I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Hey @Former-Member 🙂

I really like seeing you come past when you do. Sorry to hear you've had a rough few days. It sounds so frustrating and yuck. I can't stand it when I get into a mess over people that I know are insignificant in the bigger scheme of things. Dealing with frustrations that are related to others is annoying, adding that extra layer of self-frustration to it doesn't help me either. I had a giggle and a bit of a yay you re the hairy legs. I kind of love reaching the point where I care little about what others see of me. It can feel very liberating in a way. Did you get to buy food today or was sunshine and hairy legs the way you did today? I don't think I'd eat most days if I didn't have kids to feed, purely because I despise shopping and suck at cooking. And hate dishes too.

I've had some pretty dodgy experiences with mh professionals and helping people so when I find someone/something thst works well for me I tend to stick with it. If it isn't working I will say so, try to work it out and leave if it continues. Unfortunately the situation I'm in has required me to engage with a huge amount of helping people which has been mostly a source of massive frustration and pain as there are some pretty big things for me and my family at stake if I don't work with them or if they fail. I've had to stay quiet about things I've seen that are unethical at best and dangerous practices at worst. For a fairly loudly spoken, passionate, stand up against this stuff, kind of person, such silencing is a source of despair I guess. I live with my cats and my little people, the latter which sort of change the rules in a number of ways I guess. I know if I don't act on certain things, others will act in my place. The crisis team are involved not really by choice, as my mh worker called psych services. While I struggled initially with her calling them, I can see now that at least I have a better understanding of the level of 'risk' she's willing to work with, so I know what I can disclose and what I can't to make sure I don't cross that line. It's been 11 of the longest hardest days, which given what has happened in the last little while, is hard for me to get my head around. I'm now working with them partially because I still feel I have to, as I feel there's still somewhat of a threat if I don't, and partially because I am absolutely exhausted, overwhelmed and broken. They can get me a break. The break place is one down from a hospital. Unfortunately dishes are still your responsibility there lol.

Also, totally don't see you asking questions as prying. I see it as someone taking time to understand what's happening, and I appreciate that thank you 🙂

Ps - bringing out the loong posts in me again sorry!

Hey @Former-Member - I meant to say earlier, I really don't mind what conversations or sharing happens here. I find it so comforting to know there are real people here, and with real people comes real stuff. I was thinking about this nest while I was doing the dishes. It kind of feels like what I imagine the nest I would really make if I could, would feel like. I think it's sort of a little like a CheerBear version of how I imagine @Phoenix_Rising 's drop in centre would be like. A safe place to be whoever you are, in whatever way you are at the time and have that be ok. Luckily this place is super cheap to buy supplies for, so I am adding a supply of buckets for dumping things and throwing them out, to go with the huge pile of cushions for safe landing and resting spots, and the blankets for sitting and just being.

One of the LF has learnt the most exceptionally amazingly frustrating but kind of funny new trick. They now burst out with the national anthem (sung off key and with the words completely wrong) if I start nagging to do something. It's this kind of stuff that's a nice reminder that maybe it's ok that I am going a little bananas, because I think any person would be challenged not to when a tiny human stares at you, standing still and singing Advance Australia Fair loudly at requests to wear clothes when it is cold.

Re: I'm in a nest

@CheerBear. Hee hee, so I take it you don't want me to bring my violin to the nest then? See, now any time you are feeling superly duperly bad and can't think of anything in the world to be grateful for...you can be grateful that you aren't my neighbour!!! My neighbours have actually been super good about it and I am very appreciative of their tolerance. I actually am beyond the stage of sounding like a dying cat, but still a beginner. And, being the little aspie that I am, I am quite happy to practice the same tricky couple of bars over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

@Former-Member I don't mind you asking me questions - I can't keep up with the story of my muddle either. Everything got derailed last week by the principle psychologist where I do the neurofeedback. I vented it all out on my neurofeedback thread. (A) is definitely still in my world...even though we do have to have the "are you going away" conversation at the start of each session - I am terrified of her dumping me for any reason. We begin each session with me asking her if she is going away, and she responds with "I'm not going anywhere." We've been doing this weekly for four months - I anticipate we will be doing it for a very long time yet! I never got as far as getting to the TAFE. That plan is now back on the back-burner for the moment.

I have two cats here who happily listen to my woes. I also have a third cat and a dog who live across the Rainbow Bridge.

Ok, well this was a quick flyby. I'm now off to make some dinner and have some non-computer time.

I don't know why it did that. I have tried to fix it here...I wonder if it will work???

Re: I'm in a nest

Ok, the thread name didn't change but the subject thingy did, which is weird and I haven't seen that happen before, but I am ok with that now. Massive total world is ending meltdown avoided. Phew.

@Phoenix_Rising - the violin is amazing and a super cool way of spending your time. I'm glad your neighbours are good 🙂 Enjoy your dinner

@CheerBear I bet you can't guess what I am eating for dinner? I will give you a hint: I ate the same thing for breakfast. 😆
