Struggling with not drinking

Struggling with not drinking

Hi Forum family.
Think today is day 13 without a drink. And the urge is pretty intense right now.
I spent 11 days in a Private Psych Facility. The first 24 hours I was a bit shaky. But after that I was okay. No urge to drink when I was in hospital. There were always people around.
Been home 2 days and last night was hard with the urges. This afternoon is really tough.
Does anyone have any positive stories about successfully quitting alcohol?
I feel I need some inspiration.
My depression is still strong & SI started again last night. My friends all work. I can't see them at night - because that's when they drink.
I'm feeling pretty powerless - but I can't go back on the booze. It makes my depression that much harder to control. So I have to beat it.
please only positive replies.

Sorry to hear that you've been struggling with this this arvo @utopia.

What do you think would hlep the most at the moment? Suggestions for distractions, or talking for distraction, or remembering successful stuff you've done, or ... something else?

So hard sometimes living in regional or rural areas.-- sure is @utopia and I can`t drive , so hubby has to drive everywhere and then he overthinks and worries that he has wasted a whole day when he should be working

Travelling really takes it out of him , he ends up getting a massive headache and the rest of the bed is he is in bed and he takes etra meds or drinks and then that does not help the next day

sending you lots of hugs

@utopia It definitely sounds like that external stuff with workcover is making things tougher and I'm sorry that I don't have any good suggestions. The plan to try and relax sounds like a good idea, and I hope it helps.

Hi @utopia

I just popped you an email as I'm concerned about you. As I said in the email, not only have you been having to battle with your own mental health, you've had to battle with WorkCover, and understandably, you must be exhausted.

We're here to sit with you through this tonight, but please contact one of the following services if things escalate:

Lifeline: 13 11 14 or Crisis Chat

Suicide call back service: 1300 659 467 or online counselling

Thinking of you.

Here with you still @utopia and understanding so much of what you're saying/feeling. @NikNik is right about how much you ahve had on your plate, had going on, its exhausting and so much of it sounds so very painful (i.e. your son not talking to you and your mum just not understanding).

I wish that you had had more time in hospital. Even though workcover wont cover the private hospital again would it be an option to go to a public hospital? I have never had any private hospital type stuff and while my hospital stay wasnt 'pleasant' it was ok and did help me get back on track at that time.
