Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

@Former-Member Hi SunShower 🙂 you certainly are a woman of many talents! Looking forward to seeing all the pictures once the triangle of doom has disappeared. What kind of meals do you use the pickled ginger for? (says she who cannot boil and egg).

She is, isn’t she @Bunniekins ...... ?

Yes, does pickled Japanese ginger get used for dishes other than Japanese cuisine ?

Re: Craft Corner

Thank you both so much for your kind words @Bunniekins @Faith-and-Hope. I think I learned to do 'stuff' out of necessity (no money) and a love of being able to do for myself developed out of that. I do have to make most of my own food stuffs from scratch due to food additives ruling out a once enjoyed item. Which sucks ALOT.

I admit I use the Pickled Ginger on almost anything I think it might add to. I had a meat pie at lunch today and piled the just pickled ginger on top of that. It's really nice with egg on toast, added to a sandwich with salad and/or meat. Goes nicely with some cheeses too, and with some seafood. I eat it from the jar at times.

Maybe my tastes are a bit strange, it adds a nice extra zing to almost any meat and/or rice dish too. Most people would not eat as much of it as I do, it's mostly used as a condiment, but it's sometimes nearly a side dish for me.

It's traditionally used with Japanese style dishes, the most usual I suppose would be Sushi. For me, it's a must when I make Sushi no matter what sort it is. I often have a variety of pickled items for sushi but try to always have the ginger.

It will turn pinker than it is in a few days as it's the new season ginger which is what does that, purchased premade Gari has pink additive to make it seem like it's the new season crop when it's not.

I make many different types of pickles with that same vinegar recipe. Celery and cucumber are really lovely picked with it too (as long as you peel the strings from the celery). Apple, onion, carrot can all be pickled either alone or together. Apple needs to be used within a day to be best.

Thank you for the distraction, you ladies are awesome!

Re: Craft Corner

@Shaz51 @outlander @Faith-and-Hope @Bunniekins thank you all for your kind words.

You are wonderful, you've made me feel like I've been a bit useful ... thank you. I can't say I actually feel better, just feel like I haven't been useless, mostly.

I can share the recipes if you're ever interested in trying something pickled for yourself too. I do simple, even have some that don't need heating for use within 15mins of making.

I hope you're all had lovely days and tonight is going nicely. Will be taking some watch tv time for myself for now.

Wonderful night to you all.
