Hey Life - give me a break.

Hey Life - give me a break.

@PeppiPatty - regarding my story - it probably warrants a thread of its own. Really needing my friends@Shaz51@Faith-and-Hope@Determined@Former-Member@Former-Member@Anony18@outlander@Former-Member @PhoenixRising @Former-Member

Sexually assaulted at age 13. Have never told my family.

Went to uni and moved away afterwards for work so fully independent then.

Came back to my home town after a couple of years.

Had a couple of serious relationships and ended up marrying a narcissist used car dealer (say no more) Basically raised my kids by myself. At 40, he had a fling with a married 19year old who already had a two year old child. He fathered a child with her and I found out some time later when I discovered he was paying child support payments. Stayed in this loveless marriage until the kids had finished school, then divorced which was nasty and I suffered financially big time. Had loaned his business money but didn't have anything legal drawn up. He also moved a lot of money around and had an overdraft on our home.

Got into a relationship with someone who was actually interested in me and shared common interests. It was the best and worst time of my life. He fits all the criteria of BPD. Moved interstate to be with him. The relationship became volatile and he physically assaulted me. This is when I became involved with this Forum. On one occasion, a neighbour called the police and he was arrested. They saw my injuries, he admitted guilt and he was imprisoned. I stood by him all during his incarceration, funding an appeal and he was released after eight months only to be deported as he wasn't an Australian citizen. I joined up with him overseas but the assaults continued. He got sporadic help for his MI but wasn't committed to getting better.

Eventually after yet another particularly bad assault and having the police involved, I returned to Australia and that was four and a half months ago. He appears to be serious about managing his condition now, taking medication, going to support and counselling sessions and hopes that I will return. However, all trust has been obliterated. We still have contact and that can get traumatic at times.

I started off on the Carers' side but find myself on the Lived Experience team as well. I have been having sessions with a psychologist.

Thrown into the mix is my own family. They don't know what I have been through. I used to care for my father and mother, used all my holiday and long service leave, taking time off work and eventually quitting so I could be there for them. Two of my siblings also live nearby but they were more concerned about building wealth than our parents' wellbeing so it was left to me. My father passed away and when I left to be with my partner, my mother's care was transferred to them. I feel they resented my decision but for the first time in my life I felt I was entitled to pursue happiness (not that it turned out that way) The sibs shut me out and when Mum passed away recently things went from bad to worse and as Executors of her will they scattered her ashes when and where they wanted without telling me and are responsible for distributing her estate however they see fit. There was no funeral or memorial service.

I live with my daughter and my son lives with his father. I love my kids with all my heart and live for them. I have a dog (actually my daughter's) who is my constant companion. I do a lot of walking and listening to music to escape the depressing thoughts I feel. I have no idea what to do with my life now and think it's all a cruel joke.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

@soul, from this new perspective I have a lot of questions. I need a specialist to tell me whether OCPD is on a spectrum ,which is why it wasn't obvious before, and whether it has been triggered from a somewhat dormant state.

Perhaps I was the fact that he was a workaholic spending very little real time with us, and even then under exciting holiday circumstances, but his day-to-day was spent in the company of his OCPD family within their own world view .....

Without the workaholism, and without the family business keeping them in each other's company so much, did we stand a chance of this not triggering and taking over our lives ? I don't know the answers to any of this ..... and I don't yet have the specialist I can ask. While he is very supportive, and I recognised from the outset that me attending a psychologist gave me future advocacy through him, he is clearly beyond his realm of expertise in understanding just how complex WH's disorders are .....

When you have the triage nurse of an eating disorders inpatient hospital bamboozled with descriptions of what we are living with, and not having witnessed anywhere near the extremes of some of his behaviours, you know you are way out in a field of your own.....

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

"whateverthehellelse" - that's a tricky condition to have @Faith-and-Hope. If you want to stay in a relationship which has these sorts of issues, I think the key is to develop your own interests and take care of your own needs otherwise your own mental health suffers even more.

My fear over staying in a loveless marriage was that the kids would see this as the norm. It was one thing to say that Mum and Dad slept in separate rooms because Dad snores when they were younger but they soon pick up the vibes. I didn't want them to miss out on the wonderful benefits that having a partner can bring. I'm yet to discover that (maybe I never will)

Ironically that loveless marriage situation was what I grew up witnessing.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

The "lovelessness" is only recent to the last two years for us @soul ..... and I would have put it down to numbness and disengagement rather than loveless per se ..... but if this illness has transformed my WH into someone who can't love me, and has emotionally abandoned me in this state, I don't have enough glue to hold this together as a marriage. There may be enough mutual respect to co-parent, but even then I think he will need parenting classes to give us all boundaries for these OCPD tendencies. They have been driving too hard to be able to live with, so if that is what we have ongoing and he is unable to moderate ..... that is what will dictate our future choices.

Have to see what therapy and medication can achieve yet, but that is going to have to take the surfacing of the e.d. .... and we haven't got that far yet.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Seems like a very slow process @Faith-and-Hope - hang in there. Hoping that there's a light at the end of this dark tunnel for you. Having the family drama to contend with as well doesn't help things.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

It's been eight years coming to this @soul ..... watching my family implode and privacy laws preventing me from speaking up about what was happening and why we are all progressively going down like dominos ..... but if I had left by the time Inrealised we were in trouble, we would have encountered a firestorm that took us down faster .... the kids and I have no doubt of that.

It's so painful ..... I have to keep myself numbed out against it, and that is what has happened now to S2 ..... he has collapsed i to anxiety and depression under the strain of combatting WH's behaviour as he has endeavoured to micro-manage him with controlling and emotionally abusive behaviour, then switching to excessive rewarding ..... all under control issues of phone tracking and cameras. We are living a strange alternative reality without the ability to say so to anyone who could change it.

We are in the position to now, but the Anosognosia means we can't disturb WH's reality by exposing his behaviours outright in front of him, at risk of psychological danger to him and the kids, and we don't know what his reaction would be once we left the therapist's office. It's not safe.

I am having to talk about him, and allude carefully to the problem behaviours, in front of him ..... hoping I can ring enough alarm bells for the therapists to be able to take it up and find out the true extent of It for themselves.

Did I mention this is excruciating ??

The extended family dramas are a whole other story ..... they have been there from the outset of our marriage, but WH's illness has caused him to exchange our marital relationship for a dysfunctional bonding with MIL who is enabling the e.d. and ocpd, being affected by both herself. Think a SsIL has an e.d. too .... but that is not my circus, not my monkeys ......

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

It sounds like you are holding up a fortress Faith and Hope for your husband designed to keep him and you safe, but the foundations are unstable with cracks developing everyday.

I am not one who is into groups anymore, but I am very withdrawn at the moment, another day where I didn't go for a walk,no interest, give up and got a bad head. The doctor started taking blood pressure yesterday but told me to ignore it but I could see it was high due to my anxiety the past two weeks.Had a head last night as well.

I have no energy for people, talked to someone the other day who I didn't know but when he said who he was he is the partner of someone I worked with and know is the biggest gossip. He referred to my mental state one stage, didn't quite catch it but got it if you know what I mean. Can't handle that side of human behavior when I have had struggles no one understands. Also don't see the need of it.

My mother is probably in the same area as your husband, suffocates me and won't let me go anywhere on my own to breathe. She is failing in health, and even though I love her, after my four years of counseling and selling the family farm to get my own life,I'm in a worse position than ever. She is 50% of my anxiety, rest is unemployment,no money,no life, nothing to keep going for.Asked doctor for v***** yesterday but against them one reason is I fear I will use them to help SC when my anxiety and hopelessness is high.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Yeah @Former-Member .... I have ended up holding up the fortress while yelling for help and nobody can hear me ..... cracks are everywhere .... if the counsellors don't step up to help us, they will be managing the aftermath. The pdoc is there for our S2, he says, but S2 can't get better till they stop who keeps knocking S2's feet out from under him .... :face_with_rolling_eyes:😱

I had a gorgeous mum @Former-Member, but lost her too soon. My MIL is like your mum, and acting like Head Wife here ..... so much mess in eight years ..... and all the e.d. websites say that early intervention achieves the best chance of a good outcome, then the laws prevent intervention ..... something has gotta change here !

Is it cold and rainy where you are too ?

It sucks that your siblings won't get involved to help with your mum @Former-Member. Are there any respite services available for her for a few days ? We have a family friend who sold her house and moved in with her niece and husband so she wouldn't have to go into aged care, giving them the proceeds of her house sale as finance for her support. Niece and husband have gone on repeated holidays, landing her in respite aged care while they are away, then leaving her home alone a lot when they are here ....

She has found that she enjoys the activities and company available to her in the aged care facility .....

Some people just have no respect for others, don't they ? Maybe your mum would enjoy some company of others her own age, games of Bingo and the like ? It's actually you I'm thinking of ....

💐💕

Eight years is a long time @Faith-and-Hope. Has there been many ups and downs? So you think that this is the do or die moment? I'm sad that your son had been collateral damage in all this.

These privacy guidelines seem so counterproductive. Surely the psych would want to know your take on matters. I just don't get it.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

The soap opera that is my story. After blocking the messaging, I received seven emails yesterday. Ranging from how he is totally devastated, how sorry he is, look at this funny picture and lastly a sexually explicit one.

Today - no communication at all. Seen this before - bombardment with messages conveying a whole range of demeanours including comments like "how could you...?" and insults (splitting behaviours) Then when that doesn't work, it's a period of no messaging hoping that I will be worried about him and respond.

It gets so tiring and frustrating. I thought about writing to him about boundaries but there's the very real possibility he would just see it as me trying to control him (which is kind of weird since that is what he did all the time to me) - projecting his BPD traits onto me. Alternately he may totally agree with me in an attempt to get me back communicating with him but not really be of that opinion at all.

Feeling that if we could cut through all the bullsh*t, there could be some possibility of friendship but most of the time I think dealing with a chameleon is just too hard. "One last chance, you won't regret it" - pffft!!!!
