I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Re: I'm in a nest

@Former-Member, Ooooh maybe you can come and visit our "The great yoga adventure" thread to help you find your motivation. I have been doing yoga at home for a long time and I decided I really needed some formal instruction to avoid hurting myself. I had been psyching myself up for about a year so it was cool when @CheerBear decided to psych herself up too and we managed to get to our first class together-but-not.

@Former-Member I seem to be strangely flexible...but I am amazingly uncoordinated. I totally get lost following the instructions in the class. I don't anticipate I will become any sort of great yogi. I am doing it partly for mental health reasons (there is heaps of research attesting to the benefits of it for good mental health) and partly because I struggle with back pain.

Re: I'm in a nest

I would love some flexibility @Phoenix_Rising - I am best at running. Mostly long distance. I used to do it for State's -- usually 6km to 10kms. I can still easily run that distance, but definitely have lost a ton of fitness then a few years ago and I mostly blame that to my degrading mental health.

Excersize is very very well researched and said to be good for people's wellbeings and lifestyles. I used to go to gym classes and was so uncoordinated that I found myseld tripping over myself probably 5 or more times within a few hours.

Has it been of any help with your back pain? xx

Re: I'm in a nest

I will have a look at the yoga thread some time soon @Phoenix_Rising 😀👍

I wasn't flexible at all either @Former-Member 😮😊 It's not so hard after some practice, but going to a class first was very helpful. Like Phoenix Rising said, it has many benefits.
I can't say that I enjoy it, but the benefits make it worth it. 😊💕

Re: I'm in a nest

@Former-Member I've only been to two classes, so no magic effects yet. However, I know that when I am diligent about doing some yoga at home each day, it really does help with the back pain.

I have never been able to run much at all. I used to swim competitively as a kid. I can go ages without getting in a pool and then jump in and swim just as well as ever. But as for running, nope, I am hopeless. But then...I guess that makes sense, given I'm a sea turtle.

I'm heading off for the evening now. I hope the rest of your weekend goes ok.

@Former-Member
I don't know exactly how I feel about yoga.. I prefer boxing and karate. That makes me sound very aggresive, I promise I am not, I am quite the opposite.. A delicate leaf if you will. I started Tae Kwon Do when I was merely 10 years old -- and I loved it and it has stuck by me ever since even though I don't currently do it.. lol.

Re: I'm in a nest

@Phoenix_Rising ohh myy - and I am terrible at swimming and don't really enjoy it either. I suppose we all have our strengths and weaknesses ❣ I did use to swim in a club when I was a kid but -- that didn't last long. I definitely don't know how they do it in winter. That does explain you being a turtle though 😉

Take care Xx You too! 💜 Hope you sleep well.

Re: I'm in a nest

Boxing and karate sounds like good exercise @Former-Member 👍😊 It's great that you run also. I'd like to go to boxercise classes.
I'm not good at getting out and about lately though.
Sounds like good stress relief, boxing etc. Have you been doing any of them lately, or are you feeling too down?

Nighty night @Phoenix_Rising 😴💕

@Former-Member

Haven't been able to do much lately.. Haven't even been going to the RSPCA, where I volunteer. It all gets a little too much and not sure if I can cope.

I really do suggest boxing though. I am very uncoordinated - so it was funny at first to have to do combinations, but you get used to it.

Re: I'm in a nest

Good morning in the nest 🙂

It's calm and still outside and our trampoline did not do a Dorothy on us which is a big relief! I'm going to have to work out how to move it back across the yard but at least it is in one piece still. It almost feels like a Spring morning this morning so we might be able to open some windows and let some fresh air in the house!

@Phoenix_Rising - I am going to have to visit FF again and properly work out this moon in underpants thing because I have no idea what went on, and if it's responsible for extreme weather, I want to know about it! It's pretty funny that your go-to when you heard about the weather was the moon in underpants.

@Former-Member - The yoga adventure thread has helped me heaps with my motivation to go to yoga. If you feel like joining us there too, we'd love to have you along as well!

@Former-Member - Boxing or some kind of big energy release class is something I've wanted to do for ages and might still jump in on one day. I have a bit of a problem with slow and gentle kind of things sometimes, so yoga is a test for me. I think it will be for me if I stick with it. I think it's really cool that you do boxing 🙂

Good morning to @Maggie, @Faith-and-Hope, @Mazarita, @mudsum, @Shaz51 and anyone/everyone reading.

And @Former-Member - I've missed seeing you this week. I hope your week has been good 💗

The plan today is for a quiet chill out day, which I am so happy about. We're kicking it off with pancakes 🙂

Hope it's a good one for you all!
