Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

@Former-Member those vests are neat! i can't believe you can make them!

thank you for the information about the feathers!! I didn't mean find in that sense - i use store bought ones, but it's something i'll bear in mind because sometimes i do pick up pretty feathers i discover.

@outlander thta's beautiful, especially for your very first one! well done indeed! i love the ribbons. i did find the centre part really hard, especially when i was first learning. these days my biggest trouble comes with not tying myself in knots while i work!!

Re: Craft Corner

Seriously wow @OhanaSystem! So incredibly beautiful! And yours also @outlander! I love, love, love the colours you both used!

@WideWhale320 it has definitely been quite busy in this corner today. Interested in hearing how you get on with your finger knitting if you share! I think it's a really cool idea!

I can relate to the respond to crochet talk @Former-Member! I can be very ice-queen but have connected with a couple of school mums over it which has helped melt the icy-on-the-outside shell a bit. I can definitely see how people would want you to come around and help out with customers - I so much enjoy that you're sharing your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm here ☺

Re: Craft Corner

Of course @outlander I love crocheters, and crafters who use yarn ... so I must look out for their best interests, you know, to keep the craft alive and stuff. you made me laugh for the first time in 3 days. Thank you!

don't know why they aren't clearing, their should be no problems with them, I even remove details and I have no images waiting to be moderated. sigh.

@WideWhale320 might I suggest you get something a bit chunky or it doesnt' look as nice. Mine is 2 strands of Lion Brand Tweed Stripes (Bulky/ 5/ use 6mm needles) together to make it thicker. So pretty thick to get that lovely bulk. and I did my best to keep my fingers closer together to keep tension better. It was interesting and fun too. Going to make another with 2 strnds I think.

I'd love to hear how you go, I had a bit of bother starting, but once I got it, it was fine. HINT - try not to let the start get too loose. I undid about 4 or 5 times to get the tension better once i realised what it was going to look like. I think it's an amzing thing to do and am trying to figure ways to join more on.

@OhanaSystem thank you for being good about my 'finding feathers' mistake - as soon as I saw the image I realised they were the same typeish of purchased feathers I used to use and thought , there you go again, SunShower, got the meaning wrong.

I used to be about the same size as the young woman in the bottom left of that image with the vests - used to make them and wear them and look good too. those days are passed now though. My clothes have often gained me an income by making for others the different things I wore/ wear. Interesting - and thank you for reminding me of that, I lose sight of the nice little things about myself sometimes.

@CheerBear i['m so glad you're enjoying it, I can be both ice-queen and seen as a bit pushy (can't think why ) but often it's just that I'm tired of gettign hurt and I hate misinformation, and I like to share things I'm passionate about. so glad you're enjoying your crochet journey, because I am too. (enjoying mine, yours and @Phoenix_Risings too. More people learn crochet, yes?)

Re: Craft Corner

Oh,nice that you got that kit @outlander but short on instructions makes it hard, doesn't it. You did well, very well.

hard nudge, moi? Just encouragement, and letting you know we will help you with anything you have questions about, and, as you can see from how I write, I am likely to provide information you didnt ask about too.

I'd encourage anyone who thinks they might enjoy something made from crochet, or knitting, to try, because there are so many gains from such a skill. I find it amazingly relaxing and one of my major stress management tools. Which is why i now make clothing, big, and useful.

There is charity work too if you want to make small things and can afford to give away the yarn and items.

So much to be gained from either and both skills.

packing up the soapbox now.
