14th year house bound

14th year house bound

Hi Everyone,

I am new hear, after being removed from other mental health forums for my depressive thoughts i thought i would give this forum a try, this is my story.

I am 33 live with my mother, i am almost compeatly housebound, i leave my house once in the morning for a walk at 6am and maybe once during the week, both times i leave the house fill me with great anxiety, i have no friends, (the last friend i had was in 2001), i have never had a job, never had a girlfriend and never been able to leave my parents side, my father died in 2001 and i have always suffered seperation anxiety the last time i had a night away from home was 1994 for one night (parents had to pick me up at midnight because i was so frantic).

I have spent most of the past 14 years in my room, or the shed, never much out of the yard, no one in my town knows me, people stare and ask each other behind my back if any one knows who i am.

I have only had an income for the past year and spend the previous 7 with no income at all, mum had to use all of her life savings to allow me to live with her and she now has nothing.

I only want to live long enough to care for her in her old age and then i plan to take my own life, i knew from an early age my life would turn out like this, but had no idea how horrible it would be, every day is the same, i often wonder why i keep going, i have very little contact with family (maybe once a year) and i am really struggling to keep going.

Please don't feel distressed about what i am saying, and i am so sorry if i have offended anyone, it is just how i feel.

Their is so much more, but i will leave it at that for the moment, i am shaking and the anxiety is kicking in so thankyou for reading and i will add more later.

Jacques

HI Jacques

Thanks know one has ever thought I was smart. My mobile is with Vodafone and reception is non existent at the house and Phillip island. So I carry my tablet and WiFi which is Telstra to make sure I can speak with you.

J I am here because of you. I told you what happened when we lost contact with one another and I had no support.

I don't want you to let go.....

I also feel safe when I speak to you.

My hands are a mess and really sore, I will put some cream on them tonight. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thinking of you Jacques and I'm glad you've had a rest

Re: 14th year house bound

OMG Karen, i am with vodafone too!!!!!!!! that is why i had no connection, i can't afford 2 internet connections, but i am so glad you thought of getting a telstra one so you can speak to me, i feel so special.

my hands are so dry from saw dust they crack between the nails, and the whole hand is all flaky skin, i can't believe how dust can affect hands, it really sucks all the moisture out of mine.

Karen, you are sounding so content at the moment, i can't believe the change in you, i bet it was nice working on th house with short hair, you must feel like a new person.

Karen remember what i said, when you get tradies in do as much as possible take the panic attack all at once, like i did, i got the plumber and electrician in 2 weeks, it was anxiety provoking, but it was worth it, it is almot all done. please do this too, just let them in and go bush for the day, as little contact as possible.

Karen you are special to me, never forget that.

Re: 14th year house bound

Hey Jacques

I'm still getting used to the short hair. It's really strange I've had long hair for years.

It's mental health week have You seen the programs on Tuesday on abc 8.00 diagnosing depression. Then changing minds, they show inside a mhu. I'll be watching.

I'm so glad you have listened to your body and had a rest today, you had me worried.

What are you up to tonight.....

I still have to get the house 're stumped that's the first big job. It means making a phone call no one does it by email.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of my husband's death. I don't know how I should feel about it. I don't normally handle these anniversaries very well.

I just become so overwhelmed....

I am touched that you feel that I'm special. You make me feel important, that I'm worth something, and understood. Thank you Jacques

Hi Karen,

Yes i have set my recorder up to tape all the mental health shows on ABC, i don't know if i will be able to watch changing minds, i almost cryed when i saw the treatment of people in the public system, it scares me so much i will end up their one day, i will try, please tell me how accurate the show is.

Thank you Karen, i am glad i have someone to be concerned about me, know one else knows how bad things are for me at the moment, i have hidden a lot of it from mum, with her diabeties, stress sends her sugar up.

Tonight, i am watching Australian story and Q & A and going to watch this forum as they have a special on here tonight, and maybe playing some computer games & my favourite talking to you

Oh no Karen, you seem to have so many triggers this month and last, it has been full on for you hasn't it. Karen with what he did to you, i would not handle it well either.

Well what i do when i have events like these is think of the good times instead off the bad ones, you two must have loved each other at the start, otherwise you would not have married, maybe think of the good times with him.

Keeping busy is key Karen, my birthday, christmas, new years, i keep myself so busy, i don't give myself time to think, it is the worst thing, do puzzles, work on the house, look around some shops, do somethink other that give yourself quiet time ,it makes things 10 X worse.

Karen it is going to be hard for the girls too, i don't know a lot about kids, but i am sure they will be quite upset.

Karen i will be here for you tomorrow to keep you company, remember you are not alone, you have friends, who will support you through this difficult time.

Re: 14th year house bound

I'm sorry Jacques you don't have to watch it if it's going to upset you.

I hope that it shows how awful these places really are. Where you get locked into you room because they cannot keep you safe from other patients. I was attacked twice by the same patient.

Where I got left for 2 hours waiting to be admitted and ended up od.

Spent 6 days on a acute care ward waiting for a bed in the mhu.

Spending 2 days in the emergency department waiting for a bed.

I sh multiple times a day in there only to be told that they rather I did that than suicide

After 5 admissions in 12 months I could tell you of horrific things that happened.

They are not a safe place for anyone.

They are understaffed.

All they do is sedate everyone to try and keep everyone under control.

Sorry j just venting.

Any way my point is don't watch it the last thing I want is to upset you.

Re: 14th year house bound

Hi KAren,

I am going to try and watch it, i am used to being upset, it just hits a little to close to home, i am so sorry you have had such a tough time over the past decade, it is not fair, if you where a millionaire you would get proper treatment, but because you are poor you get substandard care, yet the government can spend trillions on killing people overseas, it makes me so angry to see what the priorities are in this country.

Karen i so wish i could be their to protect you, you are so deserving of a kind person to help you, i wish that person was me.

I am sure they are going to sugar coat what it is really like in those places they always do.

Karen vent away, i am always here to listen. i like to hear from people their own experiances without media spin.

Hi

@Jacques and @hiddenite

I watched it last year and look forward to it again this year, however will need to tape some of it this year, (as I'll be moderating on the forums).

I must say I was really impressed with the Dr who appears on the show, his name escapes me but he appears again in this years series. He has a way with people is all I can say! Did anybody else see it?

I also thought filming the mental health tribunal process really helped to demystify this process.

It would be really interesting to use the search bar to read the comments made after viewing last years show...

Re: 14th year house bound

Hi Karma

I agree the Dr they showed was very in tune with his patients. But my reality in the past 12 months with 5 admissions I was lucky if I saw the same psych. The ones I did see were like robots. Asking the same questions over and over. With no feeling or showing that they even cared about what I was saying. Even the staff members weren't respectful of the psychs. Once again trying to manage in a system that's bursting at the seams.
