed my ex BPD partner last night telling him what I could see no future for us and that his emails were too overwhelming for me. They are full of bringing up all the good memories and how he will never give up trying to win back my trust.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Depends if you feel you need to talk about the trauma @soul to deal with the victim blaming /guilt but in the case today, think the situation just triggered the PTDS from your own trauma. It's hard ,we all know here but I think it's similar to my depression and anxiety it can happen in a instinct. On my walk this afternoon ,it's like when I would fall over , hurt your knee when you were a child,or it's like someone has h** me in the back of the head, all of a sudden I got distressed and wished I was d***.You just today had the right conditions with last night's emails, then in that situation you came across the feelings of helplessness and the trauma of that experience.

Sometimes I think my dog is the best therapy. She was just a puppy when my father passed away. She just lay next to me on the bed and I cried and cried into her fur. Same as when my Mum passed away last month. She's here with me now as well. On the sofa on this quiet Saturday night by ourselves.

She doesn't judge, I can tell her things and she just listens. And when I am in too deep a funk, she lifts me by demanding a pat or walk or treat.

Aren't dogs amazing @soul

During one of my darlings earlier hospital admissions our boy who never comes inside came over 2 barricades and lay beside me while I was asleep on the couch. This happened 2 or 3 times. He has never done it again. I was a complete mess at the time and waking up with his head under my hand gave me a much needed boost.

I had actually fogotten about it until reading your post just now. Makes me want to go out and give him a big hug and a pat. Extra eggs on his breakfast in the morning ☺

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

@soul, can you talk here about the traumacthat has surfaced from the past? Without going too deep at first perhaps. I still haven't had therapy about the night my girl died. Ambulances, sirens still trigger me, especially if I wake up to them. I think we have to let it be, work through it and not push it down. When feelings are intense I automatically breathe deep, acknowledge it, honour the part, my part that needs to be acknowledged, tell myself it will pass. Sometimes I need to do x5senses grounding exercises, smells and touch most affective for me. Its a ptsd thing (varying degrees). Talking about it with the wrong person can be problematic, but worth a try. Isn't there assault trauma PHONE counselling? People are not always available - I journal and work event through CBT questions. And inner healing (God went through it with you, talk to Him).
Hope I've made sense, you be kind to yourself this next few days. Hugz💜

The sensations are so vivid. Thinking I wasn't going to survive. The pain and feeling of blood flowing down my face, the police eventually finding me in the locked bathroom, the trip in the ambulance, being in the emergency department of a public hospital in a third world country with staff who spoke hardly any English. Feeling so weak and tired and crushed.
