I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Re: I'm in a nest

Thanks @Mazarita @Maggie and @Former-Member. It so much helps to know there are people who get it and are here.
My bladder decided it was best I drive home so I sat in the garden until I could tackle it some more. One of the problems is that there are questions I don't have or don't know the answer to as lots of processes happen when you enter refuge that change the answers to lots of questions and my answer seeking ability has taken a dramatic turn downwards the more this has continued. There are also documents needed (or ones I don't actually need but have been told I do because no-one seems to know how to use this system, including those who work in it) because of the situation, that I also don't have. I've either lost them in the chaos that happens with being in refuge and moving around, or they never made it into my hands to begin with, as happens when you do a disappearing act like we did. I'm not in public housing, transitional housing, community housing or private rental so I don't fit boxes, as paper like this was from before programs like ours were a thing, hence why I need guidance from the box checking people. But nope, that's apparently not a thing either. I'm consistently disappointed in myself that I'm consistently surprised by this stuff.
I really can't stand myself when I'm like this and I get so frustrated that my ability to tolerate anything housing related is scarily almost non-existent. I melt in a spectacular way and I don't even recognise myself. I know it's been funny to joke about that with my CM, but it's not actually funny anymore. It feels almost impossible and right now what's keeping me going is the thought that this is ending soon and then I'll be able to live quietly in a garden and never poke my head into that particular horrible world of broken systems until I'm ready to get back up and work to bring it down, like it's smashed me and so many others I know. I might be a feisty snowflake, but I'm one with fierce determination.
With that, I am leaving the safety of my blanket and am off to the real estate to see if I can get their part filled in, then on a mission to find a Justice of the Peace, then I'll go back to submit this application that, after finding one open door in between what feels like 100 closed ones this morning, is complete (I hope). Without needing a "letter" or documents that were apparently needed and apparently sent through that were neither needed or sent through. 4 days. I can do 4 days more surely.
Thanks again for listening and being here.

Re: I'm in a nest

Good on you, @CheerBear, for retreating to the safety of your blanket and then leaving it again to do what needs to be done. Keep up the retreating as needed and the moving outwards again when that is needed too. I'm about to jump in the shower and head off to the doctors (first appointment I will have kept for weeks!) Will be checking back in here from time to time to see how you are going. Hugs, sister, sending grounded moral support your way.

Re: I'm in a nest

Hi @CheerBear .....

I am assuming that the loan-place really wants to give you the loan ..... cos that's how they make their money ..... and money is a major motivation to people who have to make money that way .....

So ......

My thought is that if you go to the loan place and ask for a loan officer to talk to, and tell them all the aspects that need to fall into place by Friday, cos you and the three fish are already living in the house, and the fish are at the local school, and no other houses are abailable, etc ..... and demonstrate to them what part of getting the loan falls into your jurisdiction, and how that has been nicely sorted ..... and which parts fall into whom-others jurisdiction like a trail of dominoes ...... perhaps that loan-person will help you chase all the don't-care-so-much-whether-it-happens-or-not others down with you / for you ......

You see, their reputation as far as you are concerned might not bother them ...... but it is my experience that their reputation to others in other businesses, particularly if requests to speak to their bosses become involved, start to matter to them, and matter very much ......

And besides .... a paper-trail can be more fun to chase down when you're not on your own and have a partner in the endeavour who enjoys a challenge, cos they don't have fish to lee housed as part of the equation, so th or fingernails are less at risk .....

Is that a workable idea ?

💜

This super super super sucks @CheerBear. I can so agonizingly relate to what you are saying about needing help because of your melted brain, only to be told there is no help, which makes your brain melt more. It is so so SO wrong.

You can do this though. I assume I am in your handbag (I know I'm in someone's handbag so I hope it is yours ). Next stop real estate agent, then JP. Ok, you've got this! Four days, just four days. And thankfully they are four Earth days rather than four Venus days!

Re: I'm in a nest

I had to go back to the office before the real estate so by the time I got to the real estate I was well and truly shaky. The property manager (same one who did the inspection the other week) started talking about how hard it was for her to have had to work with the broken chain of command and I couldn't help but completely break down. A full giant ugly snotty tears, melt into a chair, tell your life story because you can't help keep it in anymore, type meltdown. She's met the LF and loved them and she's seen us in the house with the way it's looked after. She knew we came from refuge to here but that's about it. Now she knows lots more about what life was like before this too. In the end I said something about just really needing a lease to give my family a home and to be done with it all now. She wrote one up on the spot and through enormous tears, I signed it. With even more tears and feeling like I couldn't walk, I found a JP and then submitted the form at the office.

We have a home until November next year, and there is no housing or family violence organisation I have to deal with anymore. I'm off the public housing priority list for the first time in 13 months. Life is normal again and this horrible part is all over. No-one can take that lease from me now.

I did today totally on my own (but not as I had a pocket full of pocket crew and a nest full of cheer squad I felt all day). There was no CM and the missing housing organisation was still missing. Signing that lease without their knowledge, feels so fitting and so good. I did it.

I'm so melted and my words here probably read nothing like the ones I'd say in person because I feel the most incredibly huge feelings right now. All I can think of is what it's taken to get here, and how close to not getting here I feel like I have been so often.

Tomorrow will feel better and I'm sure that I will feel relief soon, but today has been too hard. Now I'm so looking forward to being with my LF again after a long drive. They want to make things with glitter and cornflour and balloons and glue, and that sounds great to me. Just like my blanket does later.

Thank you again, for sticking through it with me. It's been epic.

Re: I'm in a nest

Oh, @CheerBear! I am literally crying happy tears for you right now. You did it! Bless that property manager for being human and for being kind. (It is probably good that she knows some of your background now, because she is definitely on your side going forward.)

I am super SUPER proud of you. You and the LF have a home until November next year and YOU did that. I’m sorry it has been such a battle, but I am so glad that you have a signed lease and a home and your LF to squeeze tight. 💚🏡🦄🐠🐟🐡

Congrats @CheerBear! Sounds like a very tough day but you did it! I hope you have a wonderful relaxing afternoon with the LF.
