Oh wow @Former-Member - no wonder you have done so much research into suicide - I read a post of yours some days back - about suicide - it gave me a lot to think about so I didn't remark on it at the time
You have had a lot to cope with and deal with and reflect upon - and you are right - there is a lot of MI in your family - or I should say - seems to be - and your parents are in denial and your father is an aggressive alcoholic - that is a rough way to have a family - no wonder dazed.........
I just saw something on Dr Phil about teenage suicide - and that was hard to sit through it but my hard dates have passed for now and it wasn't triggering - but you first attempted at 14 - that is so young - and as it was your first there seems there must have been more - I really care about that.
My son died 31 years ago now - it can be very raw at times - esp in the middle of winter - passed this year now - and around the date of his adoption rather than his birthday - but it does get easier - I promise you
And for your dear friend's family and for your family in the UK - yes - really hard - and it has to be comforting for them that you listen
But care for yourself too - helping other people is a great way to help with a loss but we have lost too - you have had a lot of loss in your life - so today - people tell me this - I don't know if it helps - but try and do something nice for yourself
All the best and keep posting - this is a great place and a safe place

Hi again @Former-Member
You haven't said anything harmful - quite the opposite - very helpful. I have done a lot of research into Youth Suicide myself - most of it a long time ago - and I wrote a long submission to the Task Force into Youth Suicide in 1996 - what I wrote was so well received I was asked to speak at a conference and so y name appears twice in the publications I was sent on the subject
I was not suicidal but I did have short stays in a private psyche clinic when my son was alive and I was stressed out with his really bad behaviour - my parents were not interested and would not see me - I understand that you have no support and I do understand that - it's not reasonable - and not at all helpful but I am not sure that people with that mindset will change - my parents have passed now - natural causes - old age
For mean time has made things easier - however I never ever was on friendly terms with my mother - my father - yes - I am glad to say. I don't want to write details on my son's life - I write a little about his breaking the law etc and where he died - but mostly I let people know a little so they know I understand. I can hear you - and I think writing about it here is a good thing for you - people here are wonderfully helpful
I am enjoying this conversation too - what have you to hang onto? That is hard to answer but returning to more education is something I found really wonderful - it kept me going through the darkest times of my life. I already had an accounting diploma I got when I went to night-school when I was still in my teens and that was a good start - and I went back to school and finished my HSC and then went to University and got an Honours Degree - I had to work so I studied part-time and it took 12 years
Through all this time I had all sorts of tough life things to deal with and people wanted me to stop studying but I didn't - I have done a lot of short courses too - I seemed to have a bright light within me and my studies kept me going
I think I saw that you might think of studying somewhere else in the forum - it's a good idea to follow up
All the best with that
