Grief & loss - may be triggering

Grief & loss - may be triggering

@ lapses
Early last year 2016 my Dad died after a long painful illness (cancer), which he had been fighting for 6 years.

He survived that long only because of continuous treatments, otherwise he would have been gone in 6 months (they said).

My relationship with him had been somewhat distant at times - due my living in a different state from my entire family for the past 22 years.

Also due to my tumultuous upbringing & family background - which is why I could not stay in the city where I grew up, & chose to live here (3000 kilometres away) instead.

Also wanting to start anew 22 years ago, with needs for greater independence.

Yet those hopes to start a family of my own have never been realized. My marriage ended abruptly, & took my cherished plans & hopes for the future with it.

Then I was confronted with the memories of my SA only 3 months after the end of my marriage - which again turned my life upside-down. My gender identity was shaken, & I no longer felt secure with the sense of identity that I once had.

Followed by a severe health emergency - with 2 emergency bowel surgeries, a stoma & bag for 6 months.

Then a 3rd major bowel surgery to try to put things back together. I almost died twice in hospital they told me.

My siblings & I had found Dad to be emotionally distant & scary right into our adult lives - yet in the last few years we found him to be a kind, intelligent & very caring man. So it was so much harder to lose him.

Due to the stress of having to find a new job, having complex PTSD, & not coping well with the conditions of this occupation (carer) - I've been unable to effectively come to terms with my grief & loss.

It seems that my grief has been largely on hold for the past 14 months since Dad died. I don't feel in touch with it, despite my best efforts to.

I see a psychologist, yet we've been unable to do grief work, or help me to come to terms with the loss of my Dad.

I've remembered very little about him in the past year, which makes it harder - as I have so few memories to draw upon.

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Hello ❤❤❤
Yesteday while waiting at a counter to be served I experienced what's best described as a "Grief Wave" for my girl
It may have been the background music at the quiet specialist medical centre (with dad), or I think something else in the atmosphere, but starting in my solar plexus / heart - oh my heart aches for my girl... and the wave pushes up to make tears. If it were any stronger I'd collapse to the floor... but guess the x5 earth senses are strong for survival... Fortunately the wave was brief. No, i do not despise the wave for it comes also to remind me of a great love... my gift... I don't 'feel' this for my mum yet... but maybe its all linked somehow. Much of the connection with my dad is lost too, though he lives, and my son is angry with me atm over the actions of another he blames me for (a misunderstanding). I love ppl, and grieve the hole they leave in my heart, be it from a living loss, or another world... it still hurts 😢

Thanks foe listening - Just had to tell someone all that...

Think i'm gonna go grab a coffee & chocolate now ☕🍫

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Still gotcha @Former-Member

I know what you are talking about

Grief is different for everyone and the tracks through our own grief and losses are woven into their own stories and yes - I have found one will trigger another and the heart feels as if it can stand this anymore

I get it - your girl died 6 years ago and it seems no one in your dysfunctional family gave a damn - I had pretty much the same but I have had longer to place it in a safe place but yes - it gets to me like that sometimes

And now your Mum and the differences in the family - crappy sibs - bossy TS - are you sure you haven't got my TS perhance - I haven't heard anything from her lately - maybe she's doing a shift in your family right now - (tee hee)

And TS is in a hurry to garner what little wealth your family has left and btw - how far can that spread between 6 of your?

And your Dad is drifting away - and that is a loss and you know he has to leave soon so yes

If I heard a certain song - I can't think of it right now but I am sure there is one around - I would get that feeling in my heart too - I understand

So - I keep thinking about this - I want to tell you and keep telling you - the grief you have for your girl is normal - horrible but normal - and it is not a mental illness - it can take years to have a sense of balance but there will still be days - it's early days yet - and yes - your depression has a dx I am sure but this doesn't make you incompent

Actions speak louder than words - your caring for your parents through the time I have known you and now - your Dad - says so much and through the clatter and clutter of what your sister is doing - I have learned so much about what she has done - not what I could hear but yeah -

Sending more love and prayers my special friend - our lives are oddly similar

Care for yourself through all of this - it must seem as if the puzzle is never-ending but this too shall pass

@Former-Member

You are being so courageous through such painful times..

spiritual moments with your girl..painful and and a blessing at the same time..

you have not had the space to be able to grieve for your mum whilst being there for your dad amidst such conflict..

as hard as it is for your son being angry with you..he might just be struggling with his own grief and lashing out...fear..

he will come back in his own time ...

some people never allow themselves to grieve..

as @Owlunar said keep some of your inner strength back for you...

take care..thinking of you

@Former-Member

love your new avatar...

I had to smile ...I was thinking of changing mine again this morning..

sometimes I think that I would like to change my name...that would only help me...not others on here with whom I have come close....

Thank you @Former-Member - I had to laugh, it was your avatar that inspired me to change mine! haha. I was admiring yours as I love anything of the older era and I liked yours. It felt warm. Just like you are - I admire how kind and supportive you are to all on here. Hugs xx
