Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

Hi @Former-Member, @Bunniekins 👋

im ok. I think green pea brings lots of sun too. I agree with your comment about more sun than showers. 😊😜sorry I’m a bit lost for words just now. I’m tired and kind of frustrated but will get over it.

Re: Craft Corner

Do you craft @Teej? Can I entice you over here too with crafty goodness? *wink wink, nudge nudge* we can just talk about craft, that's okay too.

You are both lovely, kind and so considerate.

Re: Craft Corner

Hey @Former-Member @CheerBear @Former-Member @Former-Member and anyone else following my crochet adventure, I just finished row seven of Narwhal take-two and I still have the correct number of stitches in my row!!! Yay for me.

@Former-Member The video on how to crochet in the round was super helpful. That's what I followed to do my first circular creation. Now I'm Narwhalling.

Re: Craft Corner

Big yay for you @Phoenix_Rising! You're doing it!

Very much looking forward to seeing a renarwhaled narwhal ☺ (and looking forward to catching up on crafty news from this corner when I'm less head is hurting).

Re: Craft Corner

@CheerBear now I've done TWELVE rows and STILL have the correct number of stitches in my row!!! I am about 10 minutes into the 30 minute video. But now I am sleepy so Mr Narwal is going to have to sit here semi-complete.

I super hope you are less head-hurting soon. I will wander over there --> now.

Re: Craft Corner

That is excellent indeed @Phoenix_Rising I knew you could do it if you followed those instructions to the letter! @CheerBear found a brilliant teaching video for you to follow.

Awesome, simply awesome progression!! Can't wait to see the Narwhal when it's done, and your crochet in the round as you work on it too.

@CheerBear I'm sending you a metric *&^*tonne of ((((((((CheerBear)))))))))) craft hugs to let you know you are being thought of.

@Bunniekins thinking of your scarf (and you of course ) wondering how all of your knitting ideas are developing. I fell down a rabbit or should it be 'chicken' hole looking up the jumpers for chickens! and these penguins from Phillip Island.

Trusting the day will have something pleasant for each of us.

Re: Craft Corner

Awww @Former-Member (definitely more sun that shower I agree!) Thank you for your metric *&^*tonne of craft hugs that made me giggle, smile and get the warm fuzzies. I really appreciate it and sending you lots of them in return ❤😊

I have had to put myself on a bit of a crafting time out ban until I can play nicely again. Too fireballish for delicate stuff right now. But it will pass as it does that. I'm enjoying sitting on one of those rocking chairs with a cup of tea and listening to crafty chatter though.

Those chooks! And penguins! Gorgeous ❤

I came across this website here (not sure if it's been posted but just in case it hasn't). It's an Australian site all about crafting for charity. You can search by craft, location, type of organisation - amazing! Could be great for using up yarn stashes also. And there are plenty of beginner projects too.

☺

Re: Craft Corner

Aren't those fowl vests amazing @CheerBear - who would have thought, although I have made some warmers for some pet mice in the past - a bit like amigurumi I suppose. Wasn't the most successful thing I've ever done.

I followed that link - thanks for the fix too - interesting things to discover - have book marked the pattern page and a few other bits that I'll check out a bit later when I can.

Do you have a small project with big yarn that is just mindless you can do maybe? I get what you mean about the fireballish. Nods - yeps I do.

Y'know I keep saying I do dishcloths and wash cloths, (I don't use wash up sponges anymore) well, that's cos sometimes I just need to do somethign with my hands but can't do a fine piece or follow an intricate pattern. The stitch counting as I do each row of tunisian helps calm my mind and I have something to occupy my hands so the antsy is taken care of.

Simple Pattern for DishCloth/ WashCloth
Cotton yarn is best (some shrink and pull the work tight).
Make gauge loose enough for a nice drape in the hand, not overly tight.
Choose to single or double crochet in each chain or alternate for a different appearance.
Chain 50, double crochet in each chain to end, turn.
Repeat for 50 rows or until square.
Single crochet in each stitch around edge, finish. Sew in ends.
Can put fancy edging on if desired.

Granny squares can work too, but I don't like the gaps. Recently made one in single crochet in skinny yarn - I think I was punishing myself for something. I turned and worked in the opposite direction at the end of each row - it does look nice.

Here's some Apple Cake with a cuppa. Ah, yes, soothing tea ... nothing like it, especially when you can drink it rocking quietly in a favourite spot.
