Re: is depression catchy?
Dear @sharona
How are you tonight?
Thanks for posting. After I read your messages, Something came to me
it was why my youngest son had to move away from me over 5 years ago......it was because of my dehabilitating depression.
I feel like going to give him a big hug .... but he's going his own thing where he lives and he does'nt need to see me.
I like that you work.
Can I respond to your message to agree with @-karma- that support can be about finding many different places and people. I do not have many friends at all......
I saw GP about getting silver chain in
Visit my GP a lot.
Come online to Sane forums
See my Psychotherapist a couple of times per year.
Make it a mission to write a card to a family member or niece or nephew and send it slow mail _ 2 per fortnight. Even just writing "Been thinking of you, Much Love........"
Im not good at having coffee with different people or going out very much. I prefer knowing very few people so it's something I do to keep going.
Looking forward to reading you, Ja47yr
@-karma-
Can I rename myself?

Re: is depression catchy?
Karma,
After 5 months, I just came back and reread my post and your comment here. I feel like I never really read either my own post or anything following it, but I remember doing so. Feels like a truly long time. It has been a roller coaster in terms of my son's mental health and my own. I really appreciate your comments and understanding. I haven't contacted ARAMFI or any carers support organisation. These things are extremely difficult for me. I have had very negative experiences asking for help in the past and I have a hard time controlling my emotions in such situations, and I'm afraid of losing it when I call. But I really am in need of support. My own health is going down and I have noone left to talk to. My son (31) made some improvement a few months ago and on the advice of a friend (who isn't a carer and has a carefree existence) I booked a trip to NZ to visit my family. Then he took a turn for the worse and I got as far as the departure terminal and cancelled the trip. Not that he ever said thanks or sorry you had to cancel your trip..... in fact he was more aggressive than normal. Anyway, I cannot imagine how any carers organisation will help me. My son would not agree to go anywhere. I'm getting closer to trying. I really do appreciate the help. Typicalme to wait 6 months before contacting.

Wow Meg, thank you for your incredible understanding. I can really relate to your experiences too. More inspired to look for a support group.

Thankyou Justanother47yrold
Your comments came just at the right moment. I think it's timefor meto see my own psychologist and maybe try a support group. I know it won't slove everything but I'm looking to survive.
Yes,hard to live with some people who are severely depressed and we love them.
Sometimes it feels like I have been told that I must perform a heart bypass on my own son.
I think it's strange that with mental illness somehow we are expected to know how to best treat/react/speak to our person with MI with no guidance,no training.
Keep in touch.
