14th year house bound

14th year house bound

Hi Everyone,

I am new hear, after being removed from other mental health forums for my depressive thoughts i thought i would give this forum a try, this is my story.

I am 33 live with my mother, i am almost compeatly housebound, i leave my house once in the morning for a walk at 6am and maybe once during the week, both times i leave the house fill me with great anxiety, i have no friends, (the last friend i had was in 2001), i have never had a job, never had a girlfriend and never been able to leave my parents side, my father died in 2001 and i have always suffered seperation anxiety the last time i had a night away from home was 1994 for one night (parents had to pick me up at midnight because i was so frantic).

I have spent most of the past 14 years in my room, or the shed, never much out of the yard, no one in my town knows me, people stare and ask each other behind my back if any one knows who i am.

I have only had an income for the past year and spend the previous 7 with no income at all, mum had to use all of her life savings to allow me to live with her and she now has nothing.

I only want to live long enough to care for her in her old age and then i plan to take my own life, i knew from an early age my life would turn out like this, but had no idea how horrible it would be, every day is the same, i often wonder why i keep going, i have very little contact with family (maybe once a year) and i am really struggling to keep going.

Please don't feel distressed about what i am saying, and i am so sorry if i have offended anyone, it is just how i feel.

Their is so much more, but i will leave it at that for the moment, i am shaking and the anxiety is kicking in so thankyou for reading and i will add more later.

Jacques

I hope you are rugged up for the night.

Lol

I remember those sticky finger days. Craft wasnt my forte but I tried.

So your girls would not be doing so well at maths and writing .. across the spectrum of subjects if they had not been loved enough allowing them to be clear headed enough to do ok. YOU must have been doing something right.

Whatever discipline or behaviour issues they may have I hope their academic success has been noted by the child trauma team and you given due regard.

Thanks for sharing with me about them. @hiddenite Believe in their resilience.

Re: 14th year house bound

Unfortunately the professionals have labeled me as an over protective mother. And was told that was not a good thing.
I have also been told that I am equally responsible for the trauma to the girls because I never left or called the police.
That also comes with the questions why didn't I leave and why did I have children when I knew what my husband was like.
All these judgments have destroyed any self worth I had.
I never left the girls alone with him. Not even to shower they came into the bathroom with me.
if I hadn't been so vigilant they would have been more traumatized. And suffered injuries.

Re: 14th year house bound

KAren that is terrible you needed to go that far to protect the girls, who told you these things, the psycologist, you protected those 2 girls and did what you had to do.

no one should judge you, they have not lived your life, your decisions in the past do not matter, what matters now is what decisions you make for the future, of course you are over protective you had to be, it is only natural to make sure you children where/are safe.

Karen, never let anyone tell you you are a bad mother, from what you have told me you have been such a wonderful mother, i don't know too many women who would have done what you did to protect your children.

remember lables are just that, lables, they do not reflect what you are they reflect what others think of you. from what i see the girls love and respect you very much, and want to protect you, so they do not feel any shame of who you are, they feel pride.

Re: 14th year house bound

Hey Jacques
unfortunately my experience of the mental health system to be very judgemental and they love to place labels on people.
The health professionals have caused me untold damage. While with my husband I never doubted my commitment to the girls and always did what I had to to keep them safe. Even if it meant I would be injured.
Now after being judged I feel that im not a good mum and they deserve better. Their comments destroyed me.
Thats why I deserve to be punished because I failed as a mother. I didn't do enough....

Re: 14th year house bound

The questions of overprotective and permissive parenting are huge. In a fraught situation how do we know what to do. But if your girls are doing well at school then that bodes well for their resilience in the long term. Hold that in your heart when going through tough times with them.

Some people dont realise that though we live in a lucky country for some of us it is like wartime.

Some MH workers have said how could I think to have a relationship with someone who had schizophrenia .. but I tried to focus on the positive ..

I am so glad you can say to yourself ..@hiddenite .. that you took caring and protective steps for your girls.

Re: 14th year house bound

Karen i want you to look at the girls, right now, tell me they are not wonderful?, tell me they are not smart?, Tell me they are not creative?. No

Well guess what they are smart, wonderful and creative, that is because of you, not you husband, not your mother, not mental health professionals, it was all you.

Karen i understand how other people may judge you, but you need to look at those girls and say to yourself "look at them, they are everything i wished for myself", that is all anyone can ask of themselves.

Re: 14th year house bound

I think that it is good that you are expressing a much broader range of feelings and telling us many things about your life than staying stuck in other peoples opinions of you.

Your lived life with them is what will stick.

How do you help them with homework at your mothers place .. do you do it on the kitchen table or do you have more privacy?

Re: 14th year house bound

Thanks Jacques
it just broke my heart health professionals one after another passing their opinions of me.

They don't know what it's like being verbally and violently abused for 24 years. I was only 17.
We all were so scared all the time.
Sorry I never thought I would ever be judged so awfully and frim so msy health professionals.
The system fails people
