Struggling to Survive

Struggling to Survive

When life has no meaning, no purpose - it is a constant struggle to confront each new day and manage to ‘function’. Detachment from reality is my best defence. Without the emotional connections I am able to survive. The smallest of distractions can send me into a spiral that leads to unwanted and harmful thoughts. Feelings become amplified to the point of physical discomfort. The world closes in and seems to trap me in a never ending dark spiral. I can’t see the way out as I am tossed and turned, battered and bruised. The wounds are internalised and the struggle continues!

So I need to be alone as that is my only certainty for being safe – safe from disappointment, safe from conflict, safe from being let down, safe from violence, safe from further hurt. But when there are few distractions and your mind has time on its own to think, the freedom of space begins to close in. When you realise that the only people in the world that actually know you exist and care about you are the ones that you are isolating yourself from then the heartache and loneliness is magnified. If I was one cube of ice in an avalanche nobody would see me – it would make no difference if I were not there – the avalanche would continue regardless. I am one tiny, insignificant part of the universe that would soon be forgotten – in the wider scheme of life – I may as well not exist!

Thank you @CatrionaB I think everyone else may have logged off for tonight. I really want to sleep but as per usual that seems unlikely

Re: Struggling to Survive

Sleeping isnt easy, do you have any ideas about to relax and get ready for bed?

Re: Struggling to Survive

No @CatrionaB - bed is often a major trigger - not going to explain - too hard.

@Former-Member GN1 is being tested tonight

Re: Struggling to Survive

@CatrionaB I know it is hard to know what the right thing is or is not to say when you don't know someone or their sitution - so I will try to fill you in a little on why sleeping is so hard for me.

The biggest 'issue' I face (amongmany others) is sleep. I don't generally sleep more than a few hours at a time - and some nights I don't sleep at all. This is because of trauma which occurred whilst I was asleep and then woken. I have flashbacks even when thinking about sleeping or bed. When I do sleep I have nightmares. This has been going on for many, many years and as yet we have not found anything that can help. Basically I don't want to sleep because I not only have nightmares but I think I won't wake up - but I also wish most nights that I could get to sleep and never wake up. Just writing this now is making me feel sick - so I better stop there!

Re: Struggling to Survive

Most of the weekday mods are aware of my 'history' and know most nights are simply about getting through them @CatrionaB They are never easy - even when I am so exhausted I can't keep my eyes open I still have to deal with the nightmares and often 'waking up' not knowing where I am, not being able to breathe, feeling sick and very disorientated. It takes some time to calm down and feel even a little bit safe. These are also the most dangerous times for me also because I am morelikely to want the pain to stop and don't care how that happens.

Re: Struggling to Survive

Tonight is getting harder and harder by the minute I want my mind to stop, the flashbacks to stop, and sleep! Over and over and over - images I can't get out of my head, feelings I can't escape - nothing is helping at all

These nights need to stop - I can't take it anymore. Hours and hours alone, with no hope, no solutions and nothing to look forward to. I have said it before but will say it again - I would be soon forgotten if I was not around! In time all that would be let of me was a distant memory.

Tonight I am 'seeing' my own distant memories - and they are not ones I can forget but I wish so much that I could! Life isn't supposed to be this way and I don't think I can do it much more!
