Caring for a wife with Borderline Personality Disorder- Sequel to Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family.

This discussion is a follow on from my previous thread Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family, a thread I started when my wife was admitted to hospital for the third time in 6 months and when everything around me seemed to be falling apart. It was a space where I could vent and express my emotions and helped me to process a particularly difficult time not only in my own life but for our family and helped me to hold myself together in order to support my family. For that I am most grateful.

Those of you who were following our journey will know that on my darlings return home I have been encouraged by my councillor to implement some loving boundaries, (lovingly implemented guidelines, not as rules to be enforced), and some self-care for myself.

Now that my darling is home the purpose of this new thread is to document our journey of healing and implementing new boundaries and commitment to self-care, not only so that I can have a visual plan for myself (a bit of self-accountability to follow through with plans in place) but in the hope that it may help others processing similar trials. It will also be an opportunity to track our progress over time.

@Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member

S1 seems to be ok today, he just needs to take it easy with some of his activities, which being a boy has not been totally successful. Just a watch and wait at the moment but possible surgery in the future if the problem recurs.

@Former-Member haven't forgotten about my promise of a response, 2 - 3 hours sleep on Monday and only 4-5 last night feeling a bit ordinary and want it to b a considered and balanced response. Going out again tonight. Not really up for it but hoping for some benifit.

@Former-Member finally I get a chance to reply to your message. I wanted it to be a thoughtful response not an emotional one that was negative against my darling. The way I have been feeling it could have easily turned into an angry rant.

Well I tried but unfortunately even with time taken to consider and reflect on a reply it has still turned out to be far too negative so I will just leave it at that, not a reflection on you at all or your opinion just I don't want to be too negative about my darling or our marriage.., especially at the moment.

I was seeing a councillor whom I thought was of great benefit but she is concerned that because she has not solved my issues in the magic 6 visits that she cant help me. I explained that having someone to talk things through with was a huge pressure relief and assisted me to function but she thinks I need to be 'self sufficient' and concerned she cant help me with that... can anyone as long as I am in my current environment? Leaving is never going to be an option so where does that leave me??. Ahhhhhh!!!!!!

I have an appointment with my gp on Monday to discuss my options. I want to give mp pdoc the flick also I have lost confidence in his motives. Need to make sure gp can helpmout with essential meds first.

Thank you again for your thoughts .

@Determined

Please do not ever feel pressured to repli especially when you are already under extreme stress with your family..

I also can understand that you are having negative thoughts after such a lengthy ordeal...you are human...your feelings are valid...you are acknowledging them rather than not facing them which is a positive step moving forward..

I don't want to sound disrespectful ...a counsellor who expects every individual to be "fine" after 6 weeks is quite frankly useless in my book..

yes get another referral elsewhere..

hope that your son settles..

wishing for you some special determined space...time out...long walk...bike ride...whatever you prefer connecting with nature..

You are working so very hard at this...be proud of what you are experiencing and just how much you are achieving even though at times it does not feel as though you are making any headway

take care

@Former-Member

No preassure to respond, I just didnt want you to feel disregard, I value the feedback of everyone on the forums, just sometimes it is hard to respond without being negative about my darling. Trying hard to focus on only the positives at the moment.

Last night was my first ok night @Former-Member, and today has been the firsr day I have not had a splitting headache. Had to have a sleep after lunch, fatigue and the stress of last couple weeks has caught up with me. Hoping for a decent night tonight.

Trust all is going well for you and Mr Darcy.

You are going through a really tough time @Determined. I think it’s good though that you’re acknowledging the resentment you feel, as I’ve found that festers if you don’t. It’s lovely to hear ‘I love you’ and I hope you’re hearing it too, which you also need.
