Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

@CheerBear Thank you for your very welcome kindnesses. I've survived but okay is still quite out of reach. Can't turn off 'like' notifications, so that's still happening - still getting tagged in e-related posts (sigh). It has made me rethink my use of the 'like' button for anything at all.

I have made a 9 metre long finger knitted scarf from @Bunniekins's video from 2 balls of left over rainbow yarn. I put long tassels on each end to finish it.

Finished the first round of tatting on the hankie and begun, but not yet attached as it's really hard to get the shaping right, the next round of 'clover leaves' still in white.

Your Sophie's colour choice sound wonderful. I don't need or want another blanket, but I have been looking at the design and thinking how I could join you with it, and at a particular point, shift the shaping and make it into a mandala vest. I think it could work, but I'd need to do some more measuring instead of just eyeballing it.

Also, trying to use up stash, not buying more yarn .....

I have this pattern that I bought ages ago and have done nothing with it! I thought I could maybe work along with you on this one and make it into a mandala vest. I got it for the stitch changes more than anything else.

I have to check my stash and see what I might be able to utilize for a CAL with you. I know I have quite a bit of an acrylic I got for a weaving project that it did not work for, sadly, so it might be good for this, it's in a range of pinks. OOH - and I have the plain ruby, and the gold, and 2 other colours in Vanna's Glamour that would bring a large item down in size. I have some thinking to do.

Thank you for your kindness @CheerBear can't wait to hear your yarn has arrived! I may be as excited as you!

Welcome to the Craft Corner (and the forum) @WideWhale320 - your name made me immediately think of the different 'Wales' of Corduroy fabrics ... wiki/Corduroy in case anyone wanted to know more. (as a follow up to Greenpea's suggestion, here's an image)

The ongoing progress saga of the Tatted Edged Handkerchiefs and a finished Finger Knitted Scarf thanks to Greenpea's video - thank you Pea, you really helped me with that.

Here is the 9metre Finger Knitted Scarf with tasseled ends, done with 2 strands of 2 balls of left over rainbow coloured yarn. They look like intestines when they roll and roil all over the place! You wouldn't think it is flat knitting, would you? Thank you for sharing that video @Bunniekins

Here is the hankie so far, the finer edging is done and I think the clover leaf will be the next layer of the edging, but I'll need to sew it on as it's really too hard to get the rings with it tatted on - I may yet change it out ... again. It is all white even though it looks to be pink, I think it's from the background reflections.

@Former-Member Hi SunShower I cannot wait for the photos to come up particularly the '9 metre intensines with the tassels" . So happy that you enjoyed what I posted up. Interestingly my mum wants me to finger knit her one she is currently thinking about what colour yarn she will pick 🙂

I love the way you are being so particular with yoru tatting on your handkerchief. I is looking so pretty and It will look so beautiful once it is finshed I cannot wait to see the finished product. :)xx

Re: Craft Corner

Hi @Former-Member ☺ I am sorry to hear you're having some tricky times but I'm glad to hear you're surviving. I have been thinking of you wondering how you're getting on. I imagine it's been a pretty trying weekend for you.

Wow with the 9 metre finger knitting! In rainbow with tassels - sounds totally amazing and I can't wait to see it! Looking forward to seeing your hankie too. Love the intricate work you do. And oh.my.gosh with that pattern you found! It's incredible. I love the stitches in it and I really enjoy the challenge and fun of changing things up with different stitches. It's stunning!
I'm a bit excited to hear that you're thinking on some kind of modified Sophie version. I think it's so clever to be able to change a pattern into a completely different finished product. I can't do yet that but really hope to one day. I also don't need or really even want another blanket but I do need a big something to work on so this will do. I'm going to use a 2 or 2.5mm hook I think so it should be smallish and it might work well as a throw over my beanbag one.
Remember a while ago I was making tweedy goodness sock/slippers for a pair who had been bitten by a lovebug? I was finally able to give them to the pair this weekend. They look really funny walking around with their matching socks and they love them ☺ I think they turned out pretty well, especially for what was a bit of a joking one. This weekend I have also almost finished up the baby blanket I was asked to work on. It was a big bag of granny squares with about a squillion ends to stitch in and they're now joined, there's a border and most of the ends are sewn. For all I've crocheted, I've never completed a granny square project as I was scared of trying to make it all fit. This was a huge challenge as they were different sizes, but it meant a lot and I'm nearly there (and one step closer to wrapping up some unfinished projects ready for Sophie).
Thank you for listening to and sharing your crafty tales SunShower (and all who do). I find getting creative to be so therapeutic and I love the feel goods I get sharing here and appreciating other's craft too. I hope ok-ish/ok-enough happens soon for you ❤

Re: Craft Corner

Waving hi to @Shaz51 - and yay for finishing the border of your puzzle!) and @outlander (and thanks for the hello tags to you both) and hi to @Bunniekins and all ☺

A big welcome to @WideWhale320 also. Card making would be very fun! I can't knit and can't get my head around how to hold two needles (way too uncoordinated for that haha!).

Hope your Monday has been a decent enough one ☺

Re: Craft Corner

Jigsaws are very cool @Shaz51 I have a few of them too, the table space is taken up with some other things just now, so will be a little while before I can get back to them. I do the edges first too.
