Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

I do remember seeing that video but havent watched it.
Is there a difference in the materials between the 2 or the same wool?

Re: Craft Corner

Hello @outlander @OhanaSystem thank you for your lovely words. It's taken some sheer bloodymindedness to 'get' the process of tatting when I was learning, I just wanted to know how really badly, so persevered I guess. and now I do love it, the look, the doing of it, and the delicacy of now making things for just me. I always made pretty and delicate for others, only serviceable for me, now I get pretty things too.

The 9metre scarf I did yesterday as a distraction, took me probably about 3 or 4 hours sitting watching mindless tv. I took a couple of breaks but mostly done in one go. Stress means I go FAST, and this was a good thing to do because of it's simplicity and that meant I couldn't really make any mistakes.

@Bunniekins I'm not really very good with making tassels, I hid alot of the 'issues' with those two, so I'm geting better at them. lol. I thought they'd look more elegant than pompoms and I'm glad I did that. I could have just tied a knot, but didnt' wnt the bulk. I like fringe too. I do really like the long tassels though. I can't wait to find an occasion to waear it.

@Catcakes always makes me tht bit brighter to know I've given someone else even the tiniest uplift - thank you for mentioning it. - CB's socks are sooooo soooo cute. I hope your mum is improving and you're doing okay too.( or as okay as can be, which I know about too)

@Shaz51 image - got it - oh, wow that will be very interesting doing that. I love the Ravensburger puzzles, such detail, and so many images to choose frm too. Soo nice to be distracted by putting together those smiling puppies too.

@CheerBear I thought you might be in for more given how cute those were! Start the giftmas making now maybe?????

Re: Craft Corner

I'm pretty sure you can use most of the same yarns and wool (and all kinds of things - I was crocheting with plastic bags for something) etc for knitting and crochet @outlander. Though some people crochet with cotton thread which is so thin I'm not sure you could knit with it (could be wrong though) and I think you can get much bigger knitting needles than crochet hooks for extra chunky projects (though again, I could be wrong). I know one well and the other not at all well sorry!

Re: Craft Corner

Hi all,

Wow the craft corner is very lively this afternoon.

@Shaz51 @Former-Member I super love doing jigsaw puzzles - I have about a bazillion of them. I also have this to do them on: https://www.ebay.com.au/i/122855047485?chn=ps&dispItem=1 Mine is an older style (I inherited it from my mum) and it is awesome. I assume the newer ones are just as good if not better.

@Catcakes @OhanaSystem @CheerBear @Former-Member(and everyone else), do you want to know a secret? I finished my latest crochet project and I am BUSTING to show you, but for some reason which I can't entirely articulate, I want to wait until the world returns to normal tomorrow. I'm seeing TTT tomorrow morning and I will definitely be taking my creation to show off to her. I can't wait!!!

Re: Craft Corner

I wish I could share this one @Catcakes, but it's not mine to share as it's the one that was started by someone else and then they passed away, so I'm just finishing it off. I also don't know the person who it is going to, but I know it has lots of meaning for her and is probably quite personal. I am looking forward to seeing yours again, if/when you share!

They were plastic shopping bags, recycled into a ball of yarn and made into mats @outlander. You can do anything with a hook 😁

I am SO looking forward to seeing this one @Phoenix_Rising! Like busting excited! I can practice patience and can wait a little longer though.

Giftmas - Love that word too @Former-Member! I have chunky unicorn yarn leftover that will probably make one pair while I wait for my oh-so-drool-worthy order to arrive!

I've had heaps of fun here this afternoon but I better head off to do dinner.

Thanks for the smiles all ☺
