My Hospital Stay

My Hospital Stay

So I arrived here at midday today.
Feeling a bit lost. Everything is so ... strange.
Not sure what to do now.
Starting to get a bit anxious. A bit teary. Trying hard not to think, or to feel.
Wishing I had a bourbon or some chips or junk food. Something to keep me busy and not feeling.

Here for you @utopia. I have no words just now. I just want you to get the help you deserve. Thinking of you 💜🤗💐

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi @utopia - your psychiatrist is being a p____. Sounds like you bruised his massive ego and he is having a sulk. You deserve better - remember you are a customer, the hospital gets paid by the insurer (workcover) and his behaviour has just cost them money. Make a complaint - the nursing staff will probably back you up. I've encountered a few like him and I just take my business elsewhere as is my right. Do you have someone with you? At this time you really need an advocate or some sort of case worker with you. You were admitted into the private system so by rights workcover should find you another private bed. Please take care - I hope everything works out OK.

wtf @utopia that is discraceful - you deserve so so much better than this incompetent and egotistical psych. I cannot believe how badly you have been treated by the WHOLE sytem for so long. Sitting right beside you, holding your hand and giving you all the love I have.

Re: My Hospital Stay

@utopia I am so very very sorry that you are in this situation. Your experience is very much exemplifying why it would never occur to me to seek "help" from a hospital. It sounds like you have experienced the full brunt of the power differential that exists between mental health professionals and consumers.

You ARE still Utopia. The anger and fear that you are experiencing is a totally normal reaction to an abnormal situation.

I can't think of a thing to say, to make this situation seem even a tiny bit ok...because it isn't ok, not on any level. You are seeking help, and you are not getting the help that you need or deserve. It is totally ok to be angry and scared about that.

Re: My Hospital Stay

@Former-Member. Still best to be in a public hospital in Melbourne than the one I worked at in the country.
Because the public systems all use the same computer program &I don't want m old employer to to see my psych notes on the computer. So they are keeping the details very basic on the system.
Trying ro stay cool but haven't had a cigarette forabout 3 & 1/2 hours plus. And that in itself is starting to get me irritated.

Re: My Hospital Stay

@utopia,

because workcover approved you for a 14 day private hospital stay, they should be able to find you a bed in a different private hospital. The public psych hospital system is always full to over-flowing, so I doubt they will try and get you into a public hospital. Just sit tight. The worst they can do is keep you in an emergency bed over-night. That's Ok, you still get to see a doctor there and you still get to be safe and well-fed. I know it's not ideal, but at least you are away from that dreadful psychiatrist!

He sounds like a real piece of work!! Wow, he really over-reacted to you wanting to not see him for a day. His actions seem extreme. Why discharge you from hospital just because of that? He must have had to deal with people who were way more challenging than you, in his career, I would think? Incredible.

Sit tight, @utopia. Just expalin what happened in as calm a manner as you can, and ask them to find you a bed elsewhere. There should be plenty of beds in Melbourne.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Congrats on seeking out some aid.

I remember my first few hospitalizations. I didnt want to be there! Nothing wrong with me! LOL

I even tried to escape a few times. I used a food cart to hold open the electric locking door and tried to climb over it and out. LOL...which got me a sedative shot right in the rear!

I hated going to the hospital in the begining of my illness. Mostly because I refused to acknowledge that I was sick and in need of help. I viewed their interference as oppression.

I have since changed my mind and my experiences at the hospital have been nothing but amazing. I've made lots of friends in there, with others coping with problems just like me. The staff is always nice and pleasent. In many ways, my last hospitalization, by the time i was set to be released, I kinda didnt want to leave! I enjoyed it that much....

Good luck! 🙂

Oh @utopia I literally have no words. I can't even begin to imagine how scared you might be. I wish I could be there to sit beside you. What an awful thing to have to go through. xxx

Re: My Hospital Stay

Oh @utopia, this is hard and that psychiatrist - wt# !!! where do they get off thinking talking to you like that is helpful? Sounds like HE needs a holiday
And blaming you for not getting better. You will when your ready. We're people not puppets. A change in treating Dr could be good for you.

Trouble with the public system is you don't get to choose your Dr. You have to be reviewed by A&E general interns & nurses, then CAT team nurses, psych registrars, and maybe, on a week day - between 9&5 you'll see a psychiatrist, probably for only 15min. If they make you involuntary and you're locked in - don't be scared, they will protect you, put you under close observation. I have been in public hospital systems - short stay acute care is very different to long term psych inpatients. There is the hope that you will get better. I have been an involuntary pt more than once, theres laws to protect you from this going on too long - do you have can 'Allied Person' a support person that can sitbin with you during apts and speak up forvyou? My last Inv order was dropped by the psychiatrist on the 4th week. I used every ounce of energy to fake my way out of there. Still not sure why accept to say I wanted my own bed, go for a drive...

Where are you now? Still in A&E? Do you think there's a chance they'll sendvyou home? How will you cope if that happens? Please stay strong, trust the process. I'm with you too, winter is a hard time 🌷🌿
