Does anyone else start getting really down in May? As long as I can remember - may is a difficult month for me, long before the Major Depression label. It spirals into slothful living and sleeping the winter away. Even though I love autumn weather, on the inside I just want to go to sleep and bide my time 'till spring comes - when I know i get a burst of energy back. Lots of people suffer SAD, and for some its serious. Its a well documented condition, and in my case compounds existing depression & anxiety, the tipping point. I noticed here on the forums last year that a lot of us struggled to get through winter, even here in mild Australian weather. What, if any are your winter blues symptoms in the winter?

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Thanks @Owlunar, good to see you. How's your day going? I brang home sime dog bones - my dog thinks its Christmas lol and so obviously tawn between being on the couch with me or or outside there munching yummy bone, makes me laugh. I take care not to drop his bone in the grass then he goes buries it 😕 Comes sniffing around for more and once he realises that's it, he goes digs it up and - yumo (not). Very entertaining.
At the shop today a lady carried in the cutest tiny lapdog. Yorkshire Terrier x cheauwa. Really placid. Cute 🐕
Hope you get back into your herbs Dec.
@soul, hope you're OK today. Thinking of you too 🙂

Back from my walk. I'm okay @Former-Member. I give my dog frozen chicken necks. They are supposed to be good for their teeth and being frozen slows down their eating if them. Sometimes Imyhink she just gulps the smaller ones down whole anyway.
My daughter is out again. I'm having a glass of wine and heating up a frozen pizza. Feel like a junky good day. Don't have them often but need some comfort food. At least it's a spinach and mozzarella one on sourdough crust.

Hi @Former-Member
I am okay - I didn't do all I planned yesterday - the wind was blowing really hard - then it got cloudy and cold - not the day for the garden but the day will come - let's keep the weeding until the garden is full of sunshine and not wind - shivers
I love your dog and the bones story - I have heard that dogs remember where they bury their bones and go back for them when they are really rotten and love them that way - aw sheesh - imagine a dog bringing his rotten bone to you and offering it as a gift - like one of my past cats who was a mouser and ratter - she would leave mice at the back door - dead - and in a short space of time - 7 rats as big as herself - just about - I was not happy about those rats -
My current cat used to mouse and eat her prize - once she brought a live mouse inside and I was on my bed - standing up and squealing - honestly - I could not help myself - egad - I told my doctor and he told me that men sometimes do the same and not to worry about it -
I did cut up a chicken wing now and again for my cat's teeth but it was hard work for my arthritic hands - she would not eat the bone if there was any meat and so I would get as much raw meat off as I could and put it in the fridge until she ate the bone - now still - if I start preparing vegies in the kitchen she whines around looking for chicken
I hope you are okay - I think you had a pretty indifferent day yesterday and I hope things are better now

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Hey @soul, I give my dog chicken necks for breakfast every day (suggested by the Vet) and biscuits at night. He doesn't think much of frozen food. Poor old teeth. The red eat dog bone yesterday is a treat he loves.
This morning I spent a couple hours researching a natural antidepressant tmg for my S3 as he doesn't like using pharmaceuticals and has admitted he is depressed. I got a most rare late tx from him last night at 10pm wanting to talk. Of cause I rang straight away and, I never heard him cry so much since he was a child. He really misses his partner of 5yrs (broke up January) and thinks he may have made a huge mistake separating. They're still friends... He's coughing a lot, being treated for bronchitis atm still. Really struggling 😞 Fortunately I was calm in myself and knew to do a lot of listening. I'm so concerned and fought to only empower him to cope. Its kinda frightening knowing I could put my foot in it, say the wrong thing... But how prividedged am I to have this connection with him, that even with all my failings he talked with me. Maybe this is the moment I have been saved from my own suicidal depression for. Really hope I said the right things. Think so. Worked a acknowledging not fixing. He's smart and can work it out. I pray.
@Faith-and-Hope how are you going with your S2, does he talk with you like this?
@soul, does your girl come to you in tears? How about you @Owlunar ?
He just tx (reply) me saying he's walking in the sunshine.

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Hi @Former-Member
It's so that your son contacted you and then you were able to calm him because you were into calming yourself - and that today he is walking in the sunshine
Of course he is grieving his girlfriend - maybe he did the wrong thing breaking up with her - of feels he did - but they are still friends so not all is lost - sometimes people need time to sort themselves out - ah - those years of finding life's partner - tough
Don't worry about saying the wrong thing - we all do that - omstars do we ever!! - btw - better to day the wrong thing than to say nothing - much better - saying the wrong thing often enough let's us know when the ground is shifty - I just invented that idea - I should list these original ideas
My daughter doesn't say much about what she is feeling - I am left up to guess work and knowing her well - I know she had a big change in her life a few months ago - she is a lot more open with me now that before whatever it was that happened - I can guess and I do a lot of time thinking and praying and hoping about things - she is a wonderful woman really

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Hi @Former-Member
My S2 used to talk to me about what was happening with him, but his current state of anxiety has scotched that for the moment. I can talk to him occasionally, but I have to ask him if I can talk to him first, and he will answer yes or no ...,, in saying that, it's also to do with the fact that he is h der a pdoc, foingvtherapy ckadses,, now under family counselling with us, and had his dad wanting / trying to fix him ..... there is only so much of him emotionally to be able to spread around, so I have taken a back seat.
I am thrilled to say though, that when he is receptive, and I do speak up and offer advice, he is telling me that that is exactly what they were teaching him in CBT, or that's what the pdoc has just told him, or the family counsellor is saying the same thing I just did a couple of days before, which is really validating for both of us ...,, especially as my parenting ideas have been constantly invalidated by WH for the last 18 months particularly.
I am so glad to hear that your son reached out to you. If he is still friends with his ex, then they might learn a thing or two, mature a bit, and end up back together ..... I just hope that she is nice to you, and he stands up for you ...,. keeps space in his life available to you .....
💜

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Thanks @Owlunar and @Faith-and-Hope, Our kidulz are a worry. S3 just sent me a tx thankingbme for checking in on him today, after our late night talk. I was able to establish last night that he is having suicidal thoughts but no plan and sees it as not an option. So that's good, I think. He doesn't want to get pdychology counselling anymore he says. Doesn't think they move fast enough for him. He's fitness kick is helping. But having bronchitis doesn't help. I don't know if he will go back to her. I don't think so, and don't think they'd be room for me if they did. I'm just the 'messed up mum that damaged him BT moving too much and leaving his dad and moody... ... I'm honoured he feels comfortable to talk with me again. and that I wasn't reactive and that I'm able to share how I got through similar. He's gotta stop being hard on himself. But he's learning this. Glad your S2 talks sometimes too F&H and you have such avgood DD Dec
