Something’s not right

I have Failed

I have Failed

I will start this with an apology to all my friends i have here on the forum

I have already failed in trying to stay off the dreaded path, it took a few drinks and then a few more and before i knew it i was out and scored, been on a three day bender and now i am poor, went wild for awhile and felt no pain. How am i so stupid! How am i ever going to get on the right track, the right damn path, if days after my first D and A counselling session i do this??? How do i go to my next session???

I hate what i am

i hate who i am

I Hate ME!

Sorry i don't know what to do, I have another D and A session in a few days followed by a psychiatrist appointment, i don't want to go to either anymore, i don't want to have to admit to them that i failed

I just don't know how to Change

Re: I have Failed

Hi Kato
I can definitely relate to failure. I have failed and wasted my life.
The first step is to admit that you have made a mistake congratulations. You cannot fix what you don't acknowledge.
You are fighting also a great effort.
The most important part is getting back up and continue the battle. When you finally accomplish your goal it will be all the more sweeter because you never gave up.
everyone here cares about you.
we will support you through the darkness without judgment.
Sometimes we are our own worst critics, so hard on ourselves.
Forgive yourself you are only human
keep fighting and know that we are all here for you.
take care

@hiddenite

Hi hiddenite, thank you for your kind words, but i only stopped because i ran out of money, otherwise i would still be going, not caring, not feeling, just in a wasted abyss blissful hell. I don't know how i can go to my appointments, the D and A is free, but my psychiatrist who i really do need to see, i can't pay for now, i am so stupid, dammit

Why is the easy way out the wrong path to take, the worst part, for the most part i felt the best i have in months, which scares me so much more, I can't change

As much as i want to

I don't think i will ever change, that part of me................

I am sorry i have turned your really nice words and churned them into more errgghhh about me, thank you for taking the time to reply, but i am not worth it

@kato
My phone just glitches.. @hiddenite is right! You haven't failed..you have come such a long way in past 6 months or so..one episode/bender doesn't undo all the progress you have made..
Far from it..
You can talk to you AOD worker or your psych about what has happened..they can help you heaps with strategies and techniques to avoid or minimise further triggers with alcohol..
Please don't be so hard in yourself.. Took me ages to quit smoking and at least 3 years to realise that alcohol hello..huge factor in me smoking..huge..
But smoking gives me asthma and bronchitis so I stopped drinking with particular people (other smokers)..
Anyway just wanted to remind you of how far you have come..and nag you about keep moving forward my friend..
Hugs to you kato, please try not to judge yourself so harshly..
You know..sometimes the only way we learn is through experience..this might be an experience that you know you don't want to repeat in a hurry...

Hi Kato.

You're not alone with having a bit of a stumble on the path.

Re: I have Failed

Hey @kato

Although relapse feels like failure it might help to remember that relapse is as much a part of addiction as drugs are. It's pulling up that's the important part. And sometimes you'll pull up because you're full of a desire to change and sometimes you'll pull up because you run out of money. The reason is irrelevant, it's what you do with it that counts.

Just see the money running out as a golden opportunity to take advantage of.

And remember that this is always when you will hate yourself the most. Nobody feels good after a relapse. It's a time that is always full of shame and self loathing. Which is why this is a really good time to hand control over to someone you trust. A counsellor, a sponsor, a loved one. Someone who can remind you that things get better and you have it in you to stay clean again. If you rely on yourself, during these first few days, your programming will be telling you that you'll never get clean and you may as well use. Don't trust yourself. Don't listen to yourself. Just listen to the ppeople around you who believe in you, until you start believing in yourself again.

And what if you tell the psych what happened? I know lots of psychs who will waive fees until their clients are back on their feet. 🙂

Re: I have Failed

@Alessandra1992

i know i have come a distance in the last 6 months or so, my problem is, i smoke, i drink, and whenever the let's call it oppurtunity to score comes along, i have no red light/buzzer/warningsign/insert comedic flashing sign come up in my thoughts.

The worst thing i have realised, it has been the only thing to have made me feel good/happy/at peace with myself in the last 6 months or so.

I used to have the most fantastic, amazing wife, who when i met her, got me on a reasonably straight and only very occasionally curvy path, for 12 years she was the wise words of wisdom, the so called warning sign, the big red NO! until i ruined that in the last year.

I don't think i can do the right path on my own, i never have been able to before, and now i am scared of the realisation.

I am not strong, i only really lasted so long clean, because until the last couple of months, I isolated myself from nearly everyone in my old life. I can't Isololate myself for ever, and i am scared by that

Re: I have Failed

Kato please don't be sorry. We are all here because we have a story to tell. Battles to fight and demons in our closets.
We maybe here for different reasons but everyday we get up and fight for another day. Even when we don't want to please be kind to yourself.
Your battle gives others the strength to go on.

Re: I have Failed

@kato you certainly can't isolate yourself from life as that certainly impacts our mental health.
However, you might want to consider how to interact with other folks who maybe don't use AOD the way some of your old friends do..
And yep.. Nagging person that I am but a certain truth is "you alone can do it, but you can't do it alone"
So it is tough and it is hard but change has to be with you as it is up to you.. You are getting help along the way..us and your psych and you AOD services..
The easy path for your brain is to go to using..it has been wired to do that for quite some time..
But our brains are marvellous things and you can rewire it, truly you can..
And yes there are still times when I think ooh god I would love a cigarette right now..and there is nothing stopping me from going and buying a pack anytime I want..but I don't..
Why don't I? Because the many times I have tried and resumed oking I can't go through all that process again..easier to stay stopped..but I have had a sneaky puff on a friend:s cigarette..to see if I still liked them..Der..took me 1month to stop wanting to smoke again..from one drag..
You can work on a comedic stop sign..and you are not doing this alone...
Have a chat to your AOD worker..I am wondering what ideas they might have?

Hugs to you @kato. Stumbling is a very human activity..
