Caring for a wife with Borderline Personality Disorder- Sequel to Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family.

This discussion is a follow on from my previous thread Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family, a thread I started when my wife was admitted to hospital for the third time in 6 months and when everything around me seemed to be falling apart. It was a space where I could vent and express my emotions and helped me to process a particularly difficult time not only in my own life but for our family and helped me to hold myself together in order to support my family. For that I am most grateful.

Those of you who were following our journey will know that on my darlings return home I have been encouraged by my councillor to implement some loving boundaries, (lovingly implemented guidelines, not as rules to be enforced), and some self-care for myself.

Now that my darling is home the purpose of this new thread is to document our journey of healing and implementing new boundaries and commitment to self-care, not only so that I can have a visual plan for myself (a bit of self-accountability to follow through with plans in place) but in the hope that it may help others processing similar trials. It will also be an opportunity to track our progress over time.

Understanding your anxiety over this situation @Determined. It should have been handled so much better. Hope the meds kick in and things improve for you and the whole family.

If your tablet doesn't seem to want to charge @Determined, try holding down the buttons for an extended length of time - like 30 secs or so. it happened to my phone once because it was dead flat and this worked.

You will get through this although I really find the lack of inclusion in your Darling's treatment you are experiencing to be so disrespectful and counter productive.

Sending you good thoughts today.

Thanks @soul
I was feeling a lot calmer when I woke this morning after a good sleep but can feel the anxiety building again trying to fit anything in. Dont know what happened last night. Went to sleep ok first up even though I was stressed. But woke after a couplenof hours in a panic attack.
Just being able to say what was on my mind enabled me to get back to sleep again and get a proper rest. Thakful for that because I needed it for today.

I am genuinely happy and excited and happy to have my darling home ao soon. It is just the timing and process that is making me anxious.
It would have been so much more convenient for my darling to come home tomorrow.
They are not waiting for her bed for someome else.
I have to make the drive down there again anyway tomorrow for more appointments for myself.
We could have had our group meeting with the pdoc as an inpatient at bo cost (health insurance would have c6obdref it.
If wr do take this appoijtment today ut will be a rush ro get back in time adding unnecessary stress onnboth of us.
And I would not have missed an entire day of study when I am already a week behind.

Sometimes it's hard to tame our subconscious mind @Determined.

Glad you're feeling a bit more at peace this morning. All the best. Really hope it goes as well as can be for you.

Unfortunately my darling is being a little selfish in all of this and I am trying to find a balance and show compassion. She did want to and could have come home yeaterday but I simply said no I have a class and at keast that was respected and I am thankful that that was accepted.

Well we are home.
I arrived at the hospital this morning to find my darling happier than I have seen her in a long time 😆

And we were able to see the pdoc in town here on our way home for a bulk billed appointment. A couple of her nurses were urging her that it was in her best interests.

Pdoc said a couple things and asked some questions that amazed me but the outcome is that we have a plan in place. All things that seemed obvious to him but I needed clarity on so I can act sooner. Was not a difficult process so I really dont understand why it had to be so hard to get it to happen. With out the support of the nurses it would not have.

Probably the nurses helped out because I mentioned to one of them how upset I was that I was not being listened to. She was amazed that it was not in place already. So big thankyou to the awesome nurses at the private hospital.

While she was excited when I arrived to pock her up my darling was getting more anxious as we got closer to home but managed to keep a lid on it when we got home. Evidence that our new boundaries are starting to take effect.

Even Pdoc mentioned the difference between yesterday afternoon and this morning re the increased anxiety. Oblivious to the fact that the change was in the space of an hour. All is well at the moment though. I am most thankful for the so far smooth transition to home.

Also the lady I used to work with has been in constant contact and looking to catch up soon. This has had a huge positive outcome for my darlings emotional state. Just knowing that someone cares and looking for a friendship without any conditions.
