1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?
Hi guys. I'm new here. I've only been diagnosed (well I'm not even really sure about that because not quite sure what the diagnosis is?!) a few weeks ago and started on meds. I went back to my GP today who has now referred me to a psychiatrist because she hasn't come across my symptoms before. I have never been to a psychiatrist and I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up about what to expect? Any tips on how to prepare myself? I'm kind of nervous because I'm a nurse myself so I'm feeling very vulnerable as the patient for a change. Thanks in advance x

So 10 30 my time @Former-Member not a problem ill be here for you holding and squeezing your hand 💓💓💓 Yes writing a list is very good! I do it all the time and they are so use to it so go for it! Write all of everything you want or need to say down

Great advice @outlander. Yes @Former-Member write it down. Explain it exactly how you have explained it here. Then he will have a clearer idea of what is going on for you and how you really need this break in hospital. Why not look at your private health insurance policy or call their hotline number tonight. Or look on their website for some answers. Then tmw you will have a better idea of the questions you need answered. Will be thinking of you tomorrow morning. Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks @outlander and @utopia I did look at my private health cover, it will cover some but not all of the costs. But I can't find any information for the mental health centres regarding what the actual cost is. I have some money in the bank that I can use if I have to. I guess my psych will have an idea about that when I see him tomorrow. List is written @outlander xx

The administrator at the facility you are booking into will be able to discuss that with you, if you give her or him the information provided to you by your health fund.
