Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

That's ok - I can have patience (says the person who just got their cranky pants on over a 20 minute wait at the bank 😆) @Snowie.

Would love to see your photo @Faith-and-Hope. Are you able to tag me where the instructions are. I tried looking for it but couldn't find it. If it's too hard don't worry it's ok.

Re: Craft Corner

Oh, @CheerBear you are such a delight! Your post made me laugh when the email came in, but I have nto been able to get back to the forum 'till now.

So glad you got some crafting in, happy you're getting your paperwork done (not so much that you have to do it though), and looking forward to seeing more of Sophie's Universe as it progresses.

@outlander thank you for your kind words, you're such a kind sweet person to have around. I hope the goodness comes back to you in some way.

@Snowie Spotlight trip! Excitement! Crossstitch already in hand. Lovely. There are some delightful crossstitch kits. Perhaps there's a link to the image somewhere you might be able to show us if you'd like to, of course. Love hearing about crafty adventures and exploits!

@Faith-and-Hope would love to see the Finger KNitted Scarf you made too if you'd like to share.

@BlueBay Lovely to see you. I hope you don't mind me answering - Finger Knitted Scarf tutorial is here - Finger Knitted Scarf video tutorial - the ends can be decorated with pom poms, tassells or beads too, or joined to make one big loop. Tip for putting loops over fingers if your hands are tired or sore, use something to lift the loop, crochet hook, fork tine, pencil, etc.

Re: Craft Corner

Patience is relevant to the task @CheerBear!

I just measured The Red Thing for you CheeerBear it's 67cm across the shoulder part where you can see the short rows forming some foundation for holding the bulk of hte weight on either side of the centre back top - it's where the armholes will go, 95cm across the diameter both top to bottom and side to side across the centre. It's meant to be drapey, not fitting, and will wrap around to the front as the design and pattern develops.

And yes, oh, yes indeedy, it takes a whole lot of individual, immediately identifiable as 'this is centre back' stitch markers and other paired coloured stitch markers for each side, and a few notes to remember what's what with the row counts and stitch counts and such.

I made stitch markers so I would be able to identify different parts of things more easily , it generally works, except when I forget to notice them.

Often much undoing, like last night, went past the armhole. I did get in a few rows last night, so I am working on it again, which is good. you have inspired me to pick it up to go with your current blankie project!

Re: Craft Corner

@OhanaSystem - sorry I meant to tag you in the earlier post but got distracted and posted too soon - someone mentioned you might like to see the Finger Knitted Scarf video. Finger Knitted Scarf video which I will post again for your convenience.

Please feel welcome to come on over if you'd like to for the crochet stuff you mentioned, or just to chat and look at some of the inspiring works people are talking about doing, and have done, or are doing. We'd love to have you no matter what crafty goodness you're wanting to work on.

I find craft can help when all else fails to lift my spirits.

Re: Craft Corner

You're most welcome @BlueBay - another tip - have a big safety pin, or something similar handy to put the loops onto in case you decide you want a break from it for a while. It's easy enough to get put on and get off if you remember which way the v-shapes go to front or back (mine go to back) for when you come to put them back on your fingers.

Just thought I'd add those bits, cos sometimes you just don't want to do the whole lot in one go.
I actually really like the engrossing relaxation of this movement and the fact that there's something progressing. I can watch tv and do it now too, if the tv program doesn't need to be watched every second.

Feel welcome to share what you make if you'd like to @BlueBay, love seeing what everyone does with their individual crafting ideas - so much inspiration!

OOH, lovely colour @Faith-and-Hope very nice indeed.

Isn't it lovely how it grows and rolls and feels! It's one of my new favourite things to do. I give lots of mental thanks to @Bunniekins for sharing it every time I look at mine hanging in the wardrobe (or on the back of the chair where the white one currently is.)
