Caring for a wife with Borderline Personality Disorder- Sequel to Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family.

Caring for a wife with Borderline Personality Disorder- Sequel to Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family.

This discussion is a follow on from my previous thread Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family, a thread I started when my wife was admitted to hospital for the third time in 6 months and when everything around me seemed to be falling apart. It was a space where I could vent and express my emotions and helped me to process a particularly difficult time not only in my own life but for our family and helped me to hold myself together in order to support my family. For that I am most grateful.

Those of you who were following our journey will know that on my darlings return home I have been encouraged by my councillor to implement some loving boundaries, (lovingly implemented guidelines, not as rules to be enforced), and some self-care for myself.

Now that my darling is home the purpose of this new thread is to document our journey of healing and implementing new boundaries and commitment to self-care, not only so that I can have a visual plan for myself (a bit of self-accountability to follow through with plans in place) but in the hope that it may help others processing similar trials. It will also be an opportunity to track our progress over time.

Our weekend went ok here, my darling managed her home visit better than expected. She was disappointed to have to go back to the hospital but coped better and with less tears than last week, an indication that things are improving.

She is hoping to be discharged at the end of this week but will have to wait and see. Moved out of the high care area into a normal room tonight, that was encouraging.

Trust things are well as can be for you all.

Happy to hear that @Determined. Hopefully there will be a proper discharge plan in place. How's the rest of your life treating you? Did you manage to get on top of your uni stuff? Are the boys okay?

Another busy week ahead @soul, didn't get my report finished unfortunately, just had to upload what was done. Should be good for a pass I hope.

Hard to say how the boys are doing, they are hiding their emotions well. They did enjoy having mummy home for the weekend but wouldn't come with us to take her back go the hospital, stayed with nan and pop instead. S2 has another councilling appointment tomorrow, I wont be in this one so a little anxious for him.

The last couple of weeks have been especially stressful @Determined so for you to submit anything is pretty good I reckon.

Its was a wise thing that your boys didn't go to the hospital for your Darling's return. May have been too emotional for all concerned. Hope S2's counselling session goes well. Does he seem to have a rapport with the therapist?

Wishing you a good week.

Therapist has connected well with S2 @soul she's a bit goofy but I think that has worked in her favor as he likes her. Seems to have more idea than the last one I took him to see.

That sounds promising @Determined. He may open up more this time by himself. Even though it will be hard, have trust in the process and try not to intrude. Perhaps some general comment such as "I hope the session went well" not a barrage of 20 questions.

Darling saw the pdoc today and she is coming home on Thursday 😞

I don't know why it couldn't wait until the weekend but again she is working on her own agenda with little regard for how timing affects everyone around her. She has even arranged for a friend to pick her up because I could not get there early enough for her. Feeling guilty but I am more than a little stressed and resentful that she wont work with me to make the transition easier for all of us. I am happy she will be home its just very poor timing with all we have going on. Also it would have been nice if I could have been the one to pick her up.

I am happy she will be home just stressed and anxious how it wil all go. And I wont be around to keep an eye on her on Friday as I have to work.
