Re: Emotional impulsve disorder

Hi @lostleo, learn something every day, didn't know EID is BPD (but it makes sense with the emotional disregularity) I have had bpd label, and bipolar but my psychologist says Complex-PTSD is a more helpful label. Main symptoms are depression and anxiety. I am treated with antidepressant good for PTSD as well (anxiety) which has worked in conjunction with therapy. I use to when on and off meds, thinking they weren't good for me but left this one consistent for a year now, and I've noticed a difference. I was on 3 different but got rid of one antidepressant and cut out barbituates all together (hard but worth it). Its best to negotiate medication changes with your Dr of cause. Stability is key to recovery I think.
I found different mindfulness self awareness meditations have helped reconnect emotions to manage them better, before they overflow or erupt. Acceptance committment therapy (ACT) & self-Compassion have also helped.
Welcome to the forums 🙂

Re: Emotional impulsve disorder

Hi @lostleo

I have BPD and was diagosed about 7 yrs ago. I also suffer depression, anxiety and childhood abuse.

I didn't know that the other diagnosis was emotional impulsive disorder. That term would be better as I don't like BPD name.

I think for me personally it is going to take a long time as I have a lot of different issues. I have a pyschiatrist and a psychologist as well as a good doctor. I feel you need a good psychologist who deals with BPD or who at least understands BPD.

Do you have a good psychologist?

Trying to regulate my emotions is difficult; but i find my coping strategies and distraction skills are watering the garden, knitting, sewing, walking, going to the beach, playing with my dog, meditation.

Happy to chat again if you like 🙂

Re: Emotional impulsve disorder

Hi @lostleo

I also had to look up EID, and found out that there are 4 sub types of BPD as well, which i didnt know.

Family court is almost the most stressful thing i've every had to go through and i thik a lot of people find it all too hard. I'm glad that you have support with the addiction and gambling issues, its huge to tackle so much at once. You sound like you are on the right road now,

take care

Re: Emotional impulsve disorder

Discouraged, petulant, impuslive and destructive. (EID seemed to be just another name for BPD).

I'm still in the middle of Family court but hopefully there will be an end to it... one day!

Re: Emotional impulsve disorder

Good luck with family court certainly an emotional experience , at the present time I've put court on hold as it's not helping me, when I'm in better space I'll continue process , I started January 2016 ,as a result of my behavior I haven't seen my children since last June ,I'm not prepared to subject my children to supervise visits ,they did nothing wrong ,the court system is not a good place to be for any family !
